HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT? (Web Video)
...heard about what? note
Salty: Anyway, Mal, you wanted to bring something to the table today?
Mal: I do. I have a Littlest Pet Shop CSI
Gerber: Uh, Mal? Mal? You have to say "have you heard of" first, or else we can't—
Salty: It's "have you heard about"! You've been on this fucking show for like five or six years, and you can't even say it right!
Gerber: I haven't watched a single episode.

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT? (sometimes abbreviated to HYHA) is a comedic commentary series on YouTube created and hosted by Derek "Saltydkdan" Kelly, which features him and his friends, Gerber and Pastey, as well as a variety of guest stars, laughing and joking over various niche and obscure pieces of content (usually the kind that's amusingly bad). The three star as humorously exaggerated versions of themselves while also offering honest praises and criticisms as they force themselves to suffer through a number of movies, web shows, video games, and various other media.

Since the series' debut on January 5, 2019, it has accumulated a very large fanbase and two full seasons, its first having concluded in August 2022 and its second in May 2026, with a third currently ongoing. The official series playlist broke past a million views in early 2024, coinciding with the show's fifth anniversary, and "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Diary of a Wimpy Kid Fanfics" has remained the most viewed video on Salty's channel for several years in a row at nearly five million views.

A list of all the episodes can be found in the series' recap page.

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: TV Tropes

  • Alternate History: When discussing a video on if Queen Elizabeth was assassinated, Gerber says that in that reality, the grass would be greener and he wouldn't be colorblind.
  • Art Evolution:
    • The original avatars of the cast were initially static outside of being moved to indicate talking. After "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Spongebob in Tehran 2", new expressions were designed for these avatars whenever they talk.
    • In Season 2, Salty's avatar was updated to give him longer hair and a bigger bowtie, alongside shading and more exaggerated facial expressions. He would alternate between the old and new avatar before the release of Season 3.
    • "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Beatboxing Puppy (The Movie)" introduced new avatar designs for Gerber and Pastey. Alongside being shaded like Salty's new avatar, Gerber's avatar now has lines representing facial hair and rectangular glasses, while Pastey's avatar has longer hair, glossier Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes, hoodie sleeves, and a purple beanie. In addition, the set background is now shaded and more detailed, with visible stage lighting, plants, and a skyline backdrop.
  • Banned in China:invoked Parodied by "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Adventure Man", which begins with the text "This HYHA has been BANNED in EVERY country (except for yours)".
  • Bile Fascination:invoked Derek and his friends are very interested in So Bad, It's Good content, as the series focuses on them reacting to hilariously bad works such as Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls or Mike and Melissa.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Sonic Pokemon Wiki", Claire tries to assure Salty that the fetish pages they've found are "the worst [the wiki] gets" or that its nowhere else on the wiki. In each instance, red text saying "LIE" or "WRONG" slowly appear on screen.
    • At the start of "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Beatboxing Puppy (The Movie)", Red continuously insists that Our Drawings is going to be really good, which none of the other hosts believe.
  • Brick Joke: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Karate Training Videos", when Pastey insults JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Salty claims that he's outside his house and ready to kill him, asking him to open his door. Pastey asks why he can't just break down the door with his karate skills, to which Salty states that Black Belts need to be invited in like vampires. Later on, when the Sausages invade Tommy Nitro's dojo, Salty uses this to proclaim them as not being true karate practitioners, since they didn't ask to be invited.
  • Butt-Monkey: Forrest, Pastey's partner, tends to be on the receiving end of the cast's jokes. When Pastey says they're a Danganronpa fan, Salty and Gerber suggest he divorce them. When they recommend The Rodfellows Movie in the Season 2 finale, they're called the show's worst guest (which they take pride in), and they're later executed at the end of the video. The thumbnail of the Season 2 marathon shows them about to be eaten by the Analog Horror rendition of Pac-Man.
  • Clickbait Gag: The hosts parody a thumbnail made by Calobi Productions that puts a rainbow and trans flag next to Riley from Inside Out and an all-gender restroom by making a fake thumbnail replacing Riley with Pasty and the bathroom with Calobi Productions.
  • Content Warnings:
    • Salty puts a trigger warning for racist character designs in "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Taiwan Coolfox".
    • Played for Laughs in "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Adventure Man", which begins with the text "This HYHA has been BANNED in EVERY country (except for yours)" and says to "watch at your own risk..."
  • Disproportionate Retribution: At the end of "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Furry Inflation Cinema", Salty claims that he will get Forrest deported for showing them The Rodfellows Movie, a terrible furry inflation fetish movie. At the end of the video, he has them executed via guillotine.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: In "HOW TO SELL YOUR GARFIELD MERCH (HYHA)", the boys are quick to draw comparisons between the Garfield superfans and furries.
  • Don't Try This at Home: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: wikiHow", Salty has the editor put "Please do not drink paint" on screen after he tells the audience that they should start drinking paint to become an internet sensation.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Viewer Requests (FT. Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan)", Broly gets offended by Gerber joking about Charlie Kirk’s assassination, telling him it's never okay to joke about someone's death.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Salty's updated S3+ design, as rendered by Camraz, initially made sporadic appearances throughout the latter half of the second season and in other videos featuring Salty.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: A handful of episodes from the first year of the series, including the very first two episodes, only feature Salty and Pastey as hosts. Gerber wouldn't become a regular host of the show until "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Mike and Melissa (Cartoon)", finally becoming a permanent member of the cast following the end of the show's first season.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Despite being a mass-murdering villain, Broly is offended when Gerber jokes about Charlie Kirk's assassination, claiming that you should never joke about someone's death.
  • Failed a Spot Check: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: SpongeBob in Tehran", Salty and his friends very quickly notice that the creators left in a very obvious Adobe Premiere Media Missing errornote . Twice.
  • From Bad to Worse: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Furry Inflation Cinema", Salty lets out a big yell of frustration upon it being pointed out that there's roughly 40 minutes left in the movie... only for Bunty Roonote  to appear on screen, causing him to let out a Big "NO!" and lose it further.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Salty tells Gerber and Pasty not to be too harsh towards the first pilot of "Adventure Man" as it was only the first episode and still needed to figure out what it would become, only for him to instantly start making fun of the episode's animation.
    • Broly claims that he would never wish death upon someone, despite him having blown up a planet.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Furry Inflation Cinema", Salty says that the video would be the best recording session ever, only for text to instantly appear on screen saying that it was the worst HYHA ever.
  • Instant Regret: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Furry Inflation Cinema", when Forrest is introducing the topic of the video, they describe it as an "indie animated movie", leading Salty to sarcastically ask if that means it's like The Amazing Digital Circus, to which Forrest responds by saying it's exactly like that and Gerber says it might even be better. Salty then asks if that means he'll want to fuck all of the characters, which leads to a very long Beat before Forrest and Gerber both say that he will, with the latter adding in that it's most likely given what he knows about him. This immediately causes Salty to turn anxious as he realizes he's going to wish he hadn't said that, with Pastey joking that he's going to be lambasted for two hours for having made that statement.
  • Mister Seahorse: "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Sonic x Pokemon Wiki" features an image of Salty pregnant.
  • Never Speak Ill of the Dead: Broly gets offended when Gerber makes a joke about Charlie Kirk after his death.
  • "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Chuck E. Cheese Training Videos", when Derek and Gerber joke about Chuck E. being an alt-right furry, Pastey takes a moment to state that it is a real problem in the furry community, seeing other furries get cancelled on Twitter every day thanks to having pictures of themselves wearing MAGA hats in their fursuits.
  • Running Gag: It's common for the hosts to jokingly accuse Salty of having strange fetishes. For example, "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: wikiHow" has Pastey and Gerber constantly joke that Salty has a diaper fetish due to the site's suggested articles, much to the latter's chagrin.
  • Still Believes in Santa: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Life's Biggest Slop", Gerber pretends to believe that Santa is real and reacts with shock at being told he isn't real.
  • Take That!:
    • Salty and his friends spend much of "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Littlest Pet Shop Roleplay Videos" making fun of a homophobic Littlest Pet Shop YouTuber, putting a nerd emoji on screen every time she speaks.
    • Salty and his friends make many jokes at the expense of Queen Elizabeth. In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Life's Biggest SLOP", Gerber says that in a reality where she was assassinated, the grass would be greener and he wouldn't be colorblind.
    • Salty refers to a video about if Hitler was alive today as a JonTron compilation. In another video, they state JonTron's name several times to "make the comments section worse".
    • Salty and his friends make fun of Asmongold for his right-wing views.
    • Pasty describes the U.S. military as going on a suicide mission for minimum wage.
    • Salty says that Winston Churchill was too wide to ever see his penis, which Pasty blames for his massacre of Bengals.
    • Gerber and Pasty say that Adventure Man, a badly made fan series based on American Dad!, is definitely better than The Cleveland Show.
    • Salty tells Pasty that he had two options for the guest of "HYHA Viewer Requests": Broly and ProJared, and that he's lucky he chose Broly.
    • In "Furry Inflation Cinema", Salty says that it tracks that the characters in The Rodfellows (the creator of which has been accused of pedophilia) play Fortnite, and later jokes about them being Minecraft players.
    • In "Beatboxing Puppy (The Movie)", Salty shows Calobi Production's previous videos on animation errors in popular shows and movies as proof of the channel's popularity. When he brings up The Loud House as one of the covered shows, Gerber mentions he now thinks Calobi's works are "shit from a butt" just from the mention of it alone.
    • Gerber and Pasty both say that the bad fighting animation in Our Drawings reminds them of RWBY.
      • Salty says that an overly slow scene from the movie is paced like One Piece.
  • Take That, Audience!: In the opening of "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Sonic x Pokemon Wiki", Pastey rhetorically asks the group if they've heard of rap music, arguably the single most popular genre of music at the time, as he shows them a far-right Michigan politician's attempt at it. Gerber quickly pops in to address all the Saltydkdan fans watching the video by clarifying that rap is the type of music performed in Friday Night Funkin'.
  • Tempting Fate: Lampshaded in "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Furry Inflation Cinema". Forrest tells the members of the HYHA cast that the topic they've chosen for their video that day is very similar to Mike and Melissa, a video the show had covered several years ago and that Salty remarks he would love to see more of. When Forrest then follows up by saying that Mike and Melissa is the better-written of the two, Salty immediately starts praising God with joy and exclaims "This is going to be the best recording session EVER!". Cue onscreen text appearing that bluntly foreshadows how the video is actually going to go.
"This is the worst HYHA ever"
  • This Is Gonna Suck: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Littlest Pet Shop Roleplay Videos", Pasty's reaction to Salty sending the homophobic Christian video in the Discord chat goes as follows:
Pasty: Oh, for fuck's sake... oh, for fuck's sake, I forgot about this...
  • Toilet Humor: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: wikiHow", Salty reads multiple wikiHow articles about pooping. When Pasty complains, Salty insists that poop is funny, which Pasty disagrees with.
  • Un-person: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Taiwan Coolfox", the thumbnail of the removed episode "Reading Minecraft Romance Novels" is shown but with CallMeCarson replaced by Pomni from The Amazing Digital Circus, due to Carson allegedly having sexually messaged minors.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: In "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: wikiHow", Salty censors a drawing of someone vomiting from the wikiHow article "How to Vomit in a Bucket".
  • You Are Too Late: By the end of "HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT: Taiwan Coolfox", Salty is trying to beat the game before the two hour window closes in hopes of potentially refunding it under Steam's refund policy. Initially, it seems like he makes it with 10 minutes to spare... until Gerber casually taunts him about having 2.3 hours in the game. It takes him a moment, and both Gerber and Pastey pointing it out, for him to realize that means he can't refund it anymore.

Salty: Soooo, what did you guys think of TV Tropes?
Pastey: I thought the users there were kind of just, y'know, comedically exaggerating when they said that it would ruin your life, but I'm gonna be honest, I kind of see their point now.
Gerber: Yeah, I'm gonna be so for real; not a single one of the Nightmare Fuel pages scared me, but knowing some of the things that people on this site are willing to give pages to is going to keep me awake at night until I'm living in a nursing home. So thank you for that, Derek.
(everybody laughs)
