"Veritas" is the Season 5 premiere and the 93rd episode overall. It originally aired September 24, 2008.
Mac narrowly escapes his kidnapper and returns to the Lab to help the team nab the culprit. Meanwhile, a dead woman tied to the case seems to have a connection to Flack's sister, Samantha.
Tropes for the episode:
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Mac cites no less than seven felonies for which the perp is being arrested, then ends with "but most of all, for pissing me off."
- List of Transgressions: When Mac catches up with "Joe" the bank robber, he tells him he's under arrest for two murders, kidnapping, attempted murder, armed robbery, grand theft auto, and assault and battery.
- Multiple Identity IDs: Mac & Stella find "Joe"'s stash of passports from various countries, all with his picture but different names. Adam eventually determines which one of them isn't a fake, and it's not the one with "Joe" as his first name...or the alias in the credits from the previous episode.
- Run for the Border: "Joe" has his wife purchase various bus, plane and train tickets for their family to throw the team off his trail. The ones he intends for them to use are for a train trip to Canada, but he is apprehended right before boarding.
- Sequel Episode: Picks up where "Hostage," left the audience hanging at the end of last season.
- Short-Distance Phone Call: During their last of many cell phone conversations, Joe thinks he's getting away, but Mac is actually approaching him from behind at the train station and puts his phone away before uttering his last sentence directly into Joe's ear.
