Sploder

Go To

Sploder was an online game creator. It originally focused on shooters, but then expanded its variety in games, focusing on physics puzzle games, platformer games, arcade-style games, and eventually multiplayer games.

It was shutdown on the 27th of April 2024 (Proof)

Tropes:

  • Absurdly High Level Cap: The level cap for a Sploder user is 250, and higher levels allow them to create more complex games.
  • Artifact Title: "Sploder" used to focus on shooters, but as mentioned above, it expanded its variety.
  • Automatic New Game: Since Sploder doesn't have a full saving system yet, this applies to all games.
  • Awesome, but Temporary: Some of the power-ups available in games utilize this feature, such as the time limit of the "atomic " power-up.
  • Call a Hit Point a "Smeerp": In the Platformed creator some enemies are named rather peculiarly, such as a golem-like heavyweight called George, and a dragon-like creature called a Snarley.
  • Capture the Flag: A game mode in the shooter.
  • Digital Avatar: All members have a customizable cube-like avatar that can be created from an array of different options.
  • Dual-World Gameplay: In the Physics Puzzle Game De Vacuo puzzles are often solved utilizing this feature.
  • Genre Savvy: In the popular format "Don't trust the ..." games the player must be this to win.
  • Head Swap: Once player-made graphics could be used in the Platformed creator, the player character could be changed with the only real difference being the appearance of the head.
  • Hyperactive Sprite: Commonplace in more poorly made Physics Puzzle Games.
  • Internet Jerk: Normally defied, since this is a kid-friendly website.
    • Except for some instances where you can destroy a random character For the Evulz.
  • Level Editor: All the creators with the exception of the Physics Puzzle creator function similarly to this.
  • The Points Mean Nothing: Averted. Levels actually help you do more stuff on Sploder.
  • Purely Aesthetic Gender: The female option for the player character in the Platformer creator makes no actual difference to the character in question, nor do any other aesthetic options.
  • RPG Elements: The arcade-style games use in-game money to upgrade stats.
    • With Sploder users, levels don't do much except allow you to create more complex and realistic games.
  • Retraux: Some of the music is in chiptune, but some tunes avert this because they aren't.
  • Scunthorpe Problem: The auto-censor replaces swear words with "splode". It also censors relatively mild things like "gay", "jerk" and "loser"- even though a common game mechanic in the Platformer game type is called a "closer" and many people refer to it as a "relsoc" to stop it from coming out as "csplode".
  • Shout-Out: The SploderHeads multiplayer games may be a shout-out in general to Call of Duty and Angry Birds.
  • Top-Down View: The shooter and algorithm games have this viewpoint.
  • Video Game Objectives: Applicable to all the creators, the objective options are all what you'd expect from an online game.
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: The Power Gluv.
