- Disowned Adaptation: Fay Weldon, the author of the book this movie's based on, reportedly hated this movie, questioning, among other things, the decision to turn her story into a comedy. To be fair, it's a lot different from her novel and its subsequent BBC miniseries adaptation, which Weldon spoke far more highly of.
