BurgerTime

Go To

  • First Installment Wins: The original BurgerTime is the most fondly remembered and most popular installment in the series by far.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Just what does a fried egg have to do with hamburgers? BurgerTime was designed in Japan, and over in the Land of the Rising Sun, many fast food joints offer a fried egg as a topping for your hamburger.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The game was and still is much better-known in the U.S. than in its native Japan.
  • Memetic Mutation: The BurgerTime television commercial featured giant food chasing Peter Pepper around a fast food kitchen. A young couple at the drive-thru window peeks in only to have the window abruptly shut by a giant hot dog.
Mr. Hot Dog: We are closed, now!
    • According to anecdotes by former Intellivision employees, this line circulated as an inside joke around the office in 1983 when they heard that they were being laid off and Mattel was discontinuing the console.
  • Nintendo Hard: The original duo of arcade games accelerated in difficulty pretty quickly, with Ice Cream Factory requiring immense skill, mastery of its confusing control scheme, and reflexes just to pass the first level.
  • That One Level:
    • The fourth level has four humongous burgers with eight parts each, for a total of 32 — the most of any level. The ladders are short and staggered, forcing you to take a stair-step approach when you need to move between floors. You'd better get good at dropping enemies and handling the stiff controls, or this level will eat you up.
    • The fifth level is even worse unless you have lots of pepper to spare. This level has only two burgers (each with eight parts), but there is a severe lack of ladders, making it very easy to become trapped. The only other way to get the enemies off your tail besides squishing them or using pepper is to lure them to the bottom right where you spawn, but if you do this incorrectly you could potentially trap yourself.
    • The sixth and final level is by far the hardest. This level is designed with the sole purpose of trapping you. With burger parts located in dead ends, and a confusing layout that makes it very easy to end up in a place where you'll get sandwiched between enemies unless you're quite lucky, it's not uncommon to burn a lot of your lives here.
