Tiger Trouble

Go To

“Tiger Trouble” is a 1945 Classic Disney Short directed by Jack Kinney, starring Goofy.

Goofy is a Great White Hunter in the jungle, looking for tigers. But once he finds one, it becomes a question of who's the hunter and who's the prey.

Tropes:

  • Affably Evil: The tiger may look like a mankiller, but he mainly acts like a dopey pussycat.
  • Agony of the Feet: To escape the tiger’s clutches, Goofy sticks a match under his foot and lights it. When the fire hits the tiger’s foot, the tiger jumps up holding his foot and screaming in pain.
  • Butt Sticker: Played with. When Dolores the elephant lands on the tiger, it's only his stripes that stick to Dolores' butt.
  • By the Lights of Their Eyes: The tiger first appears with his eyes peering from his cave. As a gag, the eyes are at first far apart, then hop closer into their final position.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The model sheet for the tiger, minus his stripes, was used as the inspiration for Louie the Mountain Lion.
  • Gone Behind the Bend: During the chase, the tiger chases Goofy around a rock — later revealed to be Dolores. When wearing out from running, Goofy rests himself on the rock to catch his breath while the tiger continues running around it. Then the tiger stops to catch his breath before as well noticing Goofy right next to him.
  • Huge Rider, Tiny Mount: At the end, Dolores and Goofy end up trading places, Dolores sitting atop the houder while Goofy, only visible as legs sticking out from underneath, carries her away.
  • "Just So" Story: "And that is how the tiger lost his stripes."
  • Made of Iron:
    • The explosion of the gun doesn’t kill Goofy nor the tiger.
    • The tiger doesn’t get crushed to death when Dolores lands on him.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Goofy is sweating when the narrator mentions that he is about to hunt down a man-eating tiger.
    • Goofy and Dolores are terrified when they hear the tiger roaring.
    • When they finally encounter the tiger, Goofy and Dolores are scared out their wits.
  • Recycled Animation: While being chased by the tiger, Goofy claws a huge hole in the bamboo wall the same way he claws a huge hole in the wall in “Lonesome Ghosts.”
  • Removable Animal Markings: When Dolores lands on the tiger, he removes his stripes which are now printed on her back side.
“And that is how the tiger lost his stripes.”
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Dolores flees the scene when she and Goofy first encounter the tiger.
  • Tentacle Rope: While the tiger has him pinned to the ground, Goofy ties his tail around a bamboo tree to prevent the tiger from chasing him once he escapes.
  • Tickle Torture: Goofy goes through this briefly when the tiger licks his foot.
  • Truth in Television: Rather than eating Goofy immediately when subduing him, the tiger licks his bare foot. Licking the skin of prey before eating them is a habit for big cats like tigers.
  • Wallpaper Camouflage: To show how his stripes allow him to blend into the environment, the tiger walks in front of a thicket of bamboo, with only his stripes and eyes visible.
