The Bauble Factory

Go To

The Bauble Factory is a Scratch game created by WoompaDoop.

The basic gameplay revolves around using machines to create baubles that you can then sell for money. You can also buy upgrades to make the machines go faster or to make them run automatically.

The game can be played here. The second version, which includes upgraded graphics and a new bauble storage mechanic, can be played here.

Tropes featured in The Bauble Factory:

  • Art-Shifted Sequel: The first game is done in a pixellated art style. The second game is done using a rounder, softer art style.
  • Cap: In the second game, a feature is introduced where you have a limit as to how many baubles you can store at once before you have to sell them. This limit starts at 10, but can be increased with upgrades, maxing out at 1000 baubles.
  • Easter Egg: Occasionally, the baubles will have minor cosmetic changes to them at random that have no effect on gameplay. In the second game, these are referred to in the code as "botched" baubles:
    • The red baubles become cubes.
    • The green baubles have Creeper faces on them.
    • The blue baubles have smiley faces on them.
    • The yellow baubles have holes in them.
    • The orange baubles have glowing orange rings around them.
    • The purple baubles have eyes on them.
    • The cyan baubles have a message saying "HI" on them.
    • The magenta baubles become larger. In the second game, this is changed to them becoming deformed.
    • The multi-coloured baubles get stuck in clusters. This is only in the second game; the multi-coloured baubles have no deformities in the first game.
  • Logo Joke: The second game starts out with the original pixellated WoompaDoop logo. After it barks, the logo shakes and becomes a rounder, softer version of the logo fitting the second game's new art style.
  • No Fair Cheating: The second game will know if you are playing it with Turbo Mode on, and will put a red screen over the entire game if you are, preventing you from playing until you turn it off.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: There is no real plot to the game. The only semblance of a plot in either version is at the end of the second version, where you get a certificate after buying all of the upgrades.
  • Public Domain Soundtrack: The only song used in both games is Kevin Macleod's song "The Cannery", fitting the factory theme.
  • Shout-Out: Sometimes, the green baubles will have the face of a Creeper from Minecraft on them.
  • Thanking the Viewer: After you buy all of the upgrades in the second game, the certificate you receive congratulates you and thanks you for playing the game.
  • Truly Endless Game: Aside from the certificate you get for buying everything in the second game, there's not really anything to indicate that there is an end to either game. The only way to end the game is to quit.
