Best Interests is a 2023 series starring Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen. Nicci and Andrew's twelve-year-old daughter, Marnie (Niamh Moriarty) has a rare form of muscular dystrophy that requires round-the-clock care and has left her with a shortened life expectancy. When she suffers from a severe chest infection that leaves her unconscious and on a ventilator with almost no chance of recovery. When Marnie's doctors recommend that they withdraw treatment, Nicci and Andrew are divided on what to do. Nicci wants to pursue every possible medical intervention to keep Marnie alive, while Andrew gradually starts to side more with the doctors.

- Bittersweet Ending: Nicci decides not to appeal the judge's ruling not to continue treatment, which leads to her and Andrew reconciling. Together with Katie, they return to hospital for Marnie to be taken off life support.
- Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie: Played With. As they arrive at the hospital for the last time, Nicci admits that she doesn't want Marnie to die there rather than at home. Andrew tells her that he had already asked if they could take Marnie home to her own bed before her taking off the ventilator, but he was told that she wouldn't survive the ambulance ride. In the end, the family decide to forgo the option of keeping Marnie's body at home until her funeral so that her organs can be donated for transplant.
- Connected All Along: We don't find out until Katie's orchestra performance that Hannah is actually the daughter of Frank and Alice, Nicci and Andrew's friends who babysat Marnie while Nicci and Andrew were on holiday.
- Do Not Call Me "Paul": Katie doesn't like to be called by her full name, Caitlin.
- Forced Out of the Closet: The media attention from the court case means that Katie gets outed on Twitter as a result of her girlfriend trying to hawk some of Marnie's unused diazepam at the club they were at.
- Naturalised Name: Downplayed. Katie seems to prefer her more English-sounding nickname to her more overtly Irish full name.
- Secret Relationship: Katie's kept her relationship with her girlfriend, Hannah, a secret from everyone, including her parents.
- Transparent Closet: Although Nicci didn't know about Katie's relationship with Hannah before Katie was outed, she already knew that Katie was gay. The way she explains this suggests that she might have known before Katie was even fully aware of it herself.
- Vague Age: At first, it seems like Hannah is the same age as seventeen-year-old Katie, but when Katie mentions that to Andrew that Hannah doesn't have any friends "her own age", this suggests that Hannah is probably in her twenties.
