Border Security: Australia's Front Line

Go To

Border Security: Australia's Front Line is a docuseries focusing on the various situations security officers face at Australia's borders day to day. Typically, the episodes will feature someone trying to smuggle narcotics, large amounts of undeclared food or cigarettes, or someone trying to enter the country under the wrong visa class.

Why didn't you declare these tropes? These are not allowed in the country!:

  • Blatant Lies: Many travelers try to lie to the officers unconvincingly. For instance, a Chinese man claiming to be an Australian resident since childhood cannot remember what high school he went to, and speaks with a thick Chinese accent. Unsurprisingly his passport is later discovered to be a forgery.
  • Boomerang Bigot: One Chinese woman insultingly refers to Officer Gail as "Old Lady", when she is one herself.
  • Bowdlerise: Due to YouTube's demonetization policies, the episodes on the website are more censored than the TV broadcast, with constant censor bleeps. The word "drug" is censored, and considering that officers often ask travelers if they have drugs on them, some episodes are filled with Cluster *Bleep*-Bomb.
  • The Cameo: One 2009 episode features wrestler Chris Hero visiting Australia to defend his title. As he arrived under a tourist visa which does not allow for paid performances, his sponsor quickly applies for an entertainment visa, which is granted.
  • Children Are Innocent: One couple tries to blame their undeclared food on the kids, much to the chagrin of Officer Brian.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Several of the people seen disrespects the security officers, blatantly, knowing that doing so could get them in serious trouble.
  • Insane Troll Logic: One Indian man comes to Australia intending to work on his sister's blueberry farm, but he apparently has a debilitating back problem. When asked about his problem:
Indian Man: My back problem in India, not here.
Border Security Officer: Your back problem doesn't magically fix itself just because you traveled across the border.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: The security officers are simply trying to protect Australia's border from potential threats, biosecurity, or otherwise, and are willing to consider exceptional circumstances. Cooperative first-time offenders are often left off with a warning instead of a fine.
