Michael Buffer (born November 2, 1944, Philadelphia, PA) is a ring announcer/MC; mainly for for boxing, pro wrestlingnote and NFL events. Widely considered the most famous ring announcer of all time, Buffer is best known for his trademarked Catchphrase "Let's get ready to rumble!" which has earned Buffer over half a billion dollars in licensing revenue. In addition to football and combat sports, Buffer is also frequently invited to say his iconic catchphrase at other sports events like the World Series, the NBA Finals, and even the World Series of Poker.
In addition to his work in sports, he's also appeared on music albums, movies, and TV shows; regularly alternating between Adam Westing and straight announcing jobs. Some of his appearances include The Simpsons, MAD TV, the Rocky franchise, and numerous late night talk shows. Due to the high licensing fee for his catchphrase, Buffer rarely appears in video games, but nevertheless licensed his catchphrase and likeness to the Ready 2 Rumble Boxing series, and voiced the announcer in ClayFighter 63⅓.
Buffer is also a U.S. Army veteran — he enlisted during The Vietnam War from 1965 until 1968; though he admits he was never sent to the frontline during his time there.
His half-brother, Bruce, is a well-known ring announcer in his own right, and currently serves as the UFC's main ring announcer.note Michael was adopted as a baby by another family after his parents divorced; he never met his biological family until he became famous as an announcer. Michael and Bruce also own the Buffer Partnership, which manages their various trademarks and brands. Speaking of which, don't use the "let's get ready to rumble!" line too freely unless you have deep pockets; Buffer is very protective of that trademark, and the fines for violating it are so costly, many radio stations are known to outright forbid their hosts from saying it on air.
"Buffer no more. Just me... RUMBLEMAN!"
