- Ho Yay: The Panther and the Sea Otter is just a little shy of a Queer Romance. The protagonists are two men who moved from far away to work on a town, and end the chapter holding hands to assuage their newfound loneliness.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Considering the Audience-Alienating Ending Beastars had, some fans relied on the 2021 serialization of Beast Complex to fill the gaps left by the end of its sister series. There was a lot of potential for the story to address the fates of characters who did not get satisfying endings in the manga, like Riz, Pina, Yafya, Louis, Bill, Juno, and Gosha, but the manga did not explore the setting post-Beastars nor those characters. The chapters that do feature major Beastars characters all focus on Legosi with Haru and Zaguan, and at best solidifies a little more his relationship with Haru (which ended with a hint of "maybe it will work, maybe not"), by showing they were still together 3 years after the events of their manga (albeit implying by the fact they hadn't had sex up until then that their relationship is moving slowly).
