Basic Trope: A character eats themselves to death.
- Straight: Bob eats pancakes until he dies.
- Exaggerated: Bob dies from eating a single pancake and he is not even allergic to any of the ingredients and the pancake was not poisoned.
- Downplayed: Bob eats pancakes until he gets sick, vomits them all back up, and contracts a deadly disease that runs rampant while his weakened system can't eradicate it.
- Justified:
- He choked while eating.
- He exploded during the process.
- The pancakes were poisoned with a lethal substance or a substance that is lethal in large quantities.
- He is allergic to an ingredient in the pancakes.
- Inverted:
- Bob dies because he hadn't eaten pancakes in forever.
- Bob formerly suffered from a Convenient Terminal Illness, but eating pancakes eradicates it from his system and makes him immune to recurrences.
- Subverted: Bob actually died from a drug overdose.
- Double-Subverted: It turns out that he hid the drugs in the pancakes.
- Parodied: Bob is addicted to pancakes and he went to IHop and ate at least a million pancakes. There, he dies from "pancake overdose".
- Zig-Zagged: Bob is an immortal who is revived each time he dies. He has died four times already, with his own gluttony having killed him every other time.
- Averted:
- Bob dies from blood loss after a battle.
- Bob doesn't die.
- Lampshaded: "How did Bob die from eating pancakes?"
- Discussed: "Bob is dead." "What happened?" "He ate pancakes until he died."
- Conversed: "HOW THE FUCK DID BOB DIE FROM EATING PANCAKES!? Did the writers have no idea on how to kill off a character or did they write it on drugs!?"
Dinner is served, but take care not to eat yourselves to death.
