The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius S3E4 "Stranded"

Go To

Jimmy and Cindy get stranded on a deserted island when they argue about whether or not the equator is visible. Meanwhile, Carl, Sheen, and Libby get stranded in the middle of the ocean when the hovercar runs out of gas.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – Biology: Snakes are solitary, they do not live in packs
  • Bait-and-Switch: At the end, it looks like Jimmy and Cindy chose to stay, but instead, it's revealed that they did go back to Retroville and brought with them some coconuts so Sam can make new coconut milkshakes at the Candy Bar.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: When Sheen and Libby catch Carl eating candy bars on the hovercar, Sheen becomes so mad at him keeping them to himself he tries to throw him overboard. Libby says he can't throw Carl overboard, and when Sheen asks why not, Libby screams because he might have more food on him, and joins Sheen in attacking him.
  • Black Comedy: When Carl, Sheen, and Libby become stranded in the ocean after running out of gas for the hovercar, Sheen and Carl begin arguing over who will eat the other. Libby threatens to eat them both if they don't shut up.
    • In addition they seemingly sink a cruise ship. While the passengers claim they’re okay, the fact the ship sinks doesn’t bode well for the passengers potentially.
  • Brick Joke: Jimmy asks Cindy in shock "Did you just call me Jimmy" when she uses his name instead of an insult for the first time, complete with Record Needle Scratch. When the Giant Spider attacks the hovercar later, and Cindy says Jimmy's name in front of everyone else, the same thing happens with Carl, Sheen, and Libby asking "Did she just call you Jimmy" in unison.
  • Giant Spider: Jimmy and Cindy come across a giant spiderweb and avoid it. Later, while repairing the hovercar, Sheen finds some strange rocks, which turn out to be the spider's eggs.
  • Good-Times Montage: Jimmy and Cindy's time on the island, enjoying the various hobbies and survival skills and starting to fall for each other.
  • Here We Go Again!: Subverted. Jimmy and Cindy get into another ridiculous argument and charge off to see who is right, but it's clear they're just using that as an excuse to spend some time alone.
  • I'm Okay!: After Sheen, Libby, and Carl accidentally launch a missile at a cruise ship thinking it's an emergency flare, all the passengers call out, "We're okay!"
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: After Carl, Sheen, and Libby accidentally launch a missile at a cruise ship, Libby suggests they just keep this incident to themselves.
  • Logo Joke: During the DNA Productions Vanity Plate, Paul becomes a Spaniard and says, "Hola, soy Pablo!"
  • Man-Eating Plant: The first danger Jimmy and Cindy come across on the island is a giant Venus flytrap, answering Cindy's question as to how the plants are alive without water.
  • Monster Is a Mommy: The Giant Spider attacks just as the kids are about to leave the island. Jimmy realizes some of the rocks they put in for fuel are actually the spider's eggs and that she wants them back.
  • Naturally Huskless Coconuts: There are no husks on coconuts growing on trees.
  • Only Sane Woman: Libby quickly finds herself in this role during the subplot, due to Carl's oddities and Sheen's hammy behavior.
  • OOC Is Serious Business: Cindy addressing Jimmy by his first name is so unusual that he remarks he had honestly wondered if she even knew it.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Sheen says that "E" on a vehicle's fuel meter means " 'Elp yourself to some gas".
  • Shades of Suffocation: When Cindy gets strangled by a boa constrictor, her face turns blue.
  • Shirtless Scene: Jimmy spends a good chunk of being stranded in the island shirtless and wearing only a pair of shorts.
  • Significant Name Shift: Cindy noticeably begins referring to Jimmy by his first name as she grows more attracted to him throughout their ordeal. Jimmy himself as well as Libby, Carl, and Sheen all take note of this.
  • Skewed Priorities: In the face of Giant Spider trouble, the other kids take a moment to be focused on Cindy addressing Jimmy by his first name.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: The second threat Jimmy and Cindy come across are giant boa constrictors, one of whom almost crushes Cindy until Jimmy paralyzes it with ginseng.
  • Stepford Smiler: Cindy in the face of possible rescue from the island. She'd much rather stay.
