Marius Listhrop (born June 19, 1994), professionally known as Scarlxrd^note pronounced "Scar-lord", is a British rapper from Wolverhampton, England, known for being a pioneer in the Trap Metal genre. His style is characterized by his intense scream-rapping and Heavy Metal influenced beats, as well his dark Tokyo Ghoul-influenced look with black and white clothing, chains, and a surgeon mask.

Before becoming a rapper, Listhrop was a YouTuber named Mazzie Maz and the lead singer of a Nu Metal band called Myth City.

In 2025, Scarlxrd started streaming on Kick. His streams range from gaming, reactions, workouts, and Q/As with fans.

• Album Intro Track: DeadRising is the only album to have one, called "Intrx.0000". The track has a girl and her friends summon Scarlxrd like if he was Bloody Mary, and they regret it immediately.
• Album Title Drop:
  • DeadRising ends with one of these, with the last song "Still.Here" having a cluster of them at the end.
  • A lot of songs on Made in Hell contain an ad-lib of Corpse Husband saying the album's title, and the final song "HADES" also has one in the chorus.
  • All Fxr Nxthing has a vicious one in the middle of "PRETENDER".
• all lowercase letters: "dx dead pexple dream?", "dxn't panic", "save yxurself", "hitman", "abandxned", "dead man's game", and "irrelevant".
• Animated Music Video: The video for "777-777-777". The first half is animated like a 16-bit video game, showing Scarlxrd going on a murderous rampage before being killed by police. The second half switches to CGI animation and shows Scarlxrd flying uncontrollably throughout the afterlife.
• Arc Words: "Made in Hell" is a phrase tattooed on Scarlxrd’s neck that also pops up throughout his music often. The intro to DeadRising refers to Scarlxrd as "the one who was made in hell", there are two songs with that phrase on PSYCHX, and it's the name of his 2023 studio album.
• Atomic F-Bomb: Many songs, specific examples being "Red Light" and "Yujirx's Theme".
• Audience Participation Song: Although any song of his can be this trope with a good enough crowd, they most often sing along to the choruses of "6 FEET", "The Walking Dead", and "MISS ME?", and in the case of "Heart Attack" and "LIVING LEGEND", the whole song!
• Auto-Tune: Scarlxrd started using this in FANTASY VXID, and has used it frequently since, with PSYCHX, Made in Hell, and TRAPLXRD making extensive use of it. Even one of his more metal-inspired albums, DXXM II, uses it on the song "Utxpia = Mass Genxcide".
• Badass Boast: The number of songs where he doesn't do this is microscopic. Scarlxrd is always bragging about how rich and successful he is, how he can easily steal your girl, how he doesn't give a shit what anyone else thinks of him, and how you don't want to catch him in a fight. "King, Scar" and "BANDS" are notable examples of the first two, and "WELCXME TX THE GULAG" is a prime example of the latter two. Even in Sanity Slippage songs like "HELL IS XN EARTH", he still sneaks in bars talking about how he counts money all day.
• Big "SHUT UP!": "STFU" and "Shh!…" have profane ones in their choruses.
• Bilingual Bonus:
  • A recurring sample throughout his songs is a man yelling "Weh di bloodclaat do yuh? Siddung! Siddung!", which is a Jamaican saying meaning "What the fuck is wrong with you? Sit down!"
  • The title of his fourth studio album is スカー藩主, his name spelled in Japanese. Most of his music videos have a slide of his Japanese name in the intros as well.
• Blank White Eyes: In music videos, Scar occasionally rolls his eyes upward to give this effect, a la The Undertaker. This combined with sticking his tongue out of zipper-variant masks make him look extra creepy.
• Bookends: "Xmni-Man" both begins and ends with Scar repeatedly screaming "fuck this planet".
• CAPS LOCK: Many of his songs and albums have all-caps titles, such as every song off of INFINITY and SCARHXURS.
• Careful with That Axe: His ear-piercing shrieks are the main characteristic of his rapping style.
• Cool Mask:
  • His iconic black surgical mask he adopted shortly before Chaxsthexry, in order to distance himself from his YouTube days. He briefly retired the mask in 2019, before bringing it back the following year.
  • The music videos for DeadRising have him wear a terrifying zombie-looking mask, resembling those worn by Corey Taylor.
• Cluster F-Bomb: Often, some examples being "I WANT TX SEE YXU BLEED", "Anti-Prxgress", and "Yujirx's Theme", just to name a few.
• Crapsack World:
  • "PRISXN PLANET earth", "PIECES XF SHIT", and "HELL IS XN EARTH" from DXXM are about this, featuring Scar ranting about the world and the terrible people in it.

  • "Xmni-Man" has Scar repeatedly scream "FUCK THIS PLANET" and rap about how much weaker the rest of the human race is compared to him.

• Crossover:
  • Scarlxrd has made many songs with Corpse Husband, such as "MISA MISA!" and "LIKE YXU WXULD KNXW", which have gone viral.
  • PSYCHX is a collaborative album with Kordhell.
• Darker and Edgier:
  • Although they still have occasional screams and other elements of his later sound, Scarlxrd's first few albums were your standard rap affair, until Chaxsthexry, where he develops his more hardcore Signature Style further, and by Lxrdszn, it becomes his default style.
  • After experimenting with softer songs on FANTASY VXID, Scarlxrd returns to his Heavy Metal influenced sound with DXXM II and DeadRising, and boy, he returns with a vengeance, as those albums are significantly heavier than his previous Metal-influenced work.
  • PENANCE, the follow-up to TRAPLXRD, switches the trap and electronic sound to a darker and heavier shoegaze sound featuring emotionally charged lyrics, grungy riffs, and even blast beats here and there.
• Deliberately Monochrome: The music videos for "Evil Egx" and "Can't Die".
• Dirty Coward: "Cxward".

• Doomy Dooms of Doom: The DXXM albums, which focus on a heavier sound.
• Early-Installment Weirdness: His early music was your typical gangster rap, about getting bitches and cash set to standard beats with tame vocals. Chaxsthexry is when he starts developing his now signature Trap Metal style with screams on every song.
• Epic Rocking:
  • His longest song is "War 2", clocking in at 5:30, which is shorter than other examples of this trope, but is still relatively long compared to his other songs which are usually half that.
  • Even though his songs can be short in length, he makes up for it by putting lots of them on his albums, resulting in them having large runtimes. His longest album to date is All Fxr Nxthing at 1 hour and 13 minutes, and packing in a whopping 30 songs, barely beating out his second longest album Acquired Taste, Vxl. 2 which was 1 hour and 12 minutes and had 27 songs.
• Exactly What It Says on the Tin: TRAPLXRD is, needless to say, a trap album. Although Trap is a large part of Scar’s sound, TRAPLXRD is one of his few albums that’s stricly Trap with no metal influences anywhere.
• Eye Scream: "Bane".

• Face on the Cover: Many of his post-Made in Hell releases, such as the 2024 EPs and the MxstHated / Sxld My Sxul single have Scar’s face serve as the cover art.
• Fading into the Next Song: Nearly every song from DeadRising does this.
• Freak Out:
  • Scarlxrd has a screaming fit at the end of “I WANT TX SEE YXU BLEED”. He apologizes for it afterwards, before repeating the chorus one more time
  So sorry, that right there, is a mental breakdown on the track. My bad.
  • “Anti-Prxgress” is basically the above mentioned breakdown if it was the entire song.
• Fun with Acronyms: The title of Track 5 from DXXM II, "Ngafiyd", is an acronym standing for "Nobody Gives A Fuck If You Die".
• Genre Shift: He often does this with his albums, but he occasionally does this mid-song too, with “Black Rxses” switching from Trap Metal to perishing Alt-Rock halfway through, as well as “Nightcrawler” and “Criminal” going from rap to Nu Metal towards the end.
• Gratuitous Japanese: His Self-Titled Album has his name transcribed in Japanese. The Japanese translation of his name also appears at the start of many of his music videos.
• Gratuitous Russian:
  • Scar’s EP with Ghostemane, LXRDMAGE, has all of its song titles spelled in Russian.
  • He screams out "Ебать тебя"^note "fuck you" in "JUMP!!!!"
• Heavy Metal: A major influence to his sound. He has even made songs that are entirely metal rather than only having elements of it, such as "TERRAFXRM", "Hate Sxng 2", "Destrxy Sxmething Beautiful", "SHAME XN ME", "Metexr Shxwer", and every song on PENANCE, especially “War 2” which is a full blown deathcore track.
• I Have Many Names: Listhrop has made many different alter-egos throughout the years; "Mazzie Maz", "Scarlxrd", "SPRNKLZ", "TAKA LXRD", "Lucas Hector", and "krxnxs". He also goes by "Phil" on his Discord server.
• Important Haircut: He shaved his locks in 2023, around the release of Made in Hell. He has claimed that everything he has made from this period onwards is the best work of his career.
• Indecipherable Lyrics: "Pussybxyrun" is rapped at such an intense speed that it almost sounds like gibberish.
• Intercourse with You: A common song topic of his. Particularly vulgar examples are "Gin Shxt", "Rated R", "Gxxey-Gxxey", and "MISA MISA!"
• Lampshade Hanging:
  • “dx dead pexple dream?” has a meta line about his vocals.
  They say “Scar, you scream too much”, I’m like “BITCH, I KNOW!”
  • Two of albums are named "Acquired Taste", referencing how divisive his music can be.
• Laughing Mad: Heard in the intro to "6 FEET".
• Lighter and Softer:
  • Downplayed with FANTASY VXID, as it still has his usual screaming vocals, but the instrumentals are much softer, implementing chill beats, clean guitar, and piano passages.
  • TRAPLXRD cuts back on his metal style in favor of a softer, more mainstream Trap style reminiscent of music from Opium.
• Lyrical Cold Open: "LIVING LEGEND".

• Madness Mantra: A lot of the songs on DeadRising repeat their titles and verses over and over, giving off this effect.
• Motor Mouth:
  • Scar is capable of rapping at lightning-fast speed, as heard on "BERZERK", "XKAY I LIED, I'M LXST AF", "Dr. Dxxm", "Pussybxyrun", and "Atxmic-Bxmb".
  • "Red Light" contains his fastest bars yet in the second verse, clocking in at over 10.3 syllables spoken per second!
• Miniscule Rocking: His five shortest tracks are "Life?" (1:38), "FACT/FICTIXN" (1:38), "HARDWIRED" (1:34), "Rated R" (1:29), and "Fight the Feeling" (1:18).
• Mean Character, Nice Actor: The character of Scarlxrd is a terrifying, unhinged psycho, but as seen on various vlogs and on Anthony Padilla’s podcast, the man behind the mask is a well-spoken and friendly gentleman who is amazing to fans and truly dedicated to his work.
• Metal Scream:
  • Scarlxrd’s screams are usually high-pitched, throat-shredding Type 3s.
  • Some songs like “SEARCH AND DESTRXY”, “TERRAFXRM”, and “Shadxws” include Type 2 death growls, as well as many songs from DXXM having those growls as harmonic vocals.
  • After receiving vocal lessons from Tom Barber, Scar started using terrifying deathcore screams that are a cross between Type 2 and Type 3. They can be heard throughout the 2024 EPs and onwards.
  • He even pulled off Type 4 Heavy Metal yells on “FFS FREESTYLE”.
• Minimalistic Cover Art:
  • SCARHXURS’ cover is simply a razor in front of a black background, with the text “Sex sells. Hate sells mxre. War sells mxst.” hidden next to it.
  • TRAPLXRD’s cover art is just a selfie of Scarlxrd.
• Mo' Money, Mo' Problems: "YXU’RE TXX ANGRY" and "XKAY I LIED, I’M LXST AF" have Scar complain that, despite being wealthy, he’s still lost and unsatisfied with his life.

• Multi National Team: Scarlxrd works with many different producers from various countries.
  • Muppy (most songs on DXXM and Made in Hell), Brutei (“Lxuder”, “Cxffins”), and Scarlxrd himself are from England.
  • PULSE (most songs on SCARHXURS) is from Germany.
  • MUNEYLXRD (“NEW LEVEL”, “Pussybxyrun”) is from Greece.
  • WNDWS (“SICK XF SILENCE”, “Let the Wxrld Burn”) is from Finland.

• New Sound Album:
  • As mentioned in Darker and Edgier above, Chaxsthexry and Lxrdszn marked Scarlxrd’s switch from typical gangsta rap to Trap Metal with screaming as the default vocal style.
  • All his albums from 2019 switch the instrumentals to softer, more casual beats, though they maintain his harsh vocals.
  • SCARHXURS returns to his metal-influenced hardcore rap, and brings along some elements of drill and industrial.
  • FANTASY VXID combines his hardcore rap sound with a softer alt-rock sound with clean guitars and piano. The more traditional songs combine the casual beats of his 2019 albums and the drill from SCARHXURS.
  • DXXM II and DeadRising once again return to his Trap Metal sound, this time with an even bigger Heavy Metal influence, with some songs being full blown metal with original guitar riffs from producer Brian Spencer / Riff Grimez.
  • PSYCHX, a collaborative album with Kordhell, has a phonk inspired sound.
  • Made in Hell has a darker, harsher, and more abrasive and atmospheric sound, which often switches into soft and autotuned perishing alt-rock.
  • TRAPLXRD has a SoundCloud trap rap style mixed with noise and electronic.
  • The EP PENANCE is shoegaze and grunge themed, with Scar citing Deftones, Arctic Monkeys, and Bloc Party as inspirations behind it.

  • He was once the lead singer of a nu metal band called Myth City. After they broke up, Scar continued to use the genre as an influence to his sound.
  • He is heavily inspired by Slipknot, saying that his career as Scarlxrd wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for them.
  • The 2024 EPs have moments that wouldn’t sound out of place on an album from Limp Bizkit.
  • Most of PENANCE has this sound mixed with shoegaze, with catchy guitar riffs and crooning vocals explicitly inspired by Deftones.
• Off with His Head!: Scar threatens to do this in “Xmni-Man.”
  So choose to ascend, or your head’s getting SEVERED!
• Omnicidal Maniac: “Utxpia = Mass Genxcide”, much like how the title suggests, is about Scar wanting to rack up a massive death toll because people don’t like him.
• Perishing Alt-Rock Voice: His vocals on FANTASY VXID are a cross between this and his screams.
• Portmanteau: The European tour to promote both DXXM II and DeadRising was called the “DXXMRising Tour.”
• Questioning Title?: "What’s With Yxu?", "dx dead pexple dream?", "WHY? LISTEN?", "Dx I Still Dream?", "Life?", "IsThisReal?", Lxlwut?, "MISS ME?", and "Feel Wxrthless?"
• Rap Metal: His main style of music, although he has veered further into both directions, with his 2019 albums being more rap than metal, and his 2021 albums being more metal than rap.
• Recycled Lyrics: “Red Light” reuses the “Demons in my penthouse” lyric from “6 FEET”, as a Call-Back.
• Sampling:
  • “Heart Attack” samples the car crash scene from Vanilla Sky.
  • “TERRAFXRM” samples the main riff from “Elitist Ones” by Whitechapel.
  • Dialogue from various anime have been sampled over the years too.
• Scary Black Man: Undoubtedly. The persona of Scarlxrd is that of an feral lunatic who looks and sounds like he’ll tear you to pieces at any moment. Even when not in character, he is still heavily tatted and muscular, still looking like a man you don’t want to fuck with.
• Self-Titled Album: His fourth studio album was self-titled, albeit spelled in Japanese.
• Sensory Abuse:
  • The music video for “LIES YXU TELL” has extreme flashing white lights towards the end, warranting a seizure warning at the beginning of the video.
  • The beat drop in “Run!” is an overwhelming barrage of very loud and powerful 808’s. It almost sounds like the song grew arms and started punching you in the head.
  • Any song produced by PULSE will have deafening basslines and 808s that sound like buzzing motors, a few examples being “MAKING A KILLING”, “NXNSTXP”, “Red Light”, “Stuck in My Mind”, and “Mxrbid”.
  “Aye PULSE, this shit slaps!”
• Sequel Song:
  • "Hate Sxng 1" from CABIN FEVER, got its sequel, "Hate Sxng 2", 5 years later on DeadRising.
  • The song "dx dead pexple dream?" off of DXXM received a follow-up / Call-Back on DXXM II called "Dx I Still Dream?".
  • "I’M NXT LXST" from Acquired Taste, Vxl. 1 received one on SCARHXURS, called "XKAY I LIED, I’M LXST AF."
  • "Red Light" is one to "6 FEET." The flow is similar, the way Scar yells the Title Drop repeatedly is in the same speed and tone of how he did so on "6 FEET," and there’s a callback to the "demons in my penthouse."
  • "War" from Lxrdszn got a sequel, "War 2" on the EP PENANCE.
• Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll: "MISA MISA" has a line about this.
  Goth bitch wanna fuck a rockstar, I’mma do that shit!
• Signature Style: Intense Rap Metal using brutal screams coupled with heavy metal inspired guitar riffs and trapbeats.
• Singing Voice Dissonance: This is played straight whenever Scarlxrd does harsh vocals, as his screams are much higher (or depending on the song, lower) pitched than his speaking voice and his British accent is absent. It's averted when he raps cleanly, and his British accent sounded more clear on his earlier albums.
• Sir Swears-a-Lot: He is extremely generous with his usage of F-bombs and other swear words. Some of the very rare exceptions are "DEMXNS AND ANGELS", "SICK WITH REGRET", "ESCAPE", "SICK XF SILENCE", and "LIL T-REX".
• Shout-Out:
  • Some songs are named after various movies and TV shows, such as "THE PURGE", "The Walking Dead", "Xmni-Man", "cxnquest", "Thragg", "The Rumbling", "Yujirx's Theme", "ULTRA EGX VEGETA", and "Evangelixn". He's also not above naming songs after Hentai, if "Bible Black" is any indication.
  • His signature surgical mask is inspired by Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul.
  • Some songs sample dialogue from anime, such as "LIES YXU TELL" sampling JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Attack on Titan, and "Chain$aw" sampling Tokyo Ghoul.
  • "save yxurself" has a reference to Outlast, which Scar plays on his livestreams.
  Must’ve forget this ain’t Outlast, you dickhead!
• Suddenly Shouting:
  • Done frequently, "CHXKE" being one of many examples.
    Hurt yourself some more like you can't feel a THING!
  • Another example is "Feel Wxrthless?":

• Take That!: "HELL IS XN EARTH" throws shade at the Belinda Carlisle song "Heaven Is a Place on Earth", claiming that it's in fact quite the opposite.
  Heaven's not a place on Earth, EARTH IS A PLACE IN HELL!
• Take That, Critics!:
  • "Shadxws" has a bar where Scar fires back at people who didn’t like PSYCHX, and points out that it was still a hit regardless.
  I said I level up, I got 'em tripping on the last shit
  Fuck ‘em, so what? Scar went pop-phonk, numbers went up!
  • "FXXL4YXU", the song where Scarlxrd raps over a Discord fan’s beat has a line where he insults haters on Reddit.
  HATIN’ ME ON REDDIT CAUSE YOU GOT A FLOPPY DICK!
  • Whenever a fan criticizes Scarlxrd on his dedicated subreddit, there’s a chance someone will show him through his Discord, where he proceeds to roast the OP.

• Title-Only Chorus: "YXU MAKE ME SICK", "I CAN DX WHAT I WANT", "Red Light", "Can’t Die", and "Life is a Lie".
• The Oner:
  • Most of the videos for FANTASY VXID are a single continuous shot of Scar rapping the song.
  • If the intros are to be believed, "TELL ME YXU LXVE ME", "GXLD", and "Red Light" were recorded in one take.
• The Power of Hate: He has not one, but two songs called “Hate Sxng”, and the second one is significantly angrier and more full of hate than the first.
• Vocal Tag Team: Starting with Made in Hell, many songs feature additional ad-libs from Scar’s girlfriend Gina Savage and Corpse Husband. DJ Jacky P also provides some exclusively on TRAPLXRD.

• Voice of the Legion:
  • Scar occasionally does death growls which can sound downright evil, such as the low pitched, harmonizing ones on DXXM.
  • “SEARCH AND DESTRXY” is an entire song performed with only death growls.
  • The faster, mid-range screeches on “Metexr Shxwer” sound like Scar got possessed by a demon.
• "X" Makes Anything Cool: All of his song and album titles, as well as his name, replace the “O’s” with “X’s”, so songs like “Boiling Point” and “Cold Blooded” are spelled “BXILING PXINT” and “CXLD BLXXDED”.
• Wham Line: "Paradise Lxst" has a bar revealing that Scar has become a father.
