Get Rolling with Otis (Western Animation)

Get Rolling with Otis is an animated Apple TV+ Preschool Show based on the Otis the Tractor books by Loren Long that came out on October 8, 2021. The show centers on a young tractor named Otis. He may be small, but he has a big heart. He'll help anyone in need on Long Hill Dairy Farm.

Tropes Associated With The Show:

  • Afraid of Doctors: Vehicle variant; “Tune-Up Trouble” revolves around Kevin the pickup truck being afraid of mechanics, which causes problems when it’s time for him to get his first tune-up.
  • Alliterative Title: A few episodes have one, namely “Puff Puff Putteday Pup”, “Sal Says”, “Piggie Problems”, and “Camp Chirp”.
  • Big Storm Episode: “A Storm on the Farm”, where Otis has to rush around to keep the farm animals safe during a storm.
  • Character Action Title: Three episodes have their title done like this- “Otis Brings the Sheep Back”, “Otis Gets a Flat”, and “Otis Needs a Rest”.
  • Character Name and the Noun Phrase: Three episodes have this sort of title- “Polly and the Skunk”, “Otis and the Kittens”, and “Holly and the Hat”.
  • Christmas Episode: "A Winter Cow's Tale" is about Daisy wanting to decorate the farm for Christmas before Rosalie's baby arrives.
  • Creative Closing Credits: The end credits play over a distant shot of the farm, which slowly transitions from day to sunset to night.
  • Disembodied Eyebrows: Vehicle characters have hovering eyebrows that appear to be made of whatever material immediately surrounds their eyes.
  • Dreaming of a White Christmas: The Christmas Episode is one of the two episodes in the series to feature snow.
  • Ending Theme: The show’s credits are accompanied by an instrumental rendition of the theme song.
  • Epunymous Title: “Upsy Daisy”, on “oopsy daisy” and the cow named Daisy (who is revealed to have a fear of heights).
  • Expository Theme Tune:
Together on the farm, we play and we work hard
With help from Otis the Tractor (Yeah!)
When he feels his heart glowing,
    Otis gets going
So let’s get rolling with Otis!
  • Extra-Long Episode: Most episodes are Two Shorts, but “A Winter’s Cow Tale” is a full 20-minute story.
  • Heat Wave: The focus of “The Hot Hot Day”, as you might be able to guess from the title.
  • Heart Symbol: Otis has a heart-shaped piece of metal mixed in with his machinery; it flashes red twice whenever he feels driven to help one of his farm friends, and then flashes red twice again at the end of the episode when the problem is solved.
  • Meaningful Name: Rusty is a tractor who’s old and, well, rusty.
  • Nice Guy: Otis is a very friendly character who will do what he can to help others
  • Picture Day: "A Picture With Louie" is about Otis trying to get a good group picture of everyone.
  • Rhyming Title: The episode “Rusty’s Chance to Dance” has one.
  • Sick Episode: Happens to Daisy the cow in “Daisy’s Sick Day”.
  • Talking Animal: Aside from Otis, most of the show’s cast is composed of talking farm animals, from Daisy the young cow to Celeste the pig to Sal the rooster.
  • Telescoping Robot: Otis has a surprising amount of attachments that all fold into the same tiny back compartment when not in use; the most commonly-seen one is a mechanical arm, but he’s got other things like forklift forks too.
  • Thanksgiving Episode: “The Thankful Parade", although for ease of broadcasting in countries that aren’t America Otis and his friends don’t actually celebrate Thanksgiving, but a Fictional Holiday that’s suspiciously similar to Thanksgiving.
  • That Makes Me Feel Angry: It’s built into the show’s gimmick; whenever someone says what emotion they feel, Otis’s Heart Symbol flashes. As per the formula, this will be once for a negative emotion near the beginning of the episode, once for a negative emotion (often the same negative emotion) near the middle of the episode, and once for a positive emotion near the end of the episode.
  • Title Theme Tune: Otis! Let’s get rolling with Otis!
  • Two Shorts: The majority of episodes are made up of 2 11 minute segments.
  • Wintertime Episode: “The Super Snowy Sleigh Ride”, as you might be able to guess from the title. Otis is the one who ends up pulling the sleigh.
