The Croods: A New Age

Go To

  • The film’s beginning shows how Guy lost his parents to tar, which was alluded to in the first movie.
    • And consider the Bettermans; Guy and his parents were their best friends. So when Phil, Hope and Dawn learned that Guy’s parents died, it was a possibility Guy did too. This is the Croodaceous period, after all - it’s no wonder Phil and Hope became overprotective of Dawn just as Grug was of the Croods.
  • Eep and Guy’s falling out, thanks to Phil and Hope trying to make the latter more like them.
    • The seeds began to plant when Dawn and Eep return from their joyride with Chunky that resulted in Dawn getting a nasty sting on her hand. Guy calls out Eep on this, claiming that Dawn isn’t a “cavegirl” like her.
    • It reaches its nadir at dinner time, where Guy declares that the Betterman treehouse is “Tomorrow” and feels that he ''can’t'' leave. Eep’s devastated face along with her returning the stone Guy proposed to her with make you just wanna give her a hug.
    • And it gets worse when the girls get lost tracking Grug, Phil and Guy. During Hope’s "The Reason You Suck" Speech about how horrible cavepeople are, she pours salt on the wound by declaring that Guy has come to his senses and doesn’t belong with Eep at all. Eep’s hurt face clearly says it all.
    • Eep tries pretending she doesn’t care, but it’s obvious to Ugga (and us) that this hurt her more than anything.
Eep: I can't believe he would choose a tree...over me.
Ugga: I don't think it's that simple. Guy knew the Bettermans when he was little - they're the closest thing he has to a family.
Eep: Every time I've been hurt before, I've gotten a mark I can see. This hurts SO much, and I can't even see it.
    Ugga: I can see it.
Eep: It doesn't matter...we're just too different...I don't even care.
    • And on Guy's side: after he and the dads get taken by the Punch Monkeys and imprisoned, he has a dream where he hears Eep's voice, only to see a gigantic Eep declaring that "he made his choice" before walking away, tossing their rock behind at him as he tries to call for her to come back.
    • And later, he remembers all the Harsh Word Impact things he said to her, like telling her to try a shower and that she's a "cavegirl". That's the moment he realizes he truly did her wrong.
