With all of their personal items stolen by the Door Lord, PB, Marceline, Finn, and Jake try to retrieve them by opening the magical door, which can only be opened by a song. With the gang breaking up from frustration and creative differences, Finn sings about how much he cares about them and wishes they’d be honest on how they saw him. This begins to open the door, as it doesn’t respond to a specific tune, but a song that expresses true feelings, which is what Finn ends up doing with his song about his friends.
