Mad Hatter is ultimately defeated by Batman and the people he brainwashed are freed. But the episode ends on a sad note as the trapped Jervis Tetch is forced to confront the reality that Alice and Billy are now closer than ever thanks to him, and that his own villainous actions destroyed any chance of a relationship he could have had with Alice. Batman could only solemnly look on as Jervis laments his defeat with the sad Mock Turtle song.
