Help Meowt is an animated/live-action hybrid series created by Kyra Kupetsky (also known for Fuwa Fuwa Foof, The Good Advice Cupcake and Chikn Nuggit) and published by BuzzFeed on their Facebook page.
Thus far, the series has only had a single episode (which features The Land of Boggs creator Brent Sievers) plus some concept art
and a bunch of downloadable GIF stickers of Mew and Boo available on BuzzFeed Animation's stickers collection on GIPHY
. The episode, titled "New Year's Resolution", was released on January 6, 2018, and can be watched here
on Kyra's Twitter.
Help Meowt provides examples of:
- Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Mew and Boo wear no clothes aside from parallel bowties.
- Ambiguous Gender: Mew and Boo have a distinctly feminine and masculine voice, respectively, but their appearances are androgynous, and they've never been officially referred to with any pronouns indicating their genders.
- As Himself: "New Year's Resolution" stars Brent Sievers as himself.
- Devil's Pitchfork: Boo is a devil cat who has a pitchfork as their signature item.
- Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes: Boo has half-lidded eyes most of the time, reflecting how they're a smug, laid-back shoulder devil who encourages people into being Lazy Bums.
- Good Angel, Bad Angel: The basis of Mew and Boo. Mew is a shoulder angel who wants people to pursue their imposed goals for the greater good, while Boo is a shoulder devil who encourages people to give into their temptations and setbacks. Notably, whenever they're in the same room, both are more focused with fighting each other over their subjects rather than actually advicing them.
- Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Mew would come off as rather vulgar if it weren't for the fact that they sprinkle their dialogue with deliberately bowdlerized curses.Mew: [to Brent] Good on you for being so gosh darn responsible! We're gonna work out lil tushies off at the gym and make this year a great one!
- Implied Love Interest: The concept art and stickers for Mew and Boo strongly imply that they'd at least develop a romantic bond with each other, given that they feature prominent artwork of them being flustered or kissing.
- Interrupted by the End: "New Year's Resolution" ends with Mew going to beat up Boo, only for the episode to abruptly end before they actually hit them.
- Magic Wand: Mew's signature item is a wand with the fairy tale design of a stick with a star as the tip. They have never been seen using it for actual magic, however, at most only using it to beat up Boo at the end of "New Year's Resolution".
- New Year's Resolution: The aptly-named "New Year's Resolution" is about Brent planning to go to the gym on a daily basis as his new year's resolution, and being pushed into going for it by Mew and quitting it by Boo, leading to the latter two clashing with each other. The episode ends with Brent giving up on his resolution before he even starts working on it, much to the dismay of Mew, who gets rubbed in the face over it by Boo.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Mew and Boo are an angel cat and a devil cat, respectively.
- Pun-Based Title: The series' title is a pun on "help me out" with the word "meow" added to it.
- Rage Breaking Point: In "New Year's Resolution", Mew tries not to lose their cool when Boo starts tempting Brent into forgoing his gym plan in favor of playing video games at home, but eventually gets enraged when Brent quickly gives up and Boo arrogantly declares to Mew that they won, prompting them to beat the shit out of Boo.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Mew and Boo, respectively. Mew's a cheerful fellow who encourages people to work hard and also gets easily emotionally pressured by Boo's presence, while Boo is a more collected slacker who prefers relaxation and isn't very fazed by Mew, though they certainly aren't above taunting Mew when they get their own way.
- Roger Rabbit Effect: "New Year's Resolution" mostly involves live-action sets and characters, with Mew and Boo being the only animated characters. Only the series' side material is fully drawn/animated.
- Shaking the Rump: Mew and Boo both do it in "New Year's Resolution".
- Mew shakes their butt and wags their tail to denote that Brent "is gonna [work his little tush off at the gym]". This gesture even became one of Mew's official GIF stickers.
- At the end of the episode, Boo shakes their butt at Mew's face to taunt them over Brent giving up his new year's plan before he even put it in motion. Mew doesn't take it kindly.
- Wingding Eyes: One GIF sticker
depicts Mew with red pulsating hearts taking the place of their usual eyes.
