Captain Flamingo S 2 E 9 Recap

The neighborhood kids are becoming self-sufficient making Milo feel unneeded. He tries to drum up business by helping kids who didn’t even ask for help - just annoying them! Finally – there's someone in trouble! The Nugget is in a panic as he is being phased out to make way for a new, healthier food: the Vegetable Medley! Can the Captain save his archenemy? Wait. Should the Captain save his archenemy? And, if he does, will it prove to his nugget-loving clientele that they need the Captain more than ever?

Tropes in this episode:

  • Abandoned Mascot: The plot kicks off with The Nugget being in a panic as the Dairy Monarch is phasing him out as the restaurant's mascot to be replaced with some new vegetable mascots as a result of a new tofu restaurant opening across the street. Thanks to the Captain's efforts, this has been averted especially after said vegetable mascots have now become pals with him after defeating the Tofu mascot from the other restaurant.
  • Breath Weapon: The squash mascot uses his rancid bad breath as a weapon to defeat the Tofu mascot from the Tofu restaurant across the street, which poisons him and led to his defeat.
Kung Fu Tofu: Ahhhh!! I'm burning up!! I can't breathe!! Pepper... too hot!!
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • In order to defeat the Vegetable Medley, Milo uses a wind-up chattering teeth in attempt to attack them. However, once one of them saw the teeth hitting him softly in the leg, they admitted that this was a really weak way to attack them.
    • Milo then uses a huge napkin to cover the Vegetable Medley as a way to get rid of them. While it did initially worked, the mascots were able to rip through the napkin, and starts attacking the children with broccoli.
  • Dragged by the Collar: Ruth Ann was a victim of this when she was dragged by her mother to the Dairy Monarch to order vegetables, which she doesn't want.
  • Edible Ammunition: The broccoli mascot attacks the children by throwing broccoli at them as a weapon, much to their disgust.
    Children: No! We hate broccoli!
  • "Eureka!" Moment: In order for The Nugget to become the mascot for the Dairy Monarch again from the new vegetable mascots, Milo uses his "Bird Brain" to find a solution to this problem. Lizbeth mentions that this whole mascot fight is silly and suggests that they both should get along, prompting Milo an idea to find something that both The Nugget and the Vegetable Medley have something in common. He mentions that if those mascots are ever going to be friends, they must have a common enemy, leading to Milo to call the tofu restaurant across the street to bring in that restaurant's mascot in order for them to fight with each other as tofu is an enemy for both parties. Once the Tofu mascot arrives to start attacking them, Milo uses a slingshot to let one the squash mascot fly up to attack him by using his stinky breath, poisoning him, which lead to his defeat. This finally led to both The Nugget and the Vegetable Medley becoming combo mascots of the restaurant, much to the kids delight.
  • Garbage Hideout: Milo does this briefly in order to hide from the vegetable mascots attempting to replace The Nugget as the Dairy Monarch's new mascots.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The Vegetable Medley spent most of the episode as enemies since they were replacing The Nugget as the Dairy Monarch's mascot in order for the restaurant to now include much healthier mascots. But once they and The Nugget work together to defeat the Tofu mascot from the new Tofu restaurant across the street (since tofu is a common enemy for both parties), they have now become good friends and still served as the restaurant's mascots alongside The Nugget.
  • Kids Hate Vegetables: The neighborhood kids were disappointed to learn that the Dairy Monarch is phasing out The Nugget as the restaurant's mascot to be replaced with new vegetable mascots, much to their disapproval, which leads to the Captain to fight with the vegetable mascots in order for The Nugget to become mascot again. Luckily, right after both The Nugget and the vegetable mascots defeated the Tofu mascot from the restaurant across the street (as tofu is a common enemy to both parties), it led to both The Nugget and the Vegetable Medley becoming not just dual mascots for the restaurant, but also becoming pals. Even the children are now delighted about this change, thus making this trope averted by the end.
  • Pop the Tires: Done by Milo disguised himself as the Warrior Monkey by using a sharp pin to pop the tire of his wheel, to test if The Nugget is trustworthy to help by showing that breaking other people's property isn't okay. By the time he leaves it alone, The Nugget was able to fix it properly, thus proving that he is trustworthy to help despite being one of his archenemies.
  • Scary Stinging Swarm: During the beginning, Ruth Ann gets chased by a swarm of mosquito bees at the fair. Luckily, she uses a flier and pours a bottle of beeswax on it and puts it on a power line to trap them, which worked, all without the Captain's help.
  • Victory Hoist: Happens at the end of the episode where the children cheering and hoisting the Captain for his heroic efforts regarding The Nugget and the Vegetable Medley mascots becoming a great combo for the Dairy Monarch restaurant and becoming great pals.

Journey to the Centre of the TV

It's the anniversary of the day that Milo saved Lizbeth when they were both toddlers, but Milo has no idea that it's a huge deal to her. He's more interested in the all-day Quantum Vigilante marathon on TV! Until he hears an "Uh-oh! Flamingo! - from the TV! It happens to be Quantum Vigilante himself! So the Captain and Lizbeth leap into the TV and become part of Quantum Vigilante’s world. Now it's up to the Captain to get QV out of this jam in order to fight with his nemesis!

Tropes in this episode:

  • All Just a Dream: Turns out the entire adventure of Milo and Lizbeth helping Quantum Vigilante give his ex-wife a present for her birthday through the TV happens to just be a dream from Milo, as he fell asleep while he was about to start watching an all-day Quantum Vigilante marathon on TV. Not just that, even the whole bit in the grocery store where Milo is tasked on buying gorgon cheese for his mother, which he straight up forgot in real time due to falling asleep.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Earlier in the episode, Lizbeth gives Milo a candy necklace as a gift meant to be for their anniversary on the day they first met (although in reality, he is actually more excited for the twelve-hour Quantum Vigilante marathon playing on TV). Eventually, this happens to solve the problem regarding Quantum Vigilante's ex-wife not remembering to give her a present for her birthday, as he gave that exact same necklace to her as a gift, which she admired.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Milo uses his "Bird Brain" to find a way for Quantum Vigilante to give The Ex something that she wants before she destroys him and Earth. Just when Lizbeth is about to suggest a solution, she then gains powers of remembering what exactly happened before, she realizes that this whole thing is just a dream since before she and Milo went inside through the TV, she remembers that they both fall asleep while watching the Quantum Vigilante marathon on TV. This led to Milo suddenly remember that in Episode 245 of the Quantum Vigilante show, it was the one where The Ex celebrates her birthday, leading to Milo giving his candy necklace that Lizbeth gave to him earlier in the episode to Quantum Vigilante as her birthday present. The Ex admires the gift from him since it reminded her of the necklace he gave to him on their first date. Because of this, she decided to not destroy him or the Earth anymore, as long as Quantum Vigilante hangs out with her more often.
  • Evil Is Bigger: By the time Milo and Lizbeth leap inside to the TV to help Quantum Vigilante, they encounter a villain known as Eighth of an Inch Taller Man (actually Milo's cousin Wendell in Quantum Vigilante's universe), who, as his name implies, happens to be eighth of an inch taller than anybody or anything. However, it was revealed that he was only sent as a warning from his real nemesis, The Ex, who happens to the ex-wife of Quantum Vigilante.
  • Flashback Cut: Since Lizbeth realizes that Milo has been forgetting that today happens to be their anniversary of the day that they both first met since he is more excited for a Quantum Vigilante marathon on TV, we then cut to a brief flashback of their first encounter as toddlers. We see a young Lizbeth fall off from a swing, but was safely landed by a young Milo while building (and eventually crashing) a sandcastle and thanks him for her nice save, which led to Milo start itching himself.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Quantum's Vigilante's ex-wife appropriately titled The Ex spends majority of the episode attacking Quantum Vigilante over desperately wanting him to give her a gift or else she will destroy him and the world. However, once he gave her a candy necklace that reminds her of the one he gave her on their first date, she now becomes good, as long as Quantum Vigilante remembers to hang out with her.
  • Kite Riding: In order to prevent him, Lizbeth and Quantum Vigilante from falling into a pit of lava, Milo uses his flamingo kite to rescue them and land safely.
  • Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: The Ex (also known as Deidree Fichman Vigilante) is Quantum Vigilante's ex-wife, who desperately wants Quantum Vigilante to give her something that she really wants since Quantum Vigilante doesn't remember events like birthdays, anniversaries and even garbage night due to him saving the world instead, thus ignoring her. If he doesn't give her something, not just she will destroy him, she would destroy Earth as well. Of course, when Quantum Vigilante eventually did gave her a candy necklace as a birthday gift, she admires it and decided to no longer destroy him or Earth, as long as he hangs out with her more often.
  • Trapped in TV Land: Basically, the entire plot of this episode.
  • Visual Pun: Since the entire episode happens to be just a dream from Milo while asleep, including the bit in the grocery store where he tasked to buy cheese (and snacks he needed for the Quantum Vigilante marathon on TV), which he straight up forgot real-time, the Narrator not just does a cheese-related pun at the end, we even see Milo and Lizbeth holding a big block of cheese just when they returned from the store!
Narrator: Yes, there's always action and adventure in the life of Milo Powell! How's that for a cheesy ending, hmm?
  • Water Guns and Balloons: Milo briefly uses water balloons in attempt to attack Eighth of an Inch Taller Man, but proven useless as because of his large height, he isn't affected.
