Jessica's Big Little World (Western Animation)

Jessica's Big Little World is an animated series that premiered on Cartoon Network's preschool block Cartoonito on September 20, 2023.

It is a spinoff of Craig of the Creek following Craig's younger sister Jessica as she navigates her way through a world where everything seems much bigger than she is. Inspired by the grown-ups around her, she persists in conquering monumental children's tasks.

The series ended on May 31, 2024 after only one season of twenty episodes, having been Cut Short from its planned 40-episode season order.

Tropes:

  • Animesque: It's a little more downplayed compared to the main series, but there are a few instances with anime elements thrown in.
  • Babysitting Episode: A pet sitting variation occurs with "Spike The Hedgehog", where Jessica offers to watch Stanleigh's hedgehog Spike while he's visiting family.
  • Black Bead Eyes: Small Uncle has black beads for eyes.
  • The Cameo: Kelsey and J.P. make appearances in "Jessica's Restaurant" and "Big Grow".
  • Cheerful Child: Jessica is often quite enthusiastic when she sets her mind on something.
  • Companion Cube: Jessica's plush toy is Small Uncle, who often takes on an anthropomorphic form in her Imagine Spots.
  • Cool Big Bro: Both Craig and Bernard act pretty friendly around Jessica.
  • Cool Shades: Big Jessica wears sunglasses.
  • Does Not Like Spam: "Little Twin" has Jessica's new friend Myra openly say how much she doesn't like jelly in her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which shocks her.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Myra makes a brief appearance in the first minutes of "Small Uncle's Big Bath".
  • Five-Token Band: Jessica and Poppy are black, Stanleigh and Nick are Asian, and Myra is Latina.
  • Imaginary Friend: Jessica has two of them, an anthropomorphic version of Small Uncle and an adult version of herself who appears inside her mirror called Big Jessica.
  • Jaw Drop: "Little Twin" has Jessica's jaw drop when Myra says how she doesn't like some of the same things that she does.
  • Lighter and Softer: This series is understandably more lighthearted than its parent series, with the only form of conflict to be found being the trials Jessica faces.
  • Mr. Imagination: Jessica's wild imagination often leads to her having all sorts of misadventures throughout her daily life.
  • Out of Focus: Craig has more of a supporting role here, making relatively occasional appearances.
  • Picnic Episode: "Jessica's Picnic" follows this to a tee. Jessica and Nicole plan to go on a picnic in the park, but things keep going wrong, whether it's car troubles or a rainstorm.
  • Picture Day: "Family Photo" is about Jessica trying to find her own special outfit for the family photo that she really likes.
  • Quarter Hour Short: Much like its parent series, episodes are shown in single, 12 minute segments.
  • Restaurant-Owning Episode: "Jessica's Restaurant" is about Jessica and her friend Stanleigh starting a restaurant in her house.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Felix is the shy Sensitive Guy to Stanleigh's energetic Manly Man.
  • Sick Episode: The series finale, "Sick", is about Jessica getting sick on the day of Felix's birthday.
  • Slumber Party: "Sleepover" has Jessica sleep with her grandparents overnight, but she can't sleep without Small Uncle.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Due to the younger demographic, Bernard is considerably kinder towards Jessica than he is to Craig in the original series.
