Drag Racer (Video Game)
Drag Racer is a Flash video game by Phantom Games where you customize a vast variety of cars to store in your garage and use them in drag strips around the world. You can customize your car to various degrees and make it a literal machine of speed, go to tournaments and win cars and more credits, put your ride in a car show to be rated and win more credits, and you can get richer from there. The game runs on Career or Arcade mode.

Its current version, Drag Racer V3, was posted to Newgrounds on April 4, 2004 and was even on the front page for a year.

Tropes in Drag Racer

  • Artistic License โ€“ Cars: Your car will sound the same no matter what upgrades you use.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Your car even if its tuned right, it can still fail you on the drag strip.
  • Battle in the Rain: The weather is overcast and the drag strip is soaked with rain, as seen on the picture in Arcade mode of where you are, and on the side picture of the drag strip during a race.
  • Cool Car: Any car you have. You can turn it into a deadly dragster.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The judges when you submit your car to the Car Show are usually dismissive and will be sarcastic towards you.
  • Every Car Is a Pinto: Your engine can overheat too quickly if you forget to shift right, and no amount of upgrades can protect you.
  • Joke Item: You can buy a TV, DVD player, and a game console for your car which doesnโ€™t seem to do anything or provide much merit.
  • The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard: When racing for pink slips, the other opponent will be an overpowered version of the same car when challenging them to a wager race, but even when using a fast car, your opponent will jolt forward ahead of you.
  • What a Piece of Junk: Your car, no matter how old it may be, can be customized to become a NASA rocket on wheels.
