The sound of gunfire can only mean that the QUARTET is engaged in another of their many fierce battles.
"If you hate aliens, you'll love Quartet! You see, space colony Number Nine is being threatened by an invasion of the most dangerous kind."
Quartet is a 1986 arcade video game, set in a futuristic world where a base was taken over by an army of hostile robots and it is up to the eponymous quartet of main characters to infiltrate the place and destroy the robots occupying it.— Back of the Sega Master System version's box
It received an Updated Re-release, Quartet 2, as a two player arcade cabinet, as well as a port to the Sega Master System where it lacked two of the guys, leading to it being retitled Double Target in Japan.
Not to be confused with the film of the same name.
This game provides examples of:
- Adapted Out: Lee and Joe were removed from the Sega Master System version, which resulted in the game being retitled Double Target in Japan.
- American Kirby Is Hardcore: Western material redesigns the main cast to resemble a comic book style.
- Artifact Title: The Sega Master System version of Quartet retains the arcade version's title in English despite having only half the cast. The Japanese version goes with Double Target instead.
- Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Mary's top exposes her belly and is the sole female member of the main cast.
- Blue Is Heroic: Lee dresses in blue and is one of the heroes determined to reclaim the base.
- Depending on the Artist: Mary is depicted either with black hair that passes her shoulders, medium-length hair, or her hair cut into a bob. Her midriff is either bared or covered.
- Long Hair Is Feminine: Mary is sometimes drawn with waist-length hair and is the only girl on the team.
- Mecha-Mooks: The main cast lead a fight against a robotic army to reclaim the base they have overtaken.
- Parental Abandonment: When Mary was younger, her parents were killed in a Space Pirate assault.
- Red Is Heroic: Mary dresses in red and is out to help her fellows (or just Edgar in the Sega Master System version) reclaim the base from the hostile robots.
- Sci-Fi Bob Haircut: Mary is sometimes drawn with her hair cut into a bob and is part of a futuristic setting where she and her fellows must destroy the robots that took over a base. This includes artwork on the Sega Ages release.
- Smurfette Principle: Mary is the sole female member of a mostly male cast. When the game was stripped down for the Sega Master System, it instead became a Gender-Equal Ensemble due to two of the guys being cut.
- Token Minority: Edgar is the only dark skinned man out of a cast of otherwise white characters.
