The Lingo Show - Big Bug Show or just The Lingo Show or Big Bug Show was a 2011 Flash Video Game which was designed to teach young children a variety of foreign languages. The game was developed by Nicole Seymour for the CBeebies website, the characters where designed by Kate Sullivan.
Due to the game's massive success at the time, the show received a cartoon adaptation for the CBeebies channel in 2012.
The game follows Lingo, the ringmaster of the show, preparing for a performance with one of the nine bugs of his trope, each with their own assigned language.
The game was removed from the CBeebies website in 2021, following the retirement of Adobe Flash Player, which the game ran on. Thankfully, however, the game has recently been recovered and can be played (via the Ruffle emulator) here
, though please note that only Kikli's assets have been recovered. All other bugs' assets have yet to be recovered.
Big Bug Show provides examples of:
- Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Blodwen just wears a hat, and Wei wears his trademark helmet and roller skates.
- All There in the Manual: Here is a forum on the CBeebies grown-ups forum that was created for the minisite that talks about how it functions, its features, and its characters.
- Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Look at the colours of those bugs!
- Bubblegum Popping: One of Wei's animations consisted of him blowing a bubble of gum nearly the size of him, which would then burst.
- French Accordion: An accordion was heard in Jargonaise's character jingle if she was picked by the player.
- Levitating Lotus Position: Kikli will sometimes do this. When she does so, her character jingle can be heard.
- Sinking Ship Scenario: Though no animations have been recovered and no footage of gameplay is known to have been published of her, one of Subah's animations saw her pulling a saluting gesture sailor-style before slowly sinking into her shell, a clear parody of this trope.
- Mirrors of Vanity: Though the animations have not been recovered yet, one of Jargonaise's animations had her holding a compact and making a kissy face at her reflection.
