First released on April 9th, 2022, "100 Players Build a HUGE Civilization Across DIMENSIONS"
was creator MARKUSK's first foray into the genre of Minecraft Civilization Experiments. Featuring 100 players split between the dimensions of the Nether, End, and Overworld, it would features an epic tale of political intrigue, civil strife, conquest, and warfare, centered around one ambitious soldier and his attempts to take over civilization across all dimensions.
After the large scale success of his first video, MARKUSK would go on to create more videos in this genre. First, there was "300 Players Simulate Civilization in a Zombie Apocalypse"
, where 300 players were spread between 4 factions divided across 4 different iterations of the same Zombie Island, seeking to survive and thrive amidst the zombie apocalypse. In a tale of survival and conflict, watch as one organization secretly plots to take over the world, using the zombie apocalypse to further their own gains.
Secondly, there was "I Made 300 TINY Players Simulate Civilization in Minecraft"
where 300 players were now spread between 5 different rooms of a gigantic house, seeking to survive in such a hostile and unusual environment. Watch as the The Conqueror returns, and seeks to recreate his success once again, as the other civilizations clash in a struggle to retain supremacy and preserve their culture in the ensuing conflict.
Third, there was “100 Players Rebuild Civilization in a Nuclear Winter"
which featured 100 people, all of whom survived the Nuclear Apocalypse in 3 different vaults, seeking to survive the collapse of society in the nuclear wasteland after running out of food at home. In a tale of starvation, social conflict, warfare, dissent, and disorder, watch as the groups from these three vaults fight in an attempt to get out of the city and escape before another nuke destroys them.
Fourth, and significantly, there was “1000 Players Simulate Civilization on Survival Islands”
, released on November 30th, 2023, where, true to its title, 1000 players were spread between 6 groups on 6 islands, each seeking to build up their own civilizations and survive and thrive. Witness as the machinations of one man and the internal social struggles on all of the islands culminate in a great conflict, one that threatens to destroy all civilization in its entirety, and the struggles and lives of the people therin.
Finally, in a blast from the past, there is “1000 Players Simulate Civilization Between Dimensions”
, released on November 30th, 2024, where the 1000 players finally return to the setting of the first video, the dimensions of the Overworld, Nether, and End, now with many more players and many more factions each to manifest. Watch the return of several of the major players from the previous video, each trying to battle for control over their own dimensions, whether through intrigue, economic control, propaganda, and False Flag Operations, as the people caught in between prepare for Doomsday and the opening of the portals between dimensions. Witness the struggle and the tragedy of this set of conspiracies, as the three dimensions threaten to spiral into all out war, and wait and see who comes out on top.
Following this success, MARKUSK would lay dormant for a while not posting any new videos until May 21, 2026, when he released “1500 Players Simulate Civilization in Minecraft"
. Featuring a new format following more closely other major civilization experiments, nations were instead divided between the three large landmasses, one warm, one cold, and one temperate. Watch as a cast of all new characters seek to navigate a tumultuous political environment, filled with isolationism, unity, activism, corruption, conflict, and war, and witness the tragedy of civilizations unfold.
Tropes include:
- Another Dimension: The main gimmick of this civilization event: 100 players were split across the 3 Minecraft dimensions of the Overworld, Nether, and End, and were forced to survive in these differing environments, eventually fighting against each other to see which civilization would come out on top.
- Back-to-Back Badasses: Being completely outmatched by the Nether forces, Phlow and JollyTinsel formed up in this manner just before engaging the enemy.
- The Bad Guy Wins: Having led his faction into surviving all rounds of conflict on the server, BeeBag, the villainous and conniving Jerkass dictator of the Nether, ultimately came out on top, having killed all other factions to gain victory.
- Band of Brothers: The End, unlike the Overworld and the Nether, were actually united in their goals and allegiances, fighting their battles as one and cooperating on all things military and civilian, like feeding each other during The Famine, and working together to loot the End Cities in their dimension.
- Big Badass Battle Sequence: Several, considering that three different powerful factions seek to take over the server:
- The End's first attack on the Overworld, with the full might of the two larger factions clashing together over the entirety of the Overworld's island base with the End overwhelming them and forcing them into a retreat.
- The Final Battle, where the combined forces of BeeBag, Phlow, and NojusOnTop combined together to face down the remaining End forces at their home base in the End.
- Combat by Champion: After successfully killing off everyone on the other teams except for Phlow, BeeBag decided to agree to dueling Phlow personally to decide the event. He indeed wins, completing his victory over the other teams.
- Enemy Mine: With the End having annihilated the Overworld, down to just two people, BeeBag, having realized how outgunned they were, allies with the remaining Overworld players and the End traitor NojusOnTop, despite trying to kill the former earlier, in order to deal with the End once and for all.
- Final Battle: With the End being the largest and most powerful singular faction left on the server, BeeBag's Nether army forged a temporary alliance with Phlow from the Overworld and the traitor NojusOnTop from the End to fight back and try to claim victory in this event. BeeBag's alliance wins, allowing him to tie off loose ends and kill the remaining members of the other teams in two other Final Battles to cement his victory in the event.
- Special mention goes to Phlow and JollyTinsel making a Last Stand before BeeBag, with Phlow managing to get a Combat by Champion to decide the event. BeeBag wins, giving them complete victory in the end
- Fire-Forged Friends: After all their bickering over Phlow stealing the enchantment table, in the wake of the End's attack on the Overworld, JollyTinsel finally got past their differences as their team was nearly annihilated, helping to lead the end away from Phlow so that Phlow could get help from the Nether, surviving all that time, and then coming back to assist Phlow in their Last Stand against BeeBag's forces.
- Mêlée à Trois: The event devolved into this, with all three factions seeking to dominate the server for themselves independently of each other.
- Military Coup: BeeBag, a Nether warrior with all of the loot the Nether could offer and the backing of several other powerful warriors, overthrew the democratically elected leader of the Nether, Ninety9Wan, by holding him at sword-point, forcing him to either give up the crown or die. Facing this, Nintety9Wan instead threw his crown into the lava below, burning it to a crisp, then jumped into the lava, defying BeeBag and leaving him without a crown, but with BeeBag in control of the entire Nether.
- Misplaced Retribution: Phlow, one of the leading players in the Overworld, retaliated against a player named Lv55, who he believed was stealing his iron from his furnaces, by stealing the public enchanting table, angering everybody in the Overworld's main settlement immensely and causing drama that would last until he returned the enchanting table during the Overworld's election.
- War Arc: When the portals between the dimensions opened up, war began between the various dimensions, seeing the unstable Overworld pitted against BeeBag's Nether and the united democratic forces of the End.
- Villain Respect: Despite hating the guts out of the original Bunker Civilization, BeeBag respected the last remaining enemy team members — NojusOnTop, Wecket, JollyTinsel, and Phlow — enought in order to apologize to Nojus and give Phlow a chance towards victory via Combat by Champion.
- Aggressive Negotiations: When the ZRA met up with the rest of the Green team when they came seeking help in repelling the zombies, their negotiators stalled for time talking with the team's defenders while the rest of their forces mercillessly hunted down and killed the farming team. They then initiated combat with the defensive team by asking them about their killing of zombies before launching their attack, massacring them all.
- Chekhov's Gunman: You known that player, ItzMeMarko, who was hiding out by himself with his scarecrow? You notice how the ZRA haven't been seen killing him? Well, guess what. He set up a bomb beneath the main castle's throne room, blowing up all of the ZRA as soon as they tried celebrating there, walking away into the distance with a Surprisingly Happy Ending.
- Kill All Humans: The final goal of the ZRA, who wanted to kill all humans for hunting down the "innocent" zombies plaguing the land.
- Surprisingly Happy Ending: Just as the Zombie Rights Advocates gathered in the main town's throne room to celebrate them having killed every other player in the event, a bomb detonates underneath them, killing them all, quickly reminding us that Marko is still alive, the Sole Survivor, and had singlehandedly saved us from another Downer Ending.
- Truce Trickery: While the ZRA negotiated with the Green Team's main defenders, their scouts took the opportunity to massacre the farming team while en route to the discussion site, using the confusion created by this to launch a surprise attack.
- Zombie Advocate: The titular Zombie Rights Advocates, usually shortened to the ZRA, whom promoted zombie rights during the Zombie Apocalypse by trying to Kill All Humans for "murdering innocent" zombies.
- Zombie Apocalypse: The premise of the event: 300 people were split between four different teams on four different versions of the main island, each having to survive constantly spawning zombies that could easily overwhelm them, gathering resources from the zombies and other sources to stay alive.
- Aborted Arc: The video ends with wilding, Sailor, and Marko all being transported to a Pokemon themed Minecraft world in a Sequel Hook. This is never brought up again in subsequent videos. Similarly, BeeBag vows that he won't forget wilding's betrayal as he dies, yet the next videos have them working together as usual without any sign of animosity between them.
- Disney Villain Death: During the Living Room Team's Last Stand, SailorsBounty is beaten back and eventually knocked off the top of the house by wilding. Later subverted, as it turns out he used a water bucket to break his fall and slipped away while the Cellar Team finished off the survivors.
- Dying Moment of Awesome: Cornered by BeeBag and the Cellar Team, YellowTiger1138 makes his Last Request - that they listen to a reading of his faction's bible. After he does so and the team prepare to kill him, YellowTiger promptly responds by detonating a shedload of TNT hidden under the room, wiping out all of Cellar Team save for BeeBag himself, complete with a defiant shout of "DOORSIDEN WILL LIVE ON!".
- Foreshadowing: If one looks carefully during the final battle when Living Room Team are wiped out, the counter for this faction doesn't actually drop to zero. This is because SailorsBounty survived being knocked from a high place by the Cellar Team; he returns to take down BeeBag during the finale.
- Macro Zone: The setting of this civilization experiment, with the players being trapped inside an entire house in separate rooms, each with their own environments based on an enlarged version of a particular part of the house, like the cellar, yard, or bedroom.
- Wham Shot:
- Just as YellowTiger1130 finishes his surrender speech to BeeBag, BeeBag lampshades how fancy his final words were. Then YellowTiger retorts with a Wham Line, taking the time to jump on a wooden pressure plate hidden in the room - prompting the sound of TNT igniting behind him
- Wham Line:
- Just as YellowTiger1130 finishes his surrender speech to BeeBag, we have this exchange.
BeeBag: "Those are some fancy words for a dead man."YellowTiger: "No, these are:"(He steps on a pressure plate. The sound of lit TNT fills the background.)YellowTiger: "DOORSEIDEN WILL LIVE ON!"(Numerous blocks of TNT explode. The room is destroyed, killing all of Cellar Team with the exception of BeeBag himself.)
- After the End: The setting of this civilization experiment, having occurred after a nuclear apocalypse wiped out an entire city, with the survivors being forced to leave their vaults due to a lack of food, wandering the ruined city trying to find supplies and survive against the Nuclear Mutants inhabiting the bombed out city.
- The Cameo: Ish13c makes an appearance in this video as the leader of a surviving military squad who were preparing to rescue as many survivors as possible before nuking the city once again in order to clear out the remaining monsters in the area.
- Nuclear Mutant: One of the many threats in the city are wandering, hostile mutants created by radiation from the apocalypse.
- Sadistic Choice: At the very end, Ish gives the survivors one - they can fight to the death for his entertainment and have one of them survive, or they can refuse but have all of them die when the nuke is dropped. They respond by shooting him down and standing together as a group, facing the city as the nuclear bomb impacts.
- Big Badass Battle Sequence: Two:
- The attack by the Wytherian Empire on Bryyher and St. Marys. With all of the world's population participating in this conflict, it featured the death of Perspekt1ve in an Uriah Gambit set by Tamer, followed by Tamer, Dynamite, and HenryWest leading their combined forces on St Marys central citadel, in a brutal all or nothing confrontation that saw many people die on both sides and many acts of heroism from the defenders.
- The assault on the same citadel by BeeBag's Pirates, which featured the remaining living members of the island teaming up to hold off their invasion once and for all, saving civilization with their valiant and stalwart defense.
- The Conspiracy: While seemingly being the small time ruler of part of St. Martins called Wytheria, Tamer000 was secretly leading a group of followers and secret vassals from across the islands in a Shadow Government called the Wytherian Empire, which sought to unite all the islands under the control and leadership of Tamer. To do so, they would try and overthrow the leaders of the other islands, replacing them with themselves, while waging war against those who resisted.
- Dirty Cop: Despite Perspekt1ve's intentions, several cops in the Tresco Police Department let the power get to their head, leading to them using their police position to extort and brutalize various inhabitants on the island. This led to a drop in popularity on the island of Perspekt1ve and his Police, causing him to lose the election, and causing further conflict between the Tresco Population and Police.
- Gondor Calls for Aid: With BeeBag's pirate army bearing down on them, the remaining survivors of the Wytherian war put aside their differences, abandoned the Empire, and grouped together with the people of St. Marys and Bryyher to hold off the Pirates as one unified army. Together, they successfully repelled BeeBag's invasion force, killing him in the process.
- The Republic: St. Marys, the largest of the islands, was the most democratic of them all. It was run by 5 major guilds created and managed by most of the players, and had a republican govenment where each of the guilds held equal sway. As a result, most people supported the government, and actively participated in its running. This is especially in contrast to the other islands, which slowly had dictators take power in all of them.
- Shadow Government: Turns out, Tamer000's Wytheria wasn't just confined to his section of St. Martins, but was actually a shadow empire seeking to unite the entire archipelago under their control. He had allied with Perspekt1ve of the Tresco Police Department, Henry West of Bryyher, and Dynamite1406 of St. Agnes, using their influence to form a conspiracy against anyone who he thought was a threat to the plan, such as MrMelo of Bryyher and MaltySalty of St. Martins, while relying on their supporters to hopefully conquer the one remaining unvassalized land: St. Marys.
- Wham Episode:
- The peace conference between Perspekt1ve and DiamondUHF's faction. Despite Diamond and his people wanting to absolve Perspekt1ve's Tresco Police Department of wrongdoing in order to ensure peace on their island, Perspekt1ve misinterperets the word "absolve" with the word "abolish," thereby interpreting the conference as a trap trying to get his Police Department dissolved permanently, causing him to rail against this perceived injustice. This triggers an argument between the two sides that escalates until one of Diamond's citizens tries to assassinate Perspekt1ve to end this madness. To try and salvage the situation, Diamond's soldiers kill the assassin, but by then, Perspekt1ve already had enough and marched on Diamond's faction, leading to their destruction in battle.
- MaltySalty's deposition as leader of St. Martins. Out-Gambitted by Tamer's appeal to his population, he was Lured into a Trap and killed by the Shadow Dictator and his new subjects, leading to Wytheria gaining control over 3/5 of the world's population.
- Day 8 and 9: After the inconclusive bloodbath that was Day 7, news reached the islands that a force of vicious pirates would arrive on Day 9 to Rape, Pillage, and Burn the islands to the ground. This immediately causes the Wytherian Empire to disband in the wake of both leadership losses taken during the great battle and the impending greater threat, causing a massive shift in politics, the downfall of Tamer and Dynamite's fortunes, and the true unification of the islands.
- Wham Line:
- "This Item is a police department badge, of the Tresco Island, abolishing all of our history that we have created throughout the history that we have created throughout the server... You are telling us to give up our badges... All of our ranks, everything me and my and my(sic)..." At the Tresco peace conference.
- "What do you want then, what do you want?" "You to step down." Malty and TreeBark117 during a protest held by the latter.
- "We were tipped off about a certain plan that was going to hatch..." Tr1nf1n1ty during Perspekt1ve's Tresco-Bryyher bridge opening ceremony.
- Wretched Hive: St. Agnes, the southwestern island on the map, was absolutely filled to the brim with players who liked to fight and steal from others, leading to the island becoming a lawless hellhole with multiple murders and robberies constantly occurring. This led the player Dynamite1406 to section off the eastern landmass into its own polity, the Cottonmouth Coalition, which used military force to suppress and subdue crime. Eventually, due to his main competitor for leadership dying to an Assassination Attempt, he was able to cement full control over the entire island, stomping out crime entirely.
- Another Dimension: Once again, the players were split across the three dimensions of the Overworld, Nether, and End. However, since there were many more players this time, all three areas had been greatly expanded, and a greater variety of nations and peoples formed.
- Big Bad Ensemble: Unlike the previous experiments, where there was only one major threat to the livelihoods of the people living in the various factions, this video featured several:
- First, there was Perspekt1ve's Roofer gang, who were an Evil, Inc. MegaCorp who sought to gain control over the Nether through economic monopolization and political manipulation, pitting the Nether's leadership against each other until they were all eliminated, allowing them to take over completely, now seeking to take over the rest of the civilizations too.
- Second, there was Racechamp, the leader of the Alwrin-Gaia Union, who secretly attempted to turn the Overworld against HenryWest's Mongolians by staging several False Flag Operations against the neutral factions, while sending an assassin to target HenryWest himself to decapitate the Mongolians. While he would successfully defeat HenryWest, he was then unprepared for and overwhelmed by Perspekt1ve Nether army.
- Death World: Just like in the first experiment, the Nether was a literal hellhole of a location, filled with copious amounts of lava, hostile piglins everywhere, and a lack of food other than hostile hoglins, leading to many deaths and the monopolization of resources.
- Decapitated Army: Invoked by Racechamp, whose main plan to bring down the Monglians involved sending an assassin to eliminate their leader while staging False Flag Operations against the neutral factions; with the Mongolians leaderless, they could easily be mopped up by the Alwrin-Gaia Union's forces. It fails due to the assassin botching the job, forcing the plotters to attack them outright.
- Do Not Go Gentle: When faced with the knowledge that Racechamp is about to mobilise his forces against the Mongolians, HenryWest responds by gathering his faction, giving a final Rousing Speech, and attacking their foe with all they have to try and take as many of them down with them. While they do a fair chunk of damage, the Mongolians are ultimately overwhelmed and slaughtered to the last, with Henry himself being taken down while trying to kill Racechamp.
- Evil All Along: Initially, it seems as if Racechamp, the leader of the newly formed Alwrin-Gaia union was simply a peacemaker, seeking to amend the frayed bonds between his faction and the Mongolians of Henry West as well as between the two settlements. However, on Day 7, Henry finds out from a detective that he had actually authorized, without the knowledge of his own people, the assassination of Henry and the destruction of the other civilizations in the Overworld, all in order to destroy the Mongolians once and for all. This is despite the Mongolians attempting to make peace overtures to his people, and the reticence of the other factions in participating in the plan. In the end, after wiping out the Mongolians during their defiant stand, his Knight Templar-ish actions ended up wiping out at least half of the Overworld's population, leading to the Overworld being unable to resist the Nether invasion, proving his actions wrong in the first place.
- Heel–Face Turn: Tamer000, who initially wanted to take over the End by any means possible, eventually realized the damage he was causing by continuing to wage war on Elysia when he observed his allies getting raided in retaliation, leading to him abandoning his ruthless tactics and attempting to use peace instead. While Elysia did not heed his calls and fought to the very end, he went on to become the Big Good of the entire event by supplying and reinforcing the End from invasion with his Iron Bank, allowing the End to defeat Perspekt1ve and end his warmongering and expansionist ways, also allowing the Overworld to bring Racechamp to justice afterwards.
- Bittersweet Ending: After Lime's death during his attack on the Warm island, the remainder of his forces threw down their weapons and sued for peace, ending the great war. However, the sheer amount of devastation on all islands after the wars was over left many nations abandoned and destitute, with the remaining population (reduced to around 300 from 1806 starting participants) grieving for those who had died in the conflicts that had occurred. Fortunately, with peace established between and on all three islands, the remaining people were optimistic about their own futures, with KOGEL taking the opportunity to unanchor his house from its mountain and fly off into the sunset using balloons, finally getting the view he sought all along.
- Hidden Elf Village: Early in the event, a player called Lime42 gathered together many like-minded players on the Cold island to move underground, seeking shelter and isolation from both the players and mobs above, fearing the conflicts that the land would be embroiled in. As a result, they proceeded to kick out and threaten anyone in their territory trying to establish relations with them, even to the point of killing outsiders. However, this isolation would soon be challenged when a series of arson attacks and assassinations would be traced to their territory, causing the outside world to fear them, gearing up for a great conflict.
- Shout-Out:
- One of the nations on the Temperate Island was literally just Arasaka Corporation from Cyberpunk 2077 transplanted into a Minecraft setting.
- After all the conflict was over, KOGEL took his house and unanchored off of its original mountaintop using a set of balloons he built, flying off into the sunset like the house in Pixar's Up
