The A Team S 2 E 14 In Plane Sight

Go To

The A-Team is called to Portersville by the Hicks family. One of their own has been imprisoned on charges of drug smuggling, but they are sure he is being used as a patsy. Investigating, the A-Team trace the trouble all the way back to drug czar Winston Corliss, who's been hiding out in Columbia to avoid prosecution.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Act of True Love: When the team is discussing the job, Mr. Hicks says that he's prepared to sell the farm to get the money to clear Robbie's name. Judy is horrified, saying that the farm is all they have, but Mrs. Hicks concurs with her husband, saying it doesn't matter at all next to their son. The team ends up going easy on them.
  • Attack! Attack... Retreat! Retreat!: Pete and Mack run after Murdock after finding out that he isn't who he says he is...only to turn around and run the opposite way when they're met by Hannibal, Face, and B.A., who had been hiding around the corner of a nearby building.
  • Batman Gambit: Hannibal has Murdock pretend to have been in a crash and go to the hospital. Winston Corliss, who will want the cocaine, will come after Murdock to find the plane.
    Judy: What if he doesn't?
    Hannibal: He will.
  • Gone Horribly Right: B.A. grouches about it when Hannibal decides to blow his duck call as an unobtrusive way of contacting Face and Murdock. When Judy says that the duck call must not be very good, B.A. retorts that the problem is, it's too good; the last time Hannibal blew it, a group of duck hunters mistook the team for ducks.
  • Hypno Fool: B.A. is tricked into being hypnotized so that he will fall asleep when someone says "eclipse", allowing him to sleep through an important flight. Later, in combat, Face runs out of ammo and yells, "give me clips!" and he falls asleep.
  • Imposter Forgot One Detail: The A-Team's effort to pass Murdock off as the villains' expected pilot, Dick Nash, works until one of his old co-workers arrives. It turns out that Dick Nash is Black.
  • OOC Is Serious Business: Murdock spends most of the episode speaking and behaving scarily normally in an attempt to make other team members more comfortable around him, to the point that Hannibal expresses concern he's going straight and fears losing his old friend. Murdoch reverts to his old self by the end, although it all may have been a hint that he's just masterfully Obfuscating Insanity.
  • Opinion Flip-Flop: As the team drives to Portersville, Face alleges they'll get stiffed and complains about Hannibal insisting on doing charity cases all the time. After spending some time with Mrs. Hicks, whose son is part of the case, he immediately changes his mind. It's even noted by Hannibal.
Hannibal: Look, kid, one minute you're complaining about us being a charity club and the next we're doing it for free.
  • Punch! Punch! Punch! Uh Oh...: Pete punches B.A. in the gut and can't even provoke a flinch. Then B.A. returns the punch and tumbles him over the roof of the car.
  • Run for the Border: Inverted. The main troublemaker is a drug lord who has been hiding out in Colombia because he has friends in high places there. The team has to trick him into driving across the border so he can be arrested.
