Who wouldn’t like to have a fireplace at home?
Fireplacing, known as My Fire Place in European markets, is a virtual fireplace one would be able to buy from the WiiWare shop while it still had its own fire going. The player was asked if they would want a fireplace at home and this was one game they could experience it in. The player would stuff wood into the fireplace, ignite the fire, and stoke the flames or can turn on the option to activate the fireplace automatically while they have dinner with families, celebrate parties with friends, or eat with the person they've been partnered with during any occasion they do so by their Wii or Wii U. Other things to do while having Fireplacing on is playing a game, using your computer, or reading books. The holiday decorations also suggest the game is set around Christmas. The option to buy and download the game ceased when the WiiWare shop channel shut down on January 30, 2019, nearly ten years after the game has released. But players can still use the game if it's still downloaded or seek out animations of a fireplace in absence of it to display on the web. Hudson Soft created a similar fireplace-tending game called Cozy Fire which was also on the Wiiware shop before it went under.
Tropes fuelling Fireplacing include:
- Cardiovascular Love: The "Romantic" variation of the fireplace is accompanied by a heart which implies the player character is accompanied by their significant other.
- Christmas Episode: The pressence of holiday ornaments imply the game to be set around Christmas time.
- Excuse Plot: All you have is getting a fire going with it being functionally a screensaver for your Wii.
- Featureless Protagonist: The game is entirely in first person and you never get to see a mirror.
- Fire of Comfort: The game involves turning on the fireplace with the intent of relaxing the player.
- Minimalist Cast: There are no characters aside from the player and the narrator providing instructions.
- No Antagonist: The player has no sort of nemesis and all would matter is getting a fire going.
- No Ending: The game just plays until the player decides to quit.
- No Name Given: Neither the player nor the narrator were named at all.
- No Plot? No Problem!: The game has no real plot in it aside from getting a fire going. Though whether or not the game succeeds without plot is a different story entirely.
