Cyberpunk Lab is a 2022 webcomic on Webtoon. The story is about characters trying to live their lives in Neo-Virginia with other characters that already exist from fiction or just real-life people after their homes had to be evacuated because of the Bat Flu/Starbo Virus Epidemic.
There's comedy, Slice of Life, drama, tragedies, social commentary, violence, and Fanservice or all of the above.
This webcomic provides examples of:
- Always Night: Subverted, the setting tales place both daytime and nighttime depending on what time it is.
- Anthology Comic: The series contain multiple stories about the character's everyday lives and the adventures, news and Ecchi they encounter every day.
- An Immigrant's Tale: There are multiple chapters that revolve around families evacuating from war/invasions in different countries including Palestine, Russia and Ukraine etc. See Invading Refugees and War Refugees.
- Atrocity Montage: Chapter 8 shows many atrocities in many countries suffering in invasion and war such as urban crimes, disasters, accidents, mass hysteria, and many other scenes of human suffering being accompanied by harsh sounds such as panicking, screaming, and crying.
- Apocalyptic Montage: There are chapters showing shots of tattered landmarks, landscapes and buildings that are either severly damaged or falling apart.
- Big Brother Is Watching: Played Straight since every citizen even the youth are always being watched without them knowing anything about it, causing them to feel emotional tension of
paranoia when they see cameras in almost every place they go. This is also Truth in Television. - Big Disaster Plot: The first chapter revolves around the characters evacuating from fires and wildfires.
- Bloodier and Gorier: The violence is more brutal in chapter 8 and onwards.
- Censor Box: The clones that run out of the cloning laboratory completely naked are covered up with black bars, steam, or scenery on their chests, genitalia and buttocks.
- Chopper on Standby: A helicopter arrives when Lois Lane is running while carrying Jonathan.
- Citywide Evacuation: The characters had to leave their hometown due to their homes being destroyed by fires.
- Crapsack World: Life is not easy in Neo-Virginia. Not even in Real Life.
- Crapsack World, Escapist Sanctuary: Everyone needs to escape from the cruel and miserable world we're living in from time to time.
- Crapsaccharine World: Neo-Virginia and the countries merged with it hides it's flaws from the world until they break lose in chapter 9.
- Dystopia/City Noir: This is entire concept of the webcomic and it's upcoming web series adaptation.
- Escaped from the Lab: The New clones from the cloning factory break through the windows after being rejected from their sleeping tubes.
- False Utopia: When Neo-Virginia was first introduced into the storyline, it seems like a perfect place to live in. But in reality it has pandemics, viruses, mind viruses, fungus, parasites, medical disasters, survival, drama, Dictatorship, tragedies, Self-Harm, suicide, brutality, racism, misogyny, Homophobia, social commentary, violence, and Fanservice.
- Hive City: The continents on Earth consists of one massive building.
- Hotter and Sexier: In chapter 8, there's more sexualization and Fanservice, including the plotlines (2 other chapters that has segments revolving around Sex Ed, The Oldest Profession etc) and characters.
- Invading Refugees: The ones who are fleeing from war invasions and their homes being destroyed from airstrikes, drones, rifles, guns, explosives, nukes or fires.
- Layered Metropolis: The continents city districts are always stacked this way.
- Mega City: Almost every merged country has this, including city planets.
- Mood Whiplash: Sometimes it can be all over the place and jarring.
- Naked First Impression: The clones storm out of the factory this way in chapter 8 with their nudity obviously being censored.
- Neon City: As expected with any sort of media in the Cyberpunk genre.
- Raised in a Lab: The New clones are formed in a lab in a cloning factory during chapter 1 of the series which is Season 2024.
- Ruder and Cruder: The vulgarity is pushed to the extreme starting in chapter 9.
- Shown Their Work: The author, Nina always makes sure that she includes the right information based on research from Google or Wikipedia. This includes war
invasions
, human rights
, women's rights
, war crimes
, genocide
, gendercide, child labor
, child marriage
, massacres
, human trafficking, sex trafficking
, sterilization, infertility
, viruses
, epidemics

and the oldest profession
(Which is legal in Australia, Canada, Mexico and most states in Nevada. But illegal in other countries
) - Skyscraper City: Cities with tall buildings seem to be very common in the merged continents in Neo-Virginia.
- Slice of Life: The characters obviously have to go through mostly heartfelt events in their life like shopping, first day of school, going to the dentist etc.
- Stepford Suburbia: Every country that was merged with Neo-Virginia has at least one of them, along with power corruption.
- Technophobia: Justified, since the world is an Advert-Overloaded Future people are unfortunately going to be scared of technology and Artificial Intelligence taking over the world.
- The Migration: The characters nearly become homeless from their homes fading away, so they're required to be in a new home in Neo-Virginia where the countries have merged into one.
- The New '20s: The series takes place in 2023 to 2024, the same year the newer chapters are being released.
- Town with a Dark Secret: The urban problems that are hidden from everyone don't last long in the webcomic or web series.
- Truth in Television: Let's face it, pretty much everything that happens in the webcomic and upcoming web series happens in Real Life. Whether it be serious sociopolitical issues, capitalism, socialism, the environment, Domestic Abuse, Financial Abuse, animal cruelty, blackouts, power outages, pollution with smog to the point of using air in bottles or cans to survive,
fanwars, GangWars, the good and bad side of life and in industries, horrible news headlines, Poe's Law, Loony Laws, Sinister Surveillance and even death there's no escape from any of these not happening in every chapter. - Urban Fantasy: The whole series has dark Low Fantasy elements in a more modern setting that takes place on 2023-2024.
- Urban Segregation: Social classes with in each continent, state and country are divided this way.
- Very Special Episode: Justified since this is a series that is closer to real life. Every episode is going to have more heavy topics that children, teens and families can discuss with each other.
- War Refugees: Twins Arina and Alikan, Tulpa, Violet, Nanchuya and Vohon were like this in chapter 8.
