BraveNine Story (Video Game)
The Captain has eyes.
BraveNine Story is a retelling of the first game that puts emphasis on story and plays like a Visual Novel RPG as the game has the player insert new parts of the story as they encounter a list of characters who are either friend or foe.

The game shut down on February 29, 2024.

Tropes the game had while it was alive were:

  • Ascended Extra: Lydia partakes in the actions of the original party at the start of the game as opposed to her being distant from the main story with the only focus being given to her in one substory, Lydia, You Can Do It!
  • Big Eater: When a couple members of the party start eating enough to be a threat to the budget, Elin imposes a limit on the food much to the frustration right down to two of the younger females each getting a cookie and never letting the captain touch either item.
  • Composite Character: More like composite item, but the gold ink used for enhancing cards is repurposed to suit the function of stamina used by horseshoes in the main game.
  • Denser and Wackier: One of the earliest signs this particular story is weirder is the Captain, a suave and determined badass who'd fight even if he doesn't have the skill for it, is now a wimp who'd whine and rather laze around than lead while Elin picks up the slack. The entire story as a whole has been treated as part of its Lighter and Softer premise where the cast is expected to run into problems and solve them in a very Cloudcuckoolander way.
  • Featureless Protagonist: Averted with the Captain whose face is given a more defined design and has a variety of expressions.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: It's not the captain you get to name here, it's your mercenary band that you must name.
  • Impossibly Low Neckline: Lucrezia's Christmas attire consists of a dress that hangs beneath her shoulders.
  • Lighter and Softer: In comparison to the grimness and death prevalent throughout the original Brave Nine, the storyline for this game can be described as one of those wacky slice-of-life anime where you follow a rabble of heroes trying to make a name for themselves and gain mixed (read: funny) results.
  • Promoted to Playable: While more of an NPC in the original, the Captain takes the field here as a fighter who can be inserted into the fray.
  • Shout-Out: The substory That Time I Got to be a Slime Slayer is a clear reference to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
  • Skewed Priorities: Beatrice could only frown at the sight of the food she and her party eat getting cut down due to the budget constraints Elin made a point of imposing.
  • Starter Mon: Elin and the Captain are of the first characters to be in the party.
