The third episode of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, not counting the pilot movie. Team Lightyear discovers that XR's "big brother", XL, has been reactivated by Zurg and is now on the loose, stealing new parts in order to get revenge on Star Command.
Tropes associated with this episode include:
- Answer Cut: At the end of the episode, Mira wonders how XL got reactivated in the first place.Buzz: (Suspiciously) I've got a pretty good idea.
(Cuts to Planet Z, where Zurg's Evil Laugh is heard offscreen) - Antagonist Title: The second episode of the series to have the villain's name as the title.
- The Bad Guy Wins: Zurg. While XL may have been caught, there's still a new villain out there wanting to take down Star Command. Subverted inasmuch as XL fails to destroy Star Command.
- Call-Back: In the pilot, Commander Nebula never liked the idea of robots being space rangers. This episode reveals that it's due to XL and how catastrophic the results were when he was activated.
- Crime Spree Montage: The episode starts with XL stealing various robot parts to rebuild himself.
- Greater-Scope Villain: The ending reveals Zurg to be this, having been the one who reactivated XL.
- Impact Silhouette: Commander Nebula leaves one when XL slams him against the wall
- Non-Combat Mecha: To fulfill this revenge plan, XL steals various parts from numerous different robotics and mechanics. One such part was the reinforced leg belonging to a mech that conducted heavy loading lifting.
- Running Gag: XR calling Commander Nebula his "dad", much to the latter's annoyance.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: XL intends to prove to Commander Nebula that he's the better ranger.
