- Tyler: Girls love you, whole of America loves you and frankly, there is hardly any working included!
You: Hope you are right, buddy. Hope you're right…
World War Polygon: WW2 Shooter is a First-Person Shooter developed by Czech company Alda Games, released for the iOS and Android set in World War II... but unlike the usual photorealistic graphics seen in your typical Medal of Honor and Call of Duty clone, it runs entirely on Polygonal Graphics.
In an alternate (and highly fictionalized and blockified) version of May 1941, the unnamed player protagonist, a young G.I, alongside his bestie Private Tyler, finished their basic military training in Fort MacArthur, California, and was subsequently sent to the coast of Normandy in the outbreak of World War II in a series of missions leading through the warzones of Europe, ranging from D-Day to the Battle of Bulge and the Battle of Stalingrad.
Meanwhile, in a top-secret Nazi research facility in Leningrad, Vitaly Pavlov, a Russian sergeant held in German captivity, escapes his cell while uncovering a covert Nazi plan capable of annihilating the entirety of Europe…
Tyler: Yeah man, I can't wait to be a soldier!
- Absurdly Spacious Sewer: There's one below Stalingrad that twists and turns like a maze, that Vitaly needs to navigate around while swapping lead against Germans to reach a German tractor plant at the exit.
- And Now for Someone Completely Different: The first few stages see the player assuming the role of an unnamed American GI, until the first Stalingard stage after Herr Kreuz's introduction where the player controls an escaped Russian soldier named Vitaly Pavlov. The game then shifts around, between the player and Vitaly, a few times.
- And This Is for...: After defeating the Final Boss, Herr Kreuz, who's ejected out of his war machine, you and Vitaly approaches the Nazi leader, machine-guns at ready.
- Anti-Air: More than one mission requires your character (the GI, or Vitaly) to capture AA-Guns and use them to blast bomber planes and enemy fighters out of the skies. Notably the mission where the Allies captures a German-owned airport and uses their own cannons against them as well as when Vitaly defends Stalingrad from a bombing.
- Angry Guard Dog: Occasionally, the Germans will sic attack dogs on the players. Who can somehow continue running and biting after absorbing a dozen Tommy-gun rounds at close range. Vitaly took down a lot of hounds during the Stalingrad campaign.
- Argentina Is Nazi-Land: In the final stage, as Herr Kreuz taunts the player GI and Vitaly before his boss fight, it turns out he had a secret backup base in Argentina. Just... because. You: You have nowhere to go. The empire will be beaten in no time.
Kreuz: NEVER! You will never get me! I will shred you into pieces and fly to my new home in Argentina! - Assist Character:
- Your fellow GI as well as Tyler in the Normandy and Omaha stages does pretty well helping you gun down enemy Germans.
- As does the Russian resistance backing up Vitaly in Stalingrad.
- In the Ardennes facility, Dr. Zweistein did a pretty decent job assisting you with a pistol.
- Attack Hello: The cutscene depicting your first meeting with Vitaly has both of you punching exchanging fists after mistaking each other to be an enemy. But when several Germans approaches, both of you start shooting at the same directions, at which point Vitaly realize you're on the same side.Vitaly: What are you doing here, American?
You: I followed one of the Nazi leaders, Kreuz, and I'm here to kill him.
Vitaly: What? Kreuz? I know that bastard well... too well. - Big "NO!": The game loves doing this, in more than one cutscene... both from the player protagonist, and Vitaly.
- When your closest friend, Tyler, gets pumped full of lead by Herr Kreuz' men as he pushes you out of the way.
You: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!- Vitaly, as Sasha expires in his arms courtesy of being shot by a retreating Kreuz, combined with a Skyward Scream.
Vitaly: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! - Bling-Bling-BANG!: You can obtain a StG 44 Gold-plated machine-gun.
- Blood-Stained Glass Windows: Captain Nazi is fought in a church, and will escape to higher ledges while trying to take potshots at you requiring you to take cover between the remaining pews.
- Bottomless Magazines: Whenever the player GI or Vitaly finds a mounted Browning machine-gun, allowing them to More Dakka their way through every onscreen enemy. Though they're unable to move and/or take cover while doing so.
- Camera Abuse: Blood, grime, dust and assorted debris tends to hit the lens every now and then, especially in the trench levels.
- Cold-Blooded Torture: The cutscene before Stalingrad has the Nazi leader and Torture Technician Herr Kreuz interrogating the captured Russian, Vitaly Pavlov, by shoving a burning-hot iron spike into Vitaly's shoulders. And leaves it sticking there as one of his men approaches him. In a same room where multiple dead Russians are hanging on meat-hooks, no less...
- Corrupted Character Copy: The first boss, Captain Nazi, is a German Super-Soldier armed exclusively with a bulletproof shield with a black swastika on it that he uses for shield bashing against the Allies - including you. You can probably picture Steve Rogers banging his head against a wall somewhere...
- Distressed Dude:
- In the Omaha stage, you meet your contact, a private around your age named Ryan wounded by a German bayonet with his guts bleeding out, requiring you to find a medipack and save him.
- A later stage in the Ardennes has an Allied soldier bleeding out in a cabin, and you can try saving him. He bleeds out either ways.
- Vitaly is introduced as a captive being tortured by Herr Kreuz, but it doesn't take long for him to escape on his own.
- Fire-Breathing Weapon:
- The Ardennes facility Super-Soldier boss has flamethrowers built in his arms. His flamethrower tank is his sole weak spot - the Coup de Grâce Cutscene sees you jumping behind the boss' back and pulling the fuel plug, leading to a very lethal Flamethrower Backfire.
- In several later stages regular Germans armed with flamethrowers starts showing up.
- Fisticuffs Boss: The first half of the Captain Nazi fight has the boss performing a Neck Lift on you, preventing you from shooting back. You'll need to target certain weak spots on Captain Nazi with your fists and punch him enough (or suffer damage), at which point Tyler backs you up by plugging a few rounds into the boss. Then you grab your gun and the game goes back to a FPS.
- Giant Mook: German tanks are somehow treated as such in the game - larger-than-average enemies who takes more damage than regular soldiers, but far less mobile and unable to enter trenches. Both you and Vitaly can take them out with concentrated fire or find bazookas and blow them apart.
- Hold the Line: More than one stage requires you or Vitaly to fend off hordes and hordes of invading Germans while a timer counts down, to prevent the enemy army from capturing key checkpoints or crossing into your trenches.
- Incredibly Durable Enemies: The game starts with low-level German grunts that goes down as easily as any typical World War 2-themed FPS, before sending in Wehrmacht sergeants and colonels - those Nazi wearing white uniforms in the facility stages (appropriately identified by the game as "Elite Soldat") can soak an entire magazine and keep fighting. Justified since the Nazi are secretly running a Super-Soldier project.
- It's Personal: Both you and Vitaly have a grudge against Herr Kreuz, the villain responsible for killing your bestie Tyler and shooting Vitaly's fiancée Sasha.
- Justified Tutorial: The first stage is a military camp for G.I.s that depicts you finishing your last stages of training before being sent to the front lines, like a real-life soldier would. It includes a simulation in the trenches and a Shooting Gallery.
- Kidnapped Scientist: Dr. Albert Zweistein is held captive in a cell within the Nazi's Ardennes facility, that you release and finds out from him that the Nazi are forcing him to create new rockets. Despite his predicament, Albert is still in the mood to crack a joke:Albert: I told them that they shouldn't use my rocker to destroy London! It would kill millions of civilians!
You: Shit, is it that strong? When will it launch?
Albert: Ten.
You: Years? Months? Days?
Albert: Nine.
You: WHAT???
Albert: Sorry, I'm just kidding. But sadly, the rocket will launch today! Unless some brave hero sabotages it! - The Lancer: You start the game with your bunk-mate, fellow training partner and bestie, Tyler who is the Bucky Barnes to your Steve Rogers... but Tyler becomes a Dead Sidekick immediately after the first boss fight and Herr Kreuz' debut as he performs a Taking the Bullet for you while Kreuz orders his men to fire away. Unlike Bucky, he's not coming back.
- Lodged-Blade Recycling: Vitaly is introduced being tortured by Herr Kreuz, with a burning-hot poker shoved through his shoulders and left for dead as Kreuz leaves the room to meet another Nazi Commandant. But Vitaly is still conscious, breaking free from his restraints soon-after and pulls the poker out to impale a German guard before stealing the latter's machine-gun and shooting his way out.
- The Lost Lenore: Vitaly's fiancée Sasha is a rough-and-tough female soldier who fought along him in the frontlines, but she dies after two stages; after Vitaly took out the supertank and she runs into his arms in the cutscene, Herr Kreuz suddenly shoots her In the Back before leaving. Cue Vitaly swearing It's Personal with the Nazi colonel. Subverted when it's revealed via dialogue in the last cutscene that she's still alive since Russians are hard to kill.
- Mini-Mecha: Kreuz, as the Final Boss, pilots a two-storey tall mecha absolutely brimming with weaponry to take down Vitaly and the GI.
- Mother Russia Makes You Strong: Vitaly lampshades the hell out of this trope when he meets you the first time, about to take on legions of Germans.Vitaly: Let's get revenge together then, comrade.
You: I'm in, but watch out, my mates always die.
Vitaly: I'm Russian. I won't. - Nazi Zombies: Outside the main campaigns, there's an optional Episode of the Dead side-stage where you control an unnamed Allied soldier (that's not the same guy you've been controlling up to this point) defending a cabin from hordes and hordes of Nazi zombies (who's even called Nazi zombies in-game!) - they behave like every typical video game zombie, simply shambling around in large numbers trying to chew you up, but clad in tattered German uniforms.
- New Work, Recycled Graphics: The Nazi zombies in the cabin level are recycled from Alda Games' previous output, The Walking Zombie 2. The attack dogs in the Stalingrad stage are also modified sprites from the undead canines from the other game (except, you know, not undead).
- Powered Armor: The Ardennes missile facility's boss is another Super-Soldier, clad entirely in full-body armor with flamethrowers built in both arms.
- Red Shirt Army: Do NOT expect the AI-controlled Allied and Russian troops to last long in campaigns. If you start the stage as part of a squad and made it to the end of each stage, they won't.
- Revenge Before Reason: To avenge his fiancée Sasha, Vitaly doesn't hesitate simply marching into the gates of Berlin, and shooting away at every German in his way.
- Sniping Mission:
- There are several stages that requires you and/or Vitaly to obtain a Sniper Rifle and stay put within an area, to snipe incoming Germans and prevent them from breaching a point of defense.
- The first time you play as Vitaly, there's an area where he set up scope atop a bombed-out Stalingard building and snipe at Germans from vantage point, and another later one where you clean up a trench full of Germans via sniper.
- Step One: Escape: For Vitaly Pavlov anyways. His debut sees him restrained and tortured by Herr Kreuz in a bunker full of Germans, and the first stage players control him is an escape into the streets.
- Storming the Beaches: The very first stage is set in the beaches of Normandy, during D-Day. You and your Allies take cover behind Metal Hedgehogs and snipe Germans hiding in pillboxes, but risks getting caught in crossfire. A much later stage after the capture of Normandy inverts this - now you are holed up in a pillbox, and shooting at Germans trying to cross a beach.
- Stupid Jetpack Hitler: The game's version of Germany has super-soldiers, supertanks, nukes, and... zombies?
- Super-Soldier: Herr Kreuz are leading the Nazi in developing their own experimental soldier program, meant to create warriors with superhuman abilities, with Captain Nazi as the first successful product.
- Tank Goodness: The second boss (first fought by Vitaly) is the Nazi superweapon, a building-sized supertank based on the Landkreuzer P-1000 Ratte that takes damage like no tomorrow. Vitaly's machine-guns deals Scratch Damage on it, and he can only take it down by running around the arena and collecting enough rockets to get the job done.
- Urban Warfare: The bombed out-cities of Omaha, Stalingrad, Berlin and various stages based on real-life conflicts from the second World War.
- You Monster!: When Vitaly confronts Herr Kreuz after the Stalingard siege. Not even some imaginary superweapon could help you now, you monster!
