New Arc Line is an isometric turn-based Role-Playing Game developed by Ukrainian studio Dreamate and published by Fulqrum Publishing. Inspired by the Gothic games, it was released into Steam Early Access on November 26, 2024.
You are a newcomer to the floating city of New Arc, a shining, prosperous city full of mechanical wonders, in search for a cure for your family's mysterious ailment. However, underneath the facade of the shining city, tensions run deep; apart from segregation, inequality, and corruption, the city also has a conflict between the machinists, who believe in the power of progress and technology, and the sorcerors, who believe in the power of magic and nature.
New Arc Line has examples of the following tropes:
- Achievement Mockery: "Not Your Day" is awarded if the player fails three consecutive skill checks.
- Crapsaccharine World: Underneath the shiny exterior of New Arc lies a hotbed of inequality, resentment, and conflict.
- Dangerously Distracted: You meet Mick Mortinsen for the first time while he's fighting against Grotwyr the Crusher; although he had come to the pier to receive you on behalf of Mr. Simon, he was participating in a fight to pass the time. As you approach the fighting arena, Mick sees you and waves towards you; unfortunately, this allows Grotwyr to land a decisive blow, knocking him out. This leads to Mick losing and thus going into debt to Ernie the bookmaker, requiring you to raise money to pay them off.
- How We Got Here: The game opens with the player waking up in the aftermath of a disaster that has destroyed New Arc, before flashing back to them entering the city.
- The Magic Versus Technology War: The magical sorcerors stand in opposition to the technological mechanists: the former accuse the latter of having poisoned the planet with the smoke from their machines, while the latter accuse the former of wanting to emulate the tyrannical sorcerors of old and halt progress.
- Prima Donna Director: Richard Maxwell Gracefield Parrise III is a famous play director who immediately recruits the PC and Mick to find his actors. He is said by the dwarf mechanic to have not even looked at him when the former tried to talk to him.
