Danno: Too long, how about T- (cut to black screen, as the Toon Turf logo slowly fades in)
Toon Turf is a web-animated Mystery Horror show by Danno Cal
following the Rabbit-Monkey, Riggy.
After he turns 18 in 2019, Riggy moves to Toonville, a beautiful town covered with imagery of Lucky, a local celebrity. While trying to uncover a secret of the jolly yellow fellow, Riggy burns down Lucky's factory, killing a couple of citizens there in the process. Riggy quickly then goes on the run, while growing his criminal record, and must find out what Lucky Luckington is hiding, while also trying to prove himself and other citizens that he is a hero.
The series was originally slated for release in January 2024, but became stuck in a particularly nasty Development Hell. After multiple delays, on 17th November 2025, the announcement of the release date of pilot on 27th November 2025 occurred
. The pilot of has since had over 3 million views.
According to an official explanation video
, the series is planned to have 4 seasons, but how much of those 4 seasons are made and released depends entirely on how successful the series becomes after it releases. In December 2025 Danno Cal confirmed that a second episode was in production. In March 2026 during a livestream Dano Cal also stated that a third episode had been greenlit.
Riggy, the main character, is part of a Crossover with several other channels as part of Shorts Wars.

Toon Turf contains examples of:
- 20 Minutes into the Past: The series is set in 2019 and premiered in late 2025.
- Abusive Parents: Robert and Rhonda are emotionally abusive towards Riggy, insulting and guilt tripping him, openly favouring Jordan over him, Robert calling him a mistake in a Freudian Slip and Rhonda even hitting Riggy at one point. Rhonda also forces him to walk a mile while carrying heavy boxes.
- Accidental Murder: Riggy accidentally sets Lucky's factory on fire, leading to the death of Dolph, Bolph and Billy. He tried to save Billy, but wasn't able to get water in time.
- Actually Pretty Funny: Dolph seems to chuckle at Bolph saying that he can’t use his hands to tell his left from his right because he has fins.
- Aerith and Bob: The Runkey family consists of parents Robert and Rhonda, their elder son Jordan, their infant daughter Molly… and their younger son Rigmond, or Riggy for short.
- Alliterative Family: Riggy Runkey and his parents Robert and Rhonda. However, Riggy's siblings, Jordan and Molly, avert this.
- Alliterative Name: Most toons' first and last names tend to start with the same letter, Species Surname or not, including Riggy Runkey, Ruby Rabbit, Billy and Bethel Beaver, Lucky Luckington, Darius Dax Daggers and more.
- The Alleged House: Riggy's new house in Toonville was built in the same place where a tree grew, and said tree wound up taking the house with it, leaving the building stuck on some branches in the air. Crank implies that the poor arrangement of the house is why it was so cheap to buy, and says that Riggy could get something better if he pays more.
- All There in the Script: The names of several characters in the pilot are only stated in the credits, subtitles or in other sources.
- Riggy's parents' names of Robert and Rhonda are given in the Toon Turf Doodle Book.
- The kids in Blueberg are named C.B. Burgerssom Duck, Barty Beaver, Marty Mouse and Shantel Cow.
- The drug dealer fox that gives Riggy the idea to go to the Lucky Plushies factory is Darius Dax Daggers, or "D.D.D" for short.
- The mother of Timmy, the parrot who calls Riggy a freak, is Susan Parrot.
- The squirrel news anchor for LNN is Samuel Snicker and the rat news anchor is Ronan Rat (or Ronin Rat).
- Lucky’s accomplice from The Stinger is named Pauly (or Paul, but all sources that referred to him as "Paul" have since been corrected as "Pauly"), with his voice actor confirming his surname to be "Panda".
- Riggy's teacher in school is Miss Cattington.
- The security guard at Crank's shop is Carl Chihuahua.
- Always Chaotic Evil: Penguins are extremely hostile and will attack whenever someone comes near. Even Billy's pet, who is presumably domesticated, immediately bites Riggy when he sees him.
- Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: The toons are all Funny Animals of bright colours that animals in real life would not be found in.
- Animals Hate Him: Penguins seem to have it out for Riggy, with wild penguins biting him unprovoked in Toonville, and a colony of wild penguins destroying his things when he leaves them unattended for too long, with the implication that they fully knew what they were doing. Even Billy's pet penguin Copernicus, who Billy says otherwise likes everyone, bites Riggy.
- Ask a Stupid Question...: When Crank asks Riggy if his tail is a monkey tail (despite him having rabbit ears), Riggy sarcastically says "No, it’s my third arm."
- Battle Amongst the Flames: Justified. Riggy fighting by throwing dynamite, along with a sparking light that got damaged in the fight, leads to a battle taking place in a burning Lucky factory.
- Beary Funny: Berry, a large, purple bear who's goofy and incompetent.
- Big Brother Instinct: Bolph sacrifices his own opportunity to escape the factory in the midst of catching fire to help his brother get a box off his head.
- Blended Beastfolk: Riggy is a rabbit-monkey, or "runkey", with the ears of a rabbit and the tail of a monkey, and his brother Jordan is the same. Their sister Molly, however, is a "mabbit" with monkey ears and a rabbit tail. This is the result of their mother being a rabbit and their father being a monkey.
- Bumbling Henchmen Duo: The dolphins are this to Lucky. They are the ones who pack up the cotton candy filled plushies into a truck to be hauled away, but they're incompetent at their job.
- Call-Back: The title announcement parallels a similar conversation from Shorts Wars:Riggy: I’m calling it the Battle of YouTube Shorts Against The Clones That Want to Replace Us!
Danno: Too long, how about "Shorts Wars"?Riggy: I’m calling it the Shorts Wars! - Capture the Flag: The start of the pilot has Riggy play Capture the Flag with some of the kids in Blueberg, only this game is played with fireworks, and winds up devolving into a firework fight. Nobody seems to be too badly hurt from this.
- Catapult Nightmare: The pilot opens with a memory from a young Riggy in school learning about what it means to be a hero, interspersed with shots of Riggy on a murderous rampage with a bloodstained knife while everything has turned red and purple fire is burning. Riggy suddenly wakes up from the nightmare, relieved he was just dreaming.
- Chekhov's Gun: From the pilot:
- When Riggy goes to Crank's to get him to fix his house, he leaves his things in their boxes out in the open, providing the resident wild penguins the opportunity to destroy his things in his absence.
- Several relating to the fire at the Lucky's Plushies factory:
- Riggy has several sticks of dynamite with him, which he claims to have gotten from his informant, presumably D.D.D. Riggy's use of the dynamite winds up making the fire worse.
- When Riggy says that he can’t open a valve under the factory’s truck with his gloves on, Billy does it for him, only to spill gasoline on himself. Gasoline is famously an accelerant, which would make any fires a whole lot worse, not least if you got some on you…
- The fire extinguisher in the factory gets knocked out the window as Dolph and Bolph try to fight off Riggy. A fire extinguisher could have really helped with putting out the fire, and Riggy’s attempt to stop a potential fire only makes the actual fire worse.
- Child Prodigy: Riggy's brother Jordan has been a brain surgeon since he was 11, saving "hundreds [of lives] a week since the fifth grade", and is going to medical school at the start of the series.
- Chocolate-Frosted Sugar Bombs: An official piece of artwork released to the series' Twitter account depicts a "rhino sized" box of "Charmed Luckys", with the box outright having text on it reading "They'll Make You Fat BUT WHO CARES!"
- The Colored Cross: One building in the pilot has a red cross on it, though it has a blue background to make it legally distinct. Just in case of the show being Screwed by the Lawyers anyway, later episodes change it to yellow.
- Comically Missing the Point:
- Dolph sees that Riggy has heart eyes and is blushing quite intensely while staring at Ruby… and asks if this means Riggy has a concussion. A reasonable enough concern given the tumble Riggy just took, but the signs of Love at First Sight are pretty obvious.
- Tears start to fall from Ruby’s eyes after Riggy calls the Red Rabbit a "freak terrorist", not knowing that he's her father, and Riggy asks if she's laughing or crying.
- Cop Hater: Riggy is "deathly afraid of cops", being driven to a panic attack after being shot at for graffiting Crank's shop, jumping into a nearby bush to hide from Davey when he's at the Beaver household and hesitating to act when Davey arrives on the scene of the factory fire, which may have helped contribute to Billy being burned alive before Riggy could save him.
- Corrupt Corporate Executive: Lucky Luckington is the owner of several businesses around Toonville that produce all sorts of things, from cereals to sodas to plushies, and he even owns the local news, the Lucky News Network, or "LNN". The Stinger of the pilot reveals that behind closed doors, he is facilitating a drug trade by using his plushies to smuggle the drugs, and destroys the security tapes of the fire because they would be evidence of his criminal activities.
- The Corruptible: Riggy's Heroic Wannabe status is what ultimately leads to his ever growing criminal record.
- Credits Gag: Paul Panda is credited as Paul (Murderer).
- Crush Blush: Riggy blushes quite intensely to show him being in Love at First Sight with Ruby, combined with his eyes turning into hearts.
- Devious Dolphins: Dolph Dolphin is an intimidating Jerkass bully who makes derogatory remarks about Riggy for being a Mix And Match Critter and turns out to be complicit in Lucky’s drug trade at the plushie factory alongside his brother Bolph.
- Didn't Think This Through: Riggy's plan to try and stop a potential fire at the Lucky's Plushies factory? Throw an ignited plushie onto a pile of more, equally flammable plushies. Needless to say, things rapidly escalate from there.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Whatever spray painting means in Toonville, it would have to be pretty bad to justify someone shooting at Riggy for spray painting the front of Crank's shop.
- Disappeared Dad: Billy’s father died when Billy was young, leaving Bethel to take care of him by herself.
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: Parodied. Due to being a Toontown, various "adult" items are replaced with a kinder alternative. Sugarcane and cotton candy are replacements for drugs, and Apple Cider is a replacement for beer and alcohol, to the point that there are bars made just to sell it.
- Doomed by Canon:
- Riggy's romance with Ruby is set to end violently, with Riggy eventually breaking things off with her and ending up with Rosey.
- Billy's introduction in Danno's channel had established that he was dead. By the end of the pilot, what exactly happened is shown onscreen.
- One of the penguins will steal Riggy's kidney.
- Downer Ending: The pilot ends with Billy having suffered from an agonising death and Riggy left crying from his guilt over not saving him in his empty home while watching the news report covering the factory fire. The Stinger also shows Lucky deliberately destroying the security footage to cover up his own role in the drug trade and determining that Riggy will only get worse from here.
- Drives Like Crazy: Rhonda is not the best driver out there, given that she winds up bumping into one of the Blueberg kids with her car while pulling out of the driveway and running over a wild penguin without noticing. She refuses to see anything wrong with her driving. It's implied that her bad driving teaching is the reason Riggy doesn’t know how to drive a car.
- Dumb Muscle: Bolph Dolphin is large and muscular, something he is implied to be proud of when he stops what he's doing to take a shirtless selfie, but bumbles around when it comes to doing anything, not even knowing his left from his right, and has to be directed by his brother Dolph, who isn't much better himself.
- Elemental Motifs: Billy is associated with fire during the pilot, though ironically, he says he doesn’t do well with fire. Billy says that Riggy will have extra firewood if he cuts down the tree growing through his house, Bethel’s Affectionate Nickname for him is "firefly", Riggy accidentally burns Billy’s hand while lighting a candle and Billy is the one to tell Riggy about the Red Rabbit Day fireworks show. This association serves as Foreshadowing for Billy burning to death in the factory fire at the end of the pilot due to Riggy failing to save him in time.
- Exact Words: In The Stinger of the pilot, Paul tells Lucky that the police will need a valid excuse for the security footage from the factory being withheld from viewing. Lucky replies by saying that he’ll tell the truth, that the footage was destroyed, before burning the tapes himself.
- False Reassurance: After the pilot finishes, Danno yells that its ending of Riggy killing his best friend by not saving him isn't dramatic, but depressing. Riggy counters him by claiming Billy wasn't his best friend, he was his Only Friend. Riggy acknowledges that this doesn’t make it any better.
- Famed in Story: Lucky Luckington is a movie star and business owner known revered for his work, as well as supposedly spending his remaining time trying to clean up the drug and crime filled neighbouring town of Rhinonopolis. The Toonville public absolutely adore him, and even Robert and Rhonda don’t take kindly to Riggy insulting him. However, The Stinger of the pilot reveals he is actually a Corrupt Corporate Executive Villain with Good Publicity, being complicit in the drug trade going on in his plushie factory and deliberately destroying the security tapes covering the fire to cover this up.
- Fantastic Racism: Hybrids seem to be looked down on in toon society, as the citizens of Toonvile consider Riggy a freak for his monkey tail on his rabbit body.
- Fictional Slang: D.D.D calls sugarcane "(the) caine", "the green pipe" and "the funny puff", and he calls candyfloss "the (puffy) cloud".
- Foregone Conclusion: Riggy will fail at his intial goal of becoming a hero and instead end up being an infamous criminal.
- Foreshadowing:
- At the start of the pilot, Riggy sees a firework in his room and throws it out the window, where some Blueberg neighbourhood kids are gathered. One complains that Riggy almost set one of them on fire, with the kid who was almost ignited being a beaver. Later in the pilot, Riggy would wind up instigating an actual fire, and the beaver victim would not be as lucky.
- When Riggy lights a candle for Billy to see by when he looks for a saw in his house, Billy nervously says he doesn't do well with fire. This makes his death all the more painful for him.
- Foul Fox: Implied in the pilot. When Riggy says he got the information about the Lucky Plushies factory being used to smuggle drugs from a fox, Billy claims that the foxes in town are "always up to something shifty".
- Freudian Slip:
- Robert tells Riggy "I think you're a mistake," before seemingly correcting himself to say "I think you’re making a mistake" moving to Toonville.
- When Riggy meets Ruby for the first time and falls in love with her, he winds up saying "smash" before correcting himself and initially introduces himself as "Rig me".
- Funny Background Event: A darkly funny background event. The news report at the end of the pilot reveals that Timmy Parrot, the kid who had called Riggy a freak and smacked the ice cream Riggy had offered him to the ground for being the wrong flavour earlier in the episode, had drowned in the lake.
- Fun with Subtitles: The official subtitles for the pilot contain a few jokes, such as describing the last coin in Riggy's wallet falling to the ground as "broke noises", using Tradesnark™ every time a Lucky plushie is mentioned, calling the Audible Gleam of Lucky’s teeth a "trustworthy tooth sparkle", and calling Billy "Crispy Billy" as he is burning to death.
- Furry Reminder: Bolph doesn't know the difference between left and right, so Dolph tries to get him to use his hands to figure it out. Bolph responds that he has fins.
- Hated Hometown: Robert and Rhonda grew up in Toonville, but neither have many good things to say about the place, with Robert saying Riggy is making a mistake moving there and Rhonda refusing to fully drive Riggy to his new home. The best thing Robert has to say about Toonville is that it's the home of the beloved Lucky Luckington.
- Heroic Wannabe: Riggy's motivation at the start of the series was to be a hero, but this goes hand in hand with a want to be loved by people. Billy says that doing heroic things to get famous isn't the same as being a hero. Of course, Riggy's attempt at doing heroic things only winds up causing trouble, with his attempt at exposing the drug smuggling taking place at the Lucky’s Plushies factory only ending in a fire that gets his best friend killed. And it will only get worse from there.
- Iconic Attribute Adoption Moment: In the pilot, right before Riggy and Billy break into the plushie factory, Riggy puts on a pair of White Gloves to not leave fingerprints, the same style of white gloves he would continue to wear going into the present day.
- Inconsistent Spelling:
- The name of the rat news anchor for LNN has been spelt as "Ronan Rat" in the credits and "Ronin Rat" in the subtitles.
- The panda who is Lucky’s accomplice has been called "Paul" in the credits and "Pauly" in the subtitles.
- Innocently Insensitive: When Riggy describes the Red Rabbit as a "freak terrorist", Ruby starts crying and Dolph orders Riggy to leave. As Billy implies later in the pilot, the Red Rabbit who was arrested for the crime spree was Ruby's father, a fact Riggy is unaware of as of the pilot since he cut Billy off before he could clarify any further.
- Interspecies Romance:
- Robert, a monkey, and Rhonda, a rabbit, are married, and have hybrid children, two "runkeys" and one "mabbit".
- Ruby, a rabbit, and Dolph, a dolphin, are in a relationship during the pilot.
- Irony: The fire at the Lucky Plushies factory was incited by a fire extinguisher getting knocked out the window and hitting a light fixture, a spark from which hit a plushie, where everything would spiral from there.
- It All Ends in Tears: The pilot ends with Riggy crying over his guilt over not saving Billy from burning alive.
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In the pilot, Riggy wonders aloud why Dolph and Bolph Dolphin sound the exact same. The two are voiced by the same person.
- Left the Background Music On: When Riggy falls in love with Ruby at first sight, the song "My Everything" starts playing through the Crush Filter, only to cut back to the real world, where Dolph tells Ruby to turn off the radio because he hates that song.
- Mama's Boy: Billy has a very close relationship with his mother Bethel and the two love each other dearly.
- Man on Fire: The gasoline Billy wound up spilling on himself from the truck in the factory would come back to bite him, since when the factory goes up in flames, Billy gets the worst of it, being caught on fire and left in agonising pain, with Riggy failing to save him before he burns to death. Dolph and Bolph were also confirmed in the news coverage to have burnt to death in the fire.
- Medium Awareness: In the pilot, D.D.D calls out many unusual things about the world he lives in, such as surfaces looking misprinted when looked at from a different angle, characters disappearing and reappearing as though they’ve been forgotten, buildings moving around and changing design and even clothing suddenly looking different, as though "the whole world is destroying itself and then patching itself back up before anyone notices". It's not clear how much of this is the sugarcane and cotton candy talking.
- Mr. Exposition: Billy tells Riggy about the reason for the Red Rabbit Day celebration in Toonville. Riggy even thanks him for the "lore dump".
- Murder by Inaction: Riggy started the chain of events that led to the Lucky's Plushies factory going up in flames, which led to Billy being caught on fire, and Riggy failed to save him in time.
- Mysterious Watcher: After the factory fire, two figures in Lucky costumes are shown watching Riggy escape the scene, with one of them being implied to be D.D.D, the fox that gave Riggy the idea to go to the factory in the first place. Their motives are unknown as of the pilot, but given Billy’s comment about the foxes in town being up to something shady, it doesn’t bode well.
- Now, Buy the Merchandise: At the end of the pilot, upon realizing the Downer Ending likely won't help the show get funded, Riggy plugs the show's real-life merchandise.
- Outliving One's Offspring:
- Billy dies at the end of the pilot from the factory fire, leaving his mother alone.
- A darkly Funny Background Event reveals that Timmy Parrot drowned in the lake, with the news asking his mother Susan for a comment.
- Overly Long Name: The name Riggy decides to call Toon Turf is "Riggy's Dramatic/Funny Story-Drivin Slightly Mature Adventure with the Overarching Theme of Guilt and Destiny", also known as "RDFSDSMAWTOTOGAD".
- Paper People: A whole paper town! Everything from toons to buildings to food and to trees is flat with a graph paper outline.
- Saved by Canon: By the end of the series, Riggy leaves Toonville and ends up working for Danno as his mascot.
- Saw It in a Movie Once: While searching through Lucky's factory, Riggy checks under the truck because he says he'd seen it in movies before. All he finds is a gas tank, which he spills on the floor.
- The Scapegoat: Discussed. According to Billy, Randy Rabbit, apparently the infamous Red Rabbit responsible for the "worst crime spree in the history of the tooniverse", claims that he was innocent, which some people in town also believe. His daughter Ruby runs a campaign to try and get him released, and people protesting Red Rabbit Day, the celebration of his capture, is plausible enough that Davey believes Billy when he takes the blame for Riggy graffitting Crank's shop.
- Self-Deprecation: The news crawl during the news update at the end of the pilot mentions the new Toonville airport taking a while to be built, and "when asked for a release date, the only response given was 'soon', meaning we most likely won't see it for like 2 freaking years". This is likely a reference to the Development Hell Toon Turf found itself in before its release.
- Species Subversives: Chihuahuas tend to be depicted as very timid and skittish to go with their small size compared to other dog breeds. Carl Chihuahua is a large, muscular security guard confident enough to literally kick Riggy out of Crank’s Construction.
- Species Surname: Almost every toon has their species name as their surname, including Billy and Bethel Beaver, Ruby Rabbit, Dolph and Bolph Dolphin, Susan and Timmy Parrot and more.
- Spin-Off: This series serves as a prequel to the the Danno Cal Drawings
channel, where the origins of Danno's mascot Riggy are revealed, including his descent into becoming the criminal he is in the present and how the two met. - Struggling Single Mother: Bethel has raised Billy alone since his father died when he was young, but can't afford to pay for everything by herself on her schoolteacher's salary, so Billy works multiple jobs to help her.
- Subverted Kids' Show: A cute little show about Funny Animals in a Toontown, where someone accidentally kills their friend in a factory, leading to him gaining a criminal record that never stops growing.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: In the pilot, Lucky calls Riggy a "random citizen" while helping him up, despite the fact that he seemed unnerved to encounter him and "random citizen" itself came across as a Last-Second Word Swap for Riggy's name. The Stinger confirms that Lucky suspects something about Riggy and is keeping an eye on him.
- Taking the Heat: When Davey goes around questioning who graffitied the front of Crank's Construction, Billy claims it was him. Billy knows that Riggy was the culprit, and since Riggy doesn't know what graffiti means in Toonville and was also having a bit of a rough first day in town, Billy took the blame.
- Tempting Fate: Rhonda says that "absolutely nothing will go wrong" after Riggy moves to Toonville. Riggy winds up causing a fire at a factory that kills three people on his first day alone, and there is much more to come.
- Toontown: Toonville has been confirmed to take place separate from the "Real World" with Live-action humans.
- The Stinger: Two of them: a scene after the merch plug revealing Lucky’s true nature, and a sequence after the special thanks credits depicting an “RLR” counter going up to 00003.
- Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Riggy was an adorable Heroic Wannabe before becoming the Comedic Sociopath the audience knows him as in the present.
- Villain with Good Publicity: Lucky keeps his true Corrupt Corporate Executive nature a secret by hiding or destroying anything that could threaten his reputation. Due to this, the general public see him as a widely beloved celebrity.
- Virtual Assistant Blunder: In the pilot, Riggy asks his phone for directions to "Crank's Casas" to get his house fixed. This goes poorly.Riggy: Directions to Crank's Casas.
Phone: Getting directions to Prank's Pastas.
Riggy: Crank's Casas.
Phone: Pasta pastas.
Riggy: I don’t want pasta!
Phone: Ordering pasta. - White Gloves: Played straight with Lucky, who wears white gloves for unknown reasons. Justified with Riggy, who wears them while breaking into Lucky's factory to avoid leaving fingerprints.
- Wingding Eyes: Riggy’s eyes turn to hearts when he falls in Love at First Sight with Ruby, combined with a Crush Blush.
Who let toon turf get written up as a spin-off of shorts wars 💀
