Defense Witches

Go To

Defense Witches is a free iPhone Strategy Game created by NEWGATE. It focuses on multiple witches of varying personalities and powers, dedicated to saving a crystal tower from the likes of evil. The game play is fairly simple. You are given witches as the story progresses, staring with "Speed Star" Daisy, "Long Rage" Becky, and "Any Direction" Chloe.

Through careful placement on any available squares, the witches will automatically attack the monsters coming in their direction. With enough MP built up from killing the monsters, you can upgrade your witches and better defend the tower before it falls from 20 HP to 0. As you go along, more witches are introduced, most through humorous manga strips that often give hints and tell the rest of the story.

This game provides examples of:

  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Flare is the mother of Tiana and has the same youthful, cutesy appearance as the other witches, only with a more womanly figure.
  • Big Bad: Cornet, who used to be an evil queen until losing her power and being turned into a child. She mostly seems like a bratty kid but takes down 5 HP if she gets near the crystal.
  • Blow You Away: Chiara and Lyra perform "anti-air" attacks on any enemies that are airborne.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Cornet is a demon that looks like a small girl with a kitten on her head.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Most of the outfits tend to steer into this but Cornet and Becky are the most notable on the "Gothic" aspect.
  • Genki Girl: Daisy almost always retains an upbeat attitude about everything and has some of the most cheerful dialogue.
  • Flight: Unlike Chiara whose too young to fly, Lyra is capable of using her wings for this.
  • Head Pet: Cornet has a small Cute Kitten that sits on her head.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Lyra who enjoys pulling pranks on people but seems nice nonetheless.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Amber has fox-like ears and a tail.
  • Nice Girl: Cecilia is the most prominent example, being incredibly patient and ladylike even amongst younger, less experienced witches.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Daisy and Cecila wear pink gowns and have noticeably girly, upbeat personalities.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Lala is a bit more hyperactive than her more cool, calm sister Lala.
  • Shock and Awe: Chloe can create circles of electricity that stun any enemies caught in her field.
  • The Stoic: Some witches like Nicola and Iris have the most stern personalities. Probably something to do with the ice powers.
  • Summon Magic: Twins Lilia and Lala work together to summon a guardian during battle.
  • Super-Deformed: The characters go from full grown with detailed clothing in their profiles and most manga strips but are immediately shrunken down in a typical chibi form when in battle.
  • Technical Pacifist: Sarah isn't one to fight, but she will pray and raise the skills of those around her.
  • Time Master: Kala can make the gameplay run at triple speed.
  • Unkempt Beauty: Lilian has messy hair that covers most of her face and is a bit less content as her younger sister, but she sure is cute.
