Oddshow

Go To

Oddshow is a series of sprite animations by DoujinPixation on YouTube that showcases characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros. series engaging in wacky (and frequently painful) hijinks throughout numerous skits and scenes. There's no plot to speak of and No Continuity — the whole thing is just a madcap exercise in watching characters goofing around and getting hurt.

Oddshow contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Deviation: A few shorts from the early episodes were significantly changed for the HD Remix versions.
    • "Riding the Beetle Bot" originally had the Indiana Jones theme playing while Sonic was riding the Motobug. It was replaced in the remake most likely for legal reasons.
    • A Capsule Chaos Relict" originally had Sonic suddenly grow giant until he becomes bigger then Angel Island. The remake changes this to a Cluckoid dropping in and blowing Sonic away.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Super Mario Oddshow, which takes place in Mario's universe instead of Sonic's universe.
  • April Fools' Day: Starting in 2015, low effort versions/modifications of existing Oddshows would be released, under the name Oddsh*t. As of 2026, Oddsh*ts have been made for all four Sonic Oddshows, as well as Super Mario Oddshow 1 and 2.
  • Butt-Monkey: Everyone, but there are a few standout examples.
    • Mario and Sonic make frequent cameo appearances in each other's Oddshows, and most of those cameos end with the foreign character meeting grievous misfortune.
    • Charmy is immediately thrown out of Final Fall in Sonic Oddshow 2 (in HD Remix. He just flies away in the original version)note , and while he's actually allowed to participate in Final Chaos in Sonic Oddshow K, he gets squished and KO'd within the first few seconds of the chase.
    • If there's a skit involving Sonic and his friends fighting against the undead, expect Knuckles to always get the short end of the stick.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: Again, everyone, but Shadow is especially prone to smacking around the other characters for absolutely no reason (and usually getting away with it).
  • Diabolus ex Machina: How many skits appear to end with one or more characters emerging from the chaos unscathed, only to get abruptly smacked down by a straggling hazard? Way too many to count.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Aside from the early episodes prior to Sonic Oddshow 3 not being in widescreen and having lower quality audio, Mario initially had a slightly different palette prior to the first Super Mario Oddshow.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: This crops up in a few skits — sometimes as what sets off the catastrophe, other times as the punchline.
  • Frame Break: Before Sonic Oddshow HD Remix begins, Sonic pushes the borders of the screen from the old 4:3 aspect ratio to the modern 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • Free-Fall Fight: The final skit of Sonic Oddshow 2, "Final Fall", has (almost) everyone fighting against each other while they fall from a great height, later falling upwards towards the other side of the world as they pass a core within Lava Reef.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: In Sonic Oddshow 2 HD Remix, the exclusive skit "A Night in The Casino" has Tails poke Knuckles down into a pinball-like area in Carnival Night Zone. At the end of the skit, Knuckles ends up colliding with Tails while he's bouncing around uncontrollably.
  • Sadist Show: The whole premise is the cast of the Sonic and Mario series getting caught up in wacky situations that more often than not end with them getting pulverized.
  • Series Fauxnale:
    • Sonic Oddshow 3 & K Ultimate Remix was intended to serve as the finale not just for the series, but also for the DoujinPixation channel as a whole. In 2025, DoujinPixation returned to the channel and would begin making animations again, later announcing a few months later that Super Mario Oddshow 3 had resumed production and that more Oddshows were on the way.
    • Similarly, Sonic Oddsh*t 3 & 'Kay was intended to be the end of the Oddsh*t series in 2019. Following the revival of the DoujinPixation channel in 2025, the first new entry of the series in 7 years, Super Mario Oddsh*t 2, would be released on April Fools' Day 2026.

After the credits of Sonic Oddshow 2, there's a bonus skit that features Mario shortly after the events of the "Final Fall" getting beaten up to the tune of the Can-can, which is expanded in the HD Remix version of the skit to have a variety of things happen to Mario.

How well does it match the trope?
