Dogpool (Webcomic)
Dogpool and Deadpool are both in this picture.

Dogpool (later reprinted as Petpool: Pool Party) is a weekly Infinity Comics webcomic from Marvel Comics. It's written by MacKenzie Cadenhead, with art by Enid Balam and cover art by Fer Sifuentes-Sujo.

The titular Dogpool is an Animal Superhero version of Deadpool and is a relatively normal-looking dog in a Deadpool costume. He was originally introduced in Deadpool Corps as one of Deadpool's allies.

The webcomic, which carries a Parental Advisory warning, also features Catpool and Mousepool, as well as Deadpool himself. There's a lot of violence and gore, which is generally played for laughs.

As with Marvel's other Infinity Comic webcomics, it's a single-column vertically scrolling comic that's designed to be readable on a phone screen, rather than using a traditional comic book approach to panels and pages.

As an Infinity Comic, the series is initially only available via the Marvel Unlimited app.

The launch of the Dogpool series was accompanied by Catpool, Mousepool and Dogpool Team-Up one-shots, all of which are also covered here, and are included with Dogpool in the Webcomic Print Collection.

Dogpool contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Balloonacy: The villain of the Mousepool one-shot story ("What Goes Up...") is the Balloon Master, who's lifted away by a bunch of balloons when he wants to escape.
  • Canon Immigrant: As well as the usual Dogpool, the first issue features the first comic appearance by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Dogpool, as introduced in the film Deadpool & Wolverine. Deadpool Breaks the Fourth Wall to comment on it.
Deadpool: Wait a minute, aren't you supposed to be in the MCU?
    MCU Dogpool: Yip!
  • Cavalry Betrayal: The second issue, "A Dog With A Bone", begins in the aftermath of a bloody battle, with what's left of Deadpool Pinned to the Wall by an axe, missing his left arm as well as everything below the waist. He keeps calling for help and is overjoyed when Dogpool answers. Dogpool arrives, sees the severed arm, wrenches the humerus free and runs off to play with the bone, ignoring Deadpool. It's played for laughs.
  • Facepalm: At the end of "A Dog With A Bone", Wolverine opts to side with Dogpool rather than helping him, and Deadpool facepalms in despair. Notably, he does this with his severed hand, using his remaining arm to hold it to his face.
  • Infinite Canvas: As with Marvel's other Infinity Comics, the series designed for vertical scrolling on phones. Each issue is a single long page, with one column of panels. Panel transitions don't always rely on borders, and some panels are deliberately too tall to be seen as a whole image.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: The start of the second issue, "A Dog With A Bone", shows Deadpool is a dire state after an unseen battle. He's cut in half at the waist and missing an arm, with his torso Pinned to the Wall by an axe and his legs nearby.
  • Ironic Nursery Rhyme: The first issue is titled "Old MacDeadpool's Farm" and features Deadpool as its narrator, rephrasing "Old MacDonald Had A Farm" to describe the carnage unleashed on the men attacking the farm.
Then unsheath razor teeth, sever ankles underneath!
Make 'em scream on Deadpool's farm, E-I-E-I-O
  • Pinned to the Wall: The start of the second issue, "A Dog With A Bone", shows Deadpool with his torso pinned to a rock by a huge axe. To make things worse, he's also missing three limbs at this point.
  • Toilet Humour: "On the Scent" leads Wolverine and Dogpool across the country, following a powerful smell. Catpool, Mousepool and MCU Dogpool join them en route. The trail leads to an isolated outhouse toilet in the desert. The door opens, Deadpool walks out, and the rest of the cast is traumatised and nauseated by the horrific sight and smell. Catpool even puts a gas mask on.
  • Webcomic Print Collection: The one-shot comic Petpool: Pool Party reprints Dogpool #1-6 as well as the Catpool, Mousepool and Dogpool Team-Up one-shot webcomics. The collection is presented as a holiday special, complete with a cover showing characters in the winter snow, and includes a new holiday story as well as the reprints.
