- The Super Mario Bros. Movie: During the training montage, a shot is shown where Mario, Peach, and Toad look out at the foggy mountaintops strongly evoking this painting.
- The Count of Monte Cristo (2024): The first poster with Edmond Dantès/the count (Pierre Niney) looking at the sea from a rocky sea shore invokes the painting.
- Crimson Peak: While making the film, the costume designer reportedly told Tom Hiddleston that they planned to base his character's wardrobe around this painting. Hiddleston complained that he was getting a little tired of playing characters modeled on the Wanderer.

- Oglaf: The sixth panel in the strip "The Urge" (no link due to being mildly NSFW) is very similar to the painting, though with the addition of a tree next to the man which is making him horny, somehow.
- Out of the Blue: In Chapter 8, on Page 6, Felix stands on the roof of a destroyed house in a mirrored version of the man's pose in the original. In front of him are floodwaters full of debris and the Great Smoky Mountains covered in wisps of fog.
