HYBRIS - Pulse of Ruin

Go To

Hybris - Pulse of Ruin is a game created by the Swiss author Lucien Krebs, or simply known as Lucien3.

It had been released as Hybris and Hybris Rebirth for free, but only in German, but now has a commercial two-language version.

Kiro is a hunter tasked with protecting a pure woman in the name of the Centrum. But an incident causes him to bring her into the Outside World. And now he has to survive while being hunted by the rebels who want the woman and the Centrum, as bringing a Pure into the Outside World is considered treason by the Centrum's leaders.

Embark on a journey about finding strength to stand up to challenge your destiny and discover a purpose beyond survival. Experience a deep story in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world. Enjoy an epic RPG with an innovative turn-based battle system.

Has a Steam page here.

This game makes use of the following tropes:

  • Aerith and Bob: There are Fantasy names like Zaide, Venas or Marbuel, but also normal names like Evan, Amelia or Ernest.
  • After the End: The work takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting.
  • Anyone Can Die: Don't get too attached to any character. Kiro and Saia may be very well the only characters guaranted to survive the story.
  • Canon Immigrant: A good number of characters didn't exist in the main "Hybris".
  • Crapsack World: The Outside World isn't a safe place to live in.
  • Fantastic Racism: Condemn any Pulse user as someone to be disposed.
  • Grey-and-Gray Morality: Most villains have sympathetic reasoning for what they are. Only a handful of them are truly wicked individuals.
  • He Knows About Timed Hits: Early demos of "Hybris - Rebirth" had the game mechanics explained during Kiro and Evan's dialogues. Averted later, as a community member told the author that it breaks the game flow and make the tutorial separately from the story.
  • Jerkass Gods: Has three Gods ruling above both worlds.
  • Uncanny Valley: A lot of Pulse of Ruin is much creepier, since the characters are in 3D-style staring like zombies, rather than the Animesque style from the first two versions.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Most higher ranking tier people would refer to hunters "hunter scum".
