Meg begins dating Ernie the Giant Chicken's teenage son, much to Peter's fury.

Tropes:

• Ambiguous Situation: Whether Ernie was Killed Off for Real or not, since the chicken has survived just as bad or worse in the past, such as PeTerminator blowing his head off, or being impaled and roasted by a space shuttle's engines (it doesn't help that the Family Guy Fandom wiki has listed him as "deceased" at the time of this writing). Only time will tell if he shows up again alive and kicking. However, it was later confirmed by executive producer Alec Sulkin that Ernie's death was final, thus ending the long-time chicken fight sequences for the show.
• Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Peter tries to persuade Meg to move back in with the family, but becomes too distracted with an Iron Man bounce house next door to Ernie's house and ends up going into it.
• Can't Live With Them, Can't Live Without Them: Despite Meg moving out to live with Nugget's family, Peter is clearly miserable without her.
• Catapult Nightmare: Peter suddenly jolts awake after hearing that Meg is dating his Arch-Enemy's son. However, that was a coincidence — his nightmare was about forgetting to go to college.
• Continuity Snarl: Ernie the Giant Chicken is Killed Off for Real by Meg tearing off his head when he has previously survived his head being blown up by a shotgun.
• Curb-Stomp Battle: Meg annihilates Ernie by ripping his head off because he doesn't have it in him to fight a girl. What's more, it's implied that being beaten up by Meg might've genuinely killed him - something not even Peter has been able to do to Ernie since their first encounter.
• Dating What Daddy Hates: Peter is not happy in the slightest when he finds out that Meg is dating his Sitcom Arch-Nemesis's son. Meanwhile, Ernie doesn't mind Nugget dating Meg... as long as she hates her dad.
• Dude, Not Funny!: Averted when Peter tells the other guys about a time when Meg broke her clavicle falling down stairs and laughs about it. Cleveland is the only one to acknowledge it:
  Cleveland: So the laughing was 'cause your daughter hurt herself?
• Even Evil Has Standards: Ernie refuses to fight Meg, since he thinks beating up a teenage girl would be going too far. This clearly works in Meg's favor.
• Interspecies Romance: Meg, a human being, dates an anthropomorphic chicken.
• Karma Houdini: Meg gets away with murdering her boyfriend’s father and apparently lying about why she broke up with Nugget at the end of the episode.
• Killed Off for Real: Initially implied with Ernie the Giant Chicken, as when the fight ended, he was not shown to have survived the fight like he usually does (even as the sound usually played to indicate it was played). However, it was later confirmed by executive producer Alec Sulkin that Ernie has been permanently killed off for good, thus ending the long-time chicken fight sequences for the show.
• Last Het Romance: After moving back with the Griffins, Meg claims she is this to Nugget and shows them his pictures of tiny cocks.
  Stewie: (amused) Oh, "Nugget" Nugget?
• Logging onto the Fourth Wall: If you scan the QR Code that shows up on Sex Farm, it takes you to visitcoreysworld.com, a real site by Fox that features dating profiles for some characters on the show.
• Mondegreen Gag: Fed up with Meg dating Nugget, Peter gives her an "old tomato," and "a final demand or statement of terms, the rejection of which will result in retaliation or a permanent cessation of relations." In short, an ultimatum.
• "Not So Different" Remark: Realizing that Ernie only welcomed her to stay at his house on the condition that she hates Peter, Meg provokes him into a fight by pointing out he's just like her dad.
• Not So Invincible After All: Despite being beaten to a pulp by Peter many times over the years, Ernie always survived these encounters. However, he's killed by Meg here, showing that he's not truly unkillable.
• Off with His Head!: Meg rips Ernie's head off near the end of the episode. Alec Sulkin would would later confirm this is what finally killed him for good.
• Overly Long Gag: Peter tries to insert a crumbled dollar bill into a change machine. It gets rejected, and he tries to smooth it out, and this happens a few times. Then the machine walks away.
• A Pig Named "Porkchop": Ernie the Giant Chicken's son is named "Nugget".
• Plot-Relevant Age-Up: The last time Ernie's kids were seen, and they both appeared to be younglings. In this episode, one of them, Nugget, is around the same age as Meg. Even more notable, the other one looks roughly the same age as they did the previous time they were seen.
• Pun-Based Title: On "the chicken or the egg".
• Running Gagged: Implied. Ernie's defeat here does not have him open his eyes afterwards, implying he actually did die this time. Alec Sulkin also confirmed his death to be final, which might mean the end of the chicken fights for good.
• Running Gag Stumbles: Meg gets into a confrontation with Ernie, and they Death Glare at each other. However, the fight fizzles out because Ernie Wouldn't Hit a Girl. Meg takes advantage of this to brutally tear his head off. Since he wasn’t shown to survive this at the end, like in the other chicken fights on the show, it is implied he may have actually been killed by this.
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
  • Meg, after getting fed up with Peter's attitude towards her dating Nugget, leaves the Griffins' household and moves in with him. She does the same thing at the Giant Chicken's house by the end of the episode, after learning Ernie doesn't care about her dating his son, and only allows her to stay as long as she hates Peter, too.
  • A change machine sprouts legs and walks away after Peter's dollar bill gets rejected by it too many times.
• Series Continuity Error: An unnamed helicopter pilot who is part of the crew for the “Sex Farm” reality show claims that he killed Osama Bin Laden. This contradicts “Brokeback Swanson” as that states that the husband of a woman Brian was sleeping with, named Vic, was the one who killed Bin Laden.
• Sheep in Sheep's Clothing: Parodied. On Sex Farm, Meg hits it off with a guy in a chicken costume, who is revealed to be a literal chicken.
• Shout-Out: Meg and Nugget are bathing in a hot tub during their Falling-in-Love Montage, but sneak out once they see Elmer Fudd chopping carrots into it.
• Survival Mantra: A Cutaway Gag has Peter remind himself three times not to masturbate while being lowered onto a reality TV show. He doesn't even make it to the ground.
• Take That!: Two jokes make fun of Peacock's streaming service not having any of its most popular shows.
• Unreliable Expositor: Meg claims in the ending that Nugget is gay and shows a picture on her phone that he apparently texted showing literally into roosters. As the picture looks normal due to showing several roosters just staying still, it is uncertain whether what Meg is saying about Nuggets is true or not.
• Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Meg doesn't get into a fight with Ernie like Peter always does, because he thinks fighting a young woman is too far. This ends up being in Meg's favor, with her decapitating him offscreen.
