Dayna: I remember when my grandparents died. At first it didn't seem real, but then, when it hits you that they're really dead, you start thinking about all that gross stuff that's happening to their bodies down there.
Danny: If you don't mind, I'm still at the "It doesn't feel real" part. But thanks for the cheery thought.
Dayna: But it is cheery, when you think about it. I mean the dying part is sad and probably scary, just because you can't do anything about it. What comes next is like, like a miracle in reverse. Cells breaking down and flesh disintegrating. Everything dissolving away, returning to the Earth from which it all came. Til all that's left is the memory of space you once filled in someone's heart.
Danny: Aren't you a cheerleader?

Literature

She didn’t dress Goth-she wore jumpers with that funky vest on top and carried a Han Solo lunchbox—but she had a Goth mentality. She worshipped a punk band called The Dead Kennedys, could quote lines from Taxi Driver, and loved the stories and poems of H. P. Lovecraft.

Dark blue is goth. Advanced goth gets you jewel tones.

Live-Action TV

I may be painfully shy and obsessed with death, but I have a very effervescent personality!
Tina, Glee

Vince: You're gonna have to get a bit dark, like me.
Howard: Like you? You're the least dark person I've ever met. You're like candyfloss!
Vince: You cut me open, and I'm made of blackjacks!
Howard: You're Fruit Salad, Vince. Everyone knows that.

Webcomics

Fisk: You’re pretty cheery for a black-clad goth.
Beth: I like the color!

But in the annals of the Kindred, one bloodline above all is whispered of with special dread. It's not that there are many of them, or that they are particularly tough. It's just that, in a society of blasphemers, they commit the ultimate blasphemy. In an eternity of horror, they have a unique ability to horrify the horrific. In a world of transcendent angst, they transcend angst itself.
In fact, there's a nasty suspicion that they're having fun.
Dork Tower, "Clanbook Perky"
