Overtwatch Vs. TF2 is a Source Filmmaker animation by The Winglet, pitting the casts of Overwatch and Team Fortress 2 in a comedic team battle, chock-full of jabs and parodies of their respective mechanics and communities.
Provides examples of:
- Always Someone Better: "1" has a duel between both team's speedsters Scout and Tracer. Tracer No Sells his attacks by rewinding to an uninjured state, then headshots him.Scout: Unfair! (gets killed)
Tracer: Get stuffed! - Attack Reflector: In "1", Genji deflects Demoman's grenade with his sword, before it gets deflected back at him by Pyro's airblast. The two then continue exchanging the projectile with each other until it explodes halfway, knocking both of them out and leaving the Demoman confused.
- The Bait: When the match starts in "2", the first players to leave spawn are spycrabs: unarmed spies that simply walk around with their arms in a crab pose while spamming voicelines. While the Overwatch team is confused by what the hell's going on, the rest of the team to flank around and attack from the side.
- Bait-and-Switch Boss: In "2", after the Heavy and Medic break though a chokepoint, they find themselves engaged by the Reaper, who jumps down from the battlements and asks "Any Last Words?" as he approaches them in his Wraith form... only to then float over a vent and fall through it unceremoniously. Instead, the Medic gets hooked and thrown off the map by Roadhog, and a one-on-one fight scene between him and Heavy ensues.
- Bitch Slap: "2" has Widowmaker slap whoever selected Symmetra into picking Mercy.
- Blasting It Out of Their Hands: After Spy backstabs BOB near the end of "2", Ashe attempts to shoot him with her rifle while he's still laughing, only for the Spy to quickly turn around and shoot the gun off her hands with his revolver, forcing her to surrender.
- Commonality Connection: In 1, though initially hostile to one another, Zarya and Heavy both grow close to each other when learning that they both have Russian heritage. And the fact they both sport huge guns, of course. The two even have a Big Damn Kiss at the end of the episode, ending the battle in a tie, much to the Administrator's annoyance.Administrator: Betrayal will not be tolerated.
- Cute and Psycho: "1" plays up Mei's
Memetic Psychopath version, having left quite a few victims frozen in place as she stalks Scout. - Curb-Stomp Cushion:
- Saxton Hale is able to annihilate Winston in just one punch and make him A Twinkle in the Sky, but the gorilla still manages to tackle and briefly wrestle with him beforehand.
- After B.O.B has easily just charged throughout most of the BLU Team, an Ubered Heavy is able to stop him in his tracks by catching his hands and bracing himself. B.O.B simply removes his hands from Heavy's and throws him into a garbage can, but Heavy still prove at least almost as strong physically and was the only one to show him down during his rampage.
- Cycle of Hurting: "2" has Scout run into Junkrat's Steel Trap, Flashbanged by Cassidy, Shield Bashed by Brigitte, Hooked by Roadhog, punched by Doomfist, tranqed by Ana... and then Charged by Reinhardt.
- Death Glare:
- "2" has Winston, Orisa and D.Va give this to Sniper after he kills Mercy. It takes one look on his face to realize his impending doom before they tear him apart.
- In that same video, Pyro gives one to Mei, complete with the burning background which frightens her into using Cryo-Freeze. The protective ice around her does not last as Pyro melts it with their flamethrower, before burning her as she tries to run away.
- Designated Team Pet Fight: In "2," while Orisa and Bastion are defending the tunnel from an invasion of Scouts and a Heavy/Medic combo, Archimedes and Ganymede spot each other and duke it out. Archimedes wins the fight before getting stepped on by a passing Roadhog.
- Disney Villain Death: In "2", just as Engineer packs up his building and tries to move away, Lucio blasts him off a cliff with a Soundwave and then laughs, only to be shoved off the cliff as well by Pyro's airblast. A Heavy also meets his demise this way, when Hammond climbs down the dead Roadhog's chain and bites his finger while he's still holding onto it.
- Dope Slap: Given in "2" to an erstwhile Symmetra player, who promptly switches to Mercy.
- Foreshadowing: In one exchange in "2", Reinhardt is about to overpower a Demoknight when the latter simply draws his grenade launcher and blows him up. This is hinted at by a quick shot of his feet being forced back... which reveals he's not wearing the Wee Booties or Bootlegger, meaning he still has his grenade launcher. A particularly experienced player would also note that his sword is the Claedheamh Mor, which is the one sword to have no downsides when sheathed and is therefore a popular pick for Demoknights who favor the grenade launcher.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: Right before BOB goes to mow down the TF2 mercs upon the order to "do something", he can be seen for just a moment holding a book titled "How to Do Things".
- Foe-Tossing Charge:
- The Engineer nest in "2" is broken apart by Wrecking Ball steamrolling the turrets in Ball mode.
- As Ashe commands BOB to "do something!" he barrels right into the horde of TF2 mercs, sending all of them flying and only getting stopped by a Ubered Heavy.
- Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy: Both Widowmaker and Sniper, the Cold Sniper of each team...can't hit each other for shit! The only hit that gets landed on either of them is when he throws some Jarate at her. It still persists even in "2".
- Inertia Is a Cruel Mistress: Brigitte intercepts a charging Demoknight by simply raising her shield and letting him splat right onto it like a ragdoll.
- The Juggernaut: BOB, true to form, "does something" and blitzes the rest of the TF2 team and just casually throws even an Ubercharged Heavy in the trash. The only thing that even killed him was Spy backstabbing him after disguising himself as Ashe.
- Kevlard: At one point during the fist fight between Heavy and Roadhog, the former throws a hook into the latter's rotund belly, only for the punch to bounce off harmlessly. Roadhog shakes his head at the Heavy before resuming the fight.
- Killer Rabbit: "2" has Wrecking Ball destroy a line of Engineers and Sentries while rolling through them. After Heavy kills Roadhog and is left hanging onto his hook, Hammond climbs down the chain and bites his finger, making Heavy fall to his death.
- Literally Falling Through the Cracks: As Reaper menacingly approaches the Heavy and Medic duo in his gaseous Wraith form, he passes over a grate which he then falls through, leaving only his shotguns behind as he screams.
- Lock-and-Load Montage: "2" has Soldier:76 and Widowmaker grab their own rifles while Reaper grabs a huge crate of shotguns which he strains to pick up.
- Makes Us Even: "2" has Pharah pay Soldier back for slamming her into the ground in 1.
- Mid-Battle Tea Break: "2" has Roadhog and Heavy fight, though in the middle they stop to regain their health with Roadhog huffing his gas and Heavy having his Sandvich before going for another round.
- Mood Whiplash:
- "1" has D.Va suddenly pull a revolver on Tracer and shoot her in the head, killing her before revealing herself to be a Spy in disguise.
- In "1", while Winston manhandles Heavy and carries him off-screen, leaving their respective healing partners Mercy and Medic alone. Mercy attempts to strike a casual conversation with a simple "hello." The Medic's response is to threateningly grab her by her collar and exclaim, "I healed zhe man who vill kill you!"
- More Dakka: Both sides have their own versions of this that work for and against them.
- "1" has Torbjorn can set up turrets, but in the time it takes for him to set up ONE turret, three Engineers have already set up Level 3 sentries that mow him down. Another scene has Heavy charging at Bastion and is ready to mow him down, but he picked that day of all days to pick the Brass Beast, which has a slow wind-up time. Bastion immediately goes to turret mode and blasts him apart.
- "2" has Orisa and Bastion mowing down waves of Scouts, only broken up once Spy saps them.
- Mythology Gag: In 1, the Scout knocks out Soldier: 76 with the butt of his scattergun, just like the latter does in one of OW's pre-release trailers against an enemy goon.
- Power Nullifier: Sombra's Hack ability, like in Overwatch, disables some of the Team Fortress mercenaries' abilities.
- In "1", Spy's disguise kit gets hacked by Sombra, leaving him unable to disguise or turn invisible as he runs to his team's backlines crying.
- "2" has Sombra hack a Demoman mid-charge, causing him to trip and ragdoll across the battlefield.
- Pyrrhic Victory: In "2", Heavy's victory against Roadhog turns into this. Heavy wraps Roadhog's chain around his neck and jumps off the cliff, breaking Roadhog's neck to kill him, but now Heavy is stuck hanging on for dear life. Hammond climbs down the chain and bites Heavy's finger, making him let go and fall to his death.
- Shout-Out: In 2, the BLU Heavy is prepared to stop B.O.B. from rampaging further by standing in his way preparing to intercept him while Ubered, a nod to the SFM short film End of the Line. B.O.B. gets around this by simply stopping and picking up the Heavy to throw him into a garbage bin.
- Shovel Strike: "1" has Soldier rocket-jump to Pharah and slam her down to the ground with his shovel (specifically the Market Gardener, which is designed for this).
- Something We Forgot: "2" has Spy holding Ashe dead to rights until she points out... they never moved the payload.Spy: Hahahaha! Yes! Victory is ours!
Ashe: Payload's not moving.
Spy: Ha ha— Oh.
(it then cuts to the payload, still sitting at the first point in front of BLU team's spawn)
Spy: FUCK! - Team Killer: "1" has Demo and Junkrat taking a break from the fight and knocking back some drinks. Demo lets Junkrat have the trigger to his bomb and presses it, which takes out Reinhardt and nearly kills Bastion on the payload.
- A Twinkle in the Sky:
- In "1", even Winston being in Primal Rage means nothing to Saxton Hale as he just punches him into orbit. It's enough to make even Doomfist pull a Screw This, I'm Outta Here.
- "2" has Spy about to backstab Brigitte until he makes the mistake of stepping on a can. She turns around and smacks him around until he's flying into orbit... and smacks into Winston.
- Unwanted Assistance: In "2", Ana readies a Nanoboost for Roadhog who's locked in combat with Heavy, only for Lucio, who's passing by, to receive it instead.
- Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: The Play of the Game in "2" has the showcased Engineer dying within the first few seconds to a bear trap, before the sentry kills multiple people while the Engineer is still dead.
- The Worf Effect:
- "1" shows a quick brawl between Winston under Primal Rage and Saxton Hale. As the former briefly wrestles with the latter, Hale breaks free and then sends the gorilla back into space in a single punch with his bare fists. Doomfist, who had witnessed this fight (and had lost to Winston in Overwatch lore), decides to back away.
- "2" also shows an Ubercharged Heavy going up against BOB near the end. The Heavy manages to stop the Omnic butler's charge, only to be grabbed and then tossed into a trash bin before his Medic buddy gets thrown off a cliff as well. Shortly after that, Ashe standing beside BOB, praises him as she gives him a pat on the shoulder... before BOB falls over with a knife in his back as Spy laughs.
