Crucified Hero Shot

Go To

Basic Trope: A heroic character's arms are outstretched, reminiscent of a crucified Jesus Christ.

  • Straight: After Taking the Bullet meant for Alice, Bob lies on the ground with his arms outstretched as he says his Dying Declaration of Love towards a tearful Alice.
  • Exaggerated: Every time someone in the work dies, even when it's from natural causes like cancer, their arms just so happen to be outstretched, their legs stuck together, and they always happened to have Died Standing Up against a cross-shaped object.
  • Downplayed: Bob lays on the ground slowly fading into unconsciousness with his arms lying by his sides and his legs somewhat spread out. It's not an exact match but it is reminiscent of it.
  • Justified: Bob is a devout Christian and has always wanted to die like Jesus to prove his devotion to Christianity one last time.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob dies with his legs outstretched.
    • Emperor Evulz is flung head-first into a fiery pit like Satan.
  • Subverted: Bob's arms are initially outstretched, but then Alice walks past and accidentally bumps his legs, ruining the pose.
  • Double Subverted: After Bob takes his last breath, Alice mournfully arranges his pose to have his legs together like Jesus.
  • Parodied:
    • People reenact Jesus Christ's crucifixion with Bob's corpse immediately after he dies.
    • A gust of wind conveniently blows leaves and branches around Bob's head as he bleeds out ala the Crown of Thorns, and three days later, Bob inexplicably returns without warning.
  • Zig-Zagged: Bob dies with his arms outstretched, but soon rigor mortis takes effect, slightly moving his arms and ruining the pose. But then during his funeral, at Alice's request, Bob's body is seen with his arms outstretched in his open casket to show his last devotion to Christianity before the casket is closed and lowered into the ground. But his body decomposes and his pose changes yet again.
  • Averted: Bob does not die with his arms outstretched.
  • Lampshaded: "The way Bob died looks a lot like Jesus on the cross."
  • Invoked: The priest advises Bob and the entire church that when they die, they should die with their arms outstretched to show their devotion to Christianity to the very end.
  • Exploited: Evulz, who happens to be anti-Christian, snaps a photo of Bob dying in the crucifixion pose and posts it on a anti-Christian website, which drives people to hate Bob despite all the good he did.
  • Deconstructed: Posing in such a position can give a bad impression to others and seeing the deceased posing like that as a vain way to die and that compering ones self to Jesus as a big no-no.
  • Defied:
    • Evulz blows Bob's arms off during the latter's Multiple Gunshot Death, refusing to let him die in the Jesus pose.
    • Bob works hard to avoid the Jesus pose as a way to avoid looking like someone comparing himself to Jesus for the sake of being a more Humble Hero.
  • Discussed: "Listen, Alice. If I were ever to die, I'm going to die like Jesus like many of these hero characters in these flicks I watch. My arms outstretched, legs together, all that. Cuz, what better way to do in your final moments than show how much you love God and His love, yea?"
  • Conversed: "Really unsubtle way to show Bob's a Messianic Archetype there."
