Not to be confused with Unisex Tropes, which deal with sex-the-category rather than sex-the-act. Nor with No Biological Sex, which is similarly about innate physical characteristics rather than about what one might choose to do with them.

Tropes that avert sex tropes — inadvertent, happenstance sexlessness:
- Celibate Eccentric Genius: An eccentric genius who's uninterested in sex.
- Chaste Hero: A hero is clueless about love or lust.
- Chaste Toons: If cartoon characters have small children around, it's their nephews and nieces, avoiding the implication that they would ever procreate.
- Children Are Innocent: Children have no budding sexuality.
- Crippling Castration: The victim of this attack is definitely never having sex again.
- Eunuchs Are Evil: If he has no sex organs, he may as well become a villain.
- Locked Away in a Monastery: Dealing with an inconvenient person by sending them off to live in a cloister, where they will probably have to take a Vow of Celibacy.
- No Love for the Wicked: An evil character who is asexual.
- No Time for Love: A character who has no time for romance and dating for various reasons.
- Maiden Aunt: An older female relative who never married.
- No Hugging, No Kissing: There's no sexuality or romance in a work.
- Old People are Nonsexual: Old people don't have sex.
- Oblivious to Love: A character is clueless about someone's interest in them.
- Sexless Marriage: A couple who no longer has sex.
- Sexy Villains, Chaste Heroes: Heroes are chaster than villains.
- Token Wholesome: A modestly-dressed character in a Fanservice heavy cast.
- Truly Single Parent: Someone uses Applied Phlebotinum or Mad Science to have a child without sexual reproduction involved.
- You Need to Get Laid: Someone's poor mood or excessive nerdiness is attributed to a lack of sexual activity.
Tropes that defy sex tropes — characters being deliberately chaste:
- All Women Are Prudes: The gender stereotype that women in general lack a sex drive.
- But I Would Really Enjoy It: A character deliberately refrains from sex for an honorable reason, but is really horny.
- Can't Have Sex, Ever: For some reason, this particular person or couple having sex would cause disaster to ensue.
- Celibate Hero: A hero who avoids all romantic relationships.
- The Chaperone: A third party supervises a romantic couple to make sure things stay chaste.
- Chaste Separating Sword: A sword lain between bedmates to signify chaste bedsharing.
- Chastity Belt: An (apocryphal) medieval device that's locked on someone's genitals to prevent infidelity.
- Chastity Couple: A romantic but celibate Official Couple.
- Chastity Dagger: A woman carries a concealed dagger to defend her chastity against any would-be assailants.
- Contractual Purity: A celebrity is required to preserve their public image by never engaging in Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll.
- Courtly Love: A romantic affair that is ideally never consummated.
- Exiled to the Couch: A couple going through a rough patch refuses to share a bed.
- Hates Being Touched: A person with a strong aversion to physical contact, generally including sex.
- Let's Wait a While: A couple decides to hold off on Their First Time.
- Lysistrata Gambit: Withholding sex from a sexual partner until they do X.
- Madonna-Whore Complex: The False Dichotomy in which women are perceived as either totally pure and chaste, or totally corrupt and promiscuous.
- Matron Chaperone: An older woman whose job is to supervise a young lady and make sure she's never alone with any potential love interests.
- No Pregger Sex: Abstaining from sex during pregnancy.
- Non-Sexual Intimacy: Affectionate gestures that show closeness without being sexual.
- No Sex Allowed: All sex is forbidden under penalty of law.
- Paralyzing Fear of Sexuality: A character may have sexual feelings, but is too afraid to ever act on them.
- Platonic Declaration of Love: A person saying "I love you" to someone they have no sexual or romantic feelings for.
- Platonic Kissing: Kissing for reasons other than sexual attraction.
- Platonic Prostitution: Someone hires a sex worker to do more innocent work.
- Platonic Valentine: Someone celebrates Valentine’s Day with a person they love non-sexually.
- Sleeping Single: A married couple sleeping in two separate beds.
- Sour Prudes: A character who doesn't have sex looks down on people who indulge.
- Straight Edge Evil: A villain who abstains from sex, drugs, and everything fun.
- Taking the Veil: A woman has a Turn to Religion and becomes a nun, with the Vow of Celibacy included.
- Tamer and Chaster: A later installment/incarnation is significantly less sexual.
- Unexpectedly Prudish: A character turns out to be prudish when other aspects of their personality suggest they wouldn't be.
- Vow of Celibacy: A vow not to have sex.
