Chaeyoung (Music)
Believe me, try me, and bite me just once.

Son Chae-young (Hangul: 손채영 — born April 23, 1999 in Seoul, South Korea), known professionally as Chaeyoung, is a South Korean singer and rapper best known for being the main rapper of K-pop girl group TWICE. Chaeyoung was the first Twice member to receive a writing credit for one of the group's songs ("Precious Love" from Page Two, co-written with J.Y. Park). She also designed the group's official logo.

Even at debut, Chaeyoung's love of drawing stood out. She has said her art style is heavily influenced by Tim Burton. She is also known for her willingness to flout Korean norms by getting several tattoos, all of which she designed.

In June 2025, JYP Entertainment announced that Chaeyoung would be the fourth twice member to have a solo debut (after Nayeon in 2022, Jihyo in 2023, and Tzuyu in 2024). Her debut solo album, LIL FANTASY vol. 1, was released on September 12, 2025. Chaeyoung notably had a very active role in the creative process; every track on the album gives her a writing credit, and physical editions of the album prominently feature her own artwork. Her solo work is a mix of R&B and bedroom pop.

In November 2025, on the eve of TWICE's 6th world tour and long-awaited first performance in Taiwan, JYPE announced Chaeyoung had been diagnosed with vasovagal syncope, a nerve condition causing one's blood pressure & heart rate to suddenly crash, leading to fainting spells. So, she would be on hiatus until at least the end of the year to receive treatment. She returns to the tour on January 2026 just in time for the North American leg of the tour.

Not to be confused with BLACKPINK member Rosé (Korean name Park Chaeyoung) or fromis_9 member Lee Chaeyoung.

Trope from my heart:

  • Album Closure: The digital edition of LIL FANTASY vol. 1 ends with acoustic ballad "My Guitar".
  • Breaking Old Trends:
    • LIL FANTASY vol. 1 is the first solo full album by a TWICE member. All of the previous Twice member solo albums were mini-albums.
    • LIL FANTASY vol. 1 is the first Twice-related release to give the Twice member a writing credit on every track. By extension, "Shoot (Firecracker)" is the first solo title track and first title track on a Korean release to give the member credit (after the Japanese title track "Celebrate", which credited the whole group).
    • "Shoot (Firecracker)" is the first English-language title track by a Twice soloist (though the group already had two English title tracks). By extension, the English songs on the album are the first ones to have a writing credit for a Twice member.
  • Face on the Cover: The digital cover of LIL FANTASY vol. 1 has Chaeyoung kneeling on a stair while holding a candle.
  • Food Eats You: The "Avocado" video has Chaeyoung as a waitress get eaten by an avocado pit and sucked into a fantasy world while trying to serve Gliiico avocado toast.
  • Heart Hands Pose: Chaeyoung in the "Avocado" video positions her hands into a heart shape as she blasts beams that turn the giant fruits into Gliiico.
  • I Fell for Hours: Chaeyoung in the "Avocado" video falls long enough to move and sing before reaching the bottom of the hole.
  • Miniscule Rocking: "Downpour" (1:49) and "BF" (1:31). LIL FANTASY vol. 1 as a whole (sans CD bonus track "Lonely Doll Waltz") is only 21 minutes long despite having nine tracks, making it a bit shorter than Nayeon's and Jihyo's mini-albums, as none of the songs reach the three-minute mark (and only one goes anywhere near it).
  • Nobility Hennin: Chaeyoung wears a hennin for the "sparkle" edition of LIL FANTASY vol. 1 as part of the princess/fantasy theme. It even turns up in her artwork.
  • Ominous Floating Castle: Inverted in the "Avocado" video. The castle in the clouds at the end is portrayed as inviting as Chaeyoung flies towards it.
  • Singer-Songwriter: Chaeyoung has 27 lyricist credits and 10 composition credits (for "How U Doin'", her "Pop Star" remix and her solo album)
  • Solo Side Project: Chaeyoung continues to be, first and foremost, a member of TWICE. LIL FANTASY vol. 1 was released during the tour for THIS IS FOR.
  • Surreal Music Video: "Avocado", from the part where the avocado pit grows into a monster and eats Chaeyoung. She briefly turns into a doll with a heart-shaped tattoo around her eye as she falls down a deep hole and back into a human before she gets to the bottom. From there, she is in a Lewis Carroll-type fantasy land where she picks giant fruits and turns them into Gliico. Near the end, she sees a castle in the clouds and magically changes clothes by spinning as she starts flying toward it.
  • Tamer and Chaster: Chaeyoung's solo work has noticeably less fanservice compared to the solo works of Nayeon, Jihyo, and (to a lesser extent) Tzuyu.
  • Title 1: LIL FANTASY vol. 1
  • Translated Cover Version: Chaeyoung is credited as translator/lyricist for the part-Korean version of "The Feels" that appeared as a bonus track at the end of Formula Of Love.
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!: Jibin of Y2K92 raps on the chorus of "Ribbons". Ironically, Chaeyoung herself doesn't rap at all on LIL FANTASY vol. 1 despite being TWICE's main rapper.
