Sonic Boom S 1 E 50 Cabin Fever Recap
..Well, they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The fiftieth episode of the first season of Sonic Boom.

When a thunderstorm breaks out, Team Sonic takes shelter in Amy's house. There, they discover Amy's idea for a play, with each character being based on them.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Admiration-Based Mimicry: The episode begins with Sonic, Tails, Sticks, and Knuckles making sand castles while Amy judges their castles. Tails (who idolizes Sonic) makes a sand castle that’s just a slightly smaller copy of Sonic’s sand castle. Amy calls Tails’ castle very derivative.
  • Cabin Fever: Both the title and premise of this episode. Team Sonic is trapped in Amy's house together during a thunderstorm, with Control Freak Amy as the host deciding what they do.
  • Dragged into Drag: When the gang put on Amy's play, Dave the Intern plays her character Annie Rose, while wearing a wig.
  • Fear of Thunder: In this episode, Tails displays a comical fear of lightning storms, often jumping into Sonic's arms and shaking when one occurs.
  • Fictional Counterpart: In-Universe; Amy's story has characters based on her friends and herself.
  • Her Code Name Was "Mary Sue": Amy's play is very much just a self-glorifying fanfic written by herself to herself.
  • Here We Go Again!: This episode ends with another thunderstorm breaking out after Amy's play ends. Everyone goes to Amy's house to ride out the storm, much to Amy's chagrin.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction:
    • Amy makes a rustic wicker centerpiece for the table, and says they made it with bits they have in the home...which are actually parts they got from a special mail-order catalog.
    • Tails exclaims he doesn't cower, and after lightning strikes, he starts cowering underneath Sonic, and notes the irony of the situation.
  • I Resemble That Remark!:
    • While reading Amy's play, Knuckles complains that his character doesn't get easily distracted by shiny objects. When he goes to read it, he gets distracted by the gilded edges of the novel. Sticks then lampshades this later when Amy catches them by showing Knuckles a shiny spoon.
    • While reading Amy's play, Tails complains that his character is described as cowering behind Sonic. Immediately, a lightning flash sends him cowering behind Sonic.
      Tails: Curse you, Irony!
  • Mythology Gag: This episode reveals that Tails is still afraid of lightning.
  • Oblivious to His Own Description: Sonar, the obvious expy to Sonic in Amy's play, is read out by Sonic himself. While he admits that there is some resemblance to the ego and the color, he maintains he has the attitude to back it up, and his fur is more a royal blue than the ocean blue Sonar is described as, and concludes Sonar is nothing like him.
  • Out of Focus: Eggman doesn't appear in this episode, a rarity in the series where he at least makes a cameo appearance as a small gag.
  • Shout-Out: This episode has one to The Glass Menagerie, of all things. Knuckles accidentally knocks down Amy's glass unicorn and the horn breaks off. Amy notes that "A glass horse is just as good as a glass unicorn, I suppose", similar to how the protagonist of the play brushes off her own glass unicorn getting its horn broken.
  • Tempting Fate: This exchange:
Sticks: It's coming down pretty hard out there. It can't get any worse.
Amy: It's time for arts and crafts!
    Sticks: I spoke too soon.
  • Write Who You Know: In-Universe; Amy based the characters in her play, A Rose Without Thorns on her friends. Annie Rose on herself, Sonar on Sonic, Taylor on Tails, Shoulders on Knuckles, and Twigs on Sticks.
