HIM is a Minecraft Cosmic Horror Story Web Animation by Marcus Yu.

It follows an unnamed weapon-smith who, after a terrifying encounter with a floating corpse, ends up uncovering an Ancient Evil that has haunted the world for centuries.

HIM provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Villagers in Minecraft are completely defenseless, relying on the iron golems for protection and running away from any type of threat. In HIM the villagers are more capable of fighting, as shown with the weapons-smith who carries a dagger with him and tries to fight Herobrine with an enchanted sword. Even the cartographer is shown throwing hatchets to distract it!
  • Adaptational Abomination: Herobrine was always a terrifying entity, but here he is presented as an Ancient Evil whose vessels become terrifying monstrosities and is omnipresent.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: After putting down Masha, Herobrine takes over the weapon-smith as a vessel.
  • Ax-Crazy: Whether sapient or not, Herobrine is a cruel, vicious entity that slaughters the whole village at the end of the story.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The weapon-smith never truly had a chance. Herobrine is a borderline omnipresent entity, ensuring any attempts to kill it will be in vain.
  • Cosmic Horror Story: How Herobrine is treated in this story. An unstoppable and omnipresent entity that the hero had no hope of defeating.
  • Downer Ending: Herobrine successfully slaughters the village and takes the weapons-smith as a new vessel.
  • Fate Worse than Death: For the past five years, Masha has been used as a vessel by Herobrine. The weapon-smith finally killing her in the end is treated as a Mercy Kill.
  • No Name Given: None of the characters are named, instead they are referred to by their occupations. The only aversion is with the cartrographer's apprentice, Masha.
  • Sadist: We don't get much of Herobrine's personality, but he really seems to enjoy tormenting the weapons-smith.
  • Wham Shot: When the cleric turns around, his robe bears the same insignia found in Masha's journal of Herobrine.
