After Alex Kidd defeated Janken and got his father restored to the throne, Alex was travelling Miracle World for mysteries which comes to a stop when all of the stars forming the constellation of Aries were found missing. Having been stolen by Ziggurat like he had 5000 years ago, Alex Kidd much join with Stella to retrieve the stars.
Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars has tropes like:
- Adapted Out: As the Master System version of The Lost Stars lacks multiplayer, Stella is a no-show.
- Conspicuous Electric Obstacle: At the end of the second level, there are zigzagged electric bolts coming out of nowhere, turning on and off.
- Deadly Droplets: The Lost Stars has blue droplets falling from the pipes that hurt Alex and Stella.
- Death Cry Echo: Alex and Stella let out a scream if they lose a life.
- Distaff Counterpart: The arcade version of The Lost Stars features Stella, who acts as the second player character.
- Excuse Plot: The game surrounds Alex and Stella embarking to seek out the twelve zodiac signs.
- Flame Spewer Obstacle: The space level has cannons with flames coming out of it.
- No Body Left Behind: If Alex or Stella lose a life, their body vanishes from the screen.
- Point of No Continues: Don't rely too much on the continuous play feature in the arcade version of The Lost Stars… because on some machines, it can cease to be available by the time you reach Round 5!
- Put on a Bus: Stella has not appeared in another game in the series.
- Timed Mission: The Sega Master System version runs on a timer that loses time each time Alex gets struck or falls off the screen.
- Video-Game Lives: Alex and Stella each start out with three of these that get expended if they run out of health in the arcade version.
