Ammo Resupply

Go To

An item or ability that replenishes ammunition. It is invaluable during and between battles, providing ammo without the need to go to a distant safe area or resupply area, scavenging for supplies, or obtaining from enemies. This can take the form of the examples below:

  1. An ability or deployable item that players can use to replenish ammunition for themselves and their teammates. In rare instances, the ammunition provided will have additional effects. As a deployable item, it can take the form of a box of ammunition placed on the ground or a supply drop from an airborne vehicle.
  2. Gradual Regeneration of ammunition that is in effect all the time or requires a period of time that ammunition is not used. This is often an attribute of Energy Weapons with a recharging battery of sorts.

See also Item Caddy and Easy Logistics. Compare and contrast Bottomless Magazines, which sometimes results from a resupply ability.

Examples:

Video Games
  • ANNO: Mutationem:
    • Ann can perform Item Crafting to create ammo for her secondary weapons after obtaining enough of the materials to craft ammunition.
    • In the Mysterious Console DLC, weapon ammunition can be stored by examining Randomly Generated Loot.
  • Battlefield:
    • Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam feature static ammo boxes at deployment and near map objectives.
    • In most titles after Battlefield 2 the Support class is able to throw ammo bags to other players or deploy static ammo crates.
  • Bayonetta: It's All There in the Manual: Her custom guns don't have any magazines because she's making the bullets out of her spirit power channeled through the gemstone built into the gun, and they're being placed directly into the chamber without the need for storage.
  • Borderlands: A few skills and class mods provide ammo regeneration. The most benefit is from Roland's Support Gunner class mod, which provides regeneration for the whole team.
  • Brink!: Players with the Soldier class can distribute ammo packs to their teammates, and at higher levels can take the "Extra Magazine" skill to increase their and their teammates maximum ammo capacity.
  • Broforce: Ammo crates (marked by having an American flag on them) will produce Ammo Drops when destroyed, which allows you to replenish any missing charges of your current Bro's special ability up to the maximum. There are certain special Ammo Drops that give a limited-use special ability on top of replenishing your ammo (using a remote-controlled toy car with a bomb attached, calling in an air strike, etc.) that can be unlocked by completing the bonus Covert Ops missions.
  • Bullet Witch: Alicia's bullets are made from her magic as needed.
  • Clive Barker's Jericho: Corporal Simone Cole is able to reload her teammates' ammunition through manipulating space and time.
  • Deep Rock Galactic: If you collect at least 80 Nitra, you can spend it to call a Resupply Pod to the targeted location. It comes with four resupplies that restore 50% of your ammo and health.
  • Dirty Bomb: The Fire Support class can provide ammunition for themselves and their teammates, either by throwing ammo boxes on the ground, deploying an ammo station, or having their Ammunition Backpack resupply anyone nearby.
  • Doom: In Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, the Chainsaw turns any enemy it kills into a Piñata Enemy, dropping a ton of ammo pickups for the Slayer's guns.
  • Dummies Vs Noobs:
    • The Ammo Fabricator fabricates ammo in exchange for Reserves, allowing players to replenish their Universal Ammunition.
    • The Ammo Box is a utility item that fully refills the ammo for PDC Kits. It can be upgraded into the Combat Toolkit, which also repairs as well as refills but can also increase the damage and fire rate, or the PROXY, which allows for remote refills and repairs.
  • Earth2150: Supply aircraft will fly to tanks that are running low on ammo, and replenish them. Aircraft instead have to return to the supply depot to reload.
  • The End Times: Vermintide and Vermintide II:
    • In the sequel, the Ranger Veteran's passive ability creates a lesser ammunition pouch (providing only a partial refill) whenever a special enemy is killed.
    • Several ranged weapon traits and (in the sequel) character abilities refund the ammunition from a shot, such as Scrounger weapons (on a Critical Hit) or the Huntsman career (on any ranged headshot).
    • The sequel has three DLC-exclusive ranged weapons with unique ammunition creation mechanics. Briar Javelins and Throwing Axes replenish by holding the Reload button, to a maximum of three; the Moonfire Bow creates arrows from a small energy pool with Gradual Regeneration and a significant lag whenever the pool is exhausted.
  • Enter the Gungeon: The Marine starts off with a single-use Supply Drop as his active item which calls down an ammo crate.
  • Fallout:
    • The Solar Scorcher in Fallout 1 will gradually recharge itself while in sunlight rather than using energy cells.
    • The Recharger Rifle in Fallout: New Vegas also gradually recharges itself, though sunlight is no longer needed.
  • FreeSpace: You and your wingmates may call in a support ship to resupply missiles, and repair subsystem damage.
  • Gun Witch: Beretta's ammo is her Mana Meter and she has Regenerating Mana.
  • Helldivers: The Resupply Stratagem allows any Helldiver to call upon a Hellpod containing two supply boxes, which refills each player's ammunition and grenades. Additionally, the Supply Pack is a backpack Strategem that allows a player to carry supply boxes with them to supplement their team.
  • Helldivers II: Like the first game, both the Resupply and Supply Pack are still available to you, though Resupply is no longer a dedicated Stratagem you have to bring with you and is instead freely available in lieu of taking up a slot (and even has four supply packs, one for each member of your squad, rather than the first game's mere two).
  • Hell Let Loose:
    • The Rifleman and Support classes have loadouts with access to ammunition boxes that allow for a full resupply of either small arms or explosive ammo.
    • One of the airdrops that can be called in by the Commander class is the Ammo Supply Drop, which can replenish the small arms and explosive ammo of both friendly and enemy units.
    • Jeeps each carry two ammunition crates of small arms ammo, allowing Infantry and Recon units on or near the frontline to replenish their depleted ammo reserves.
  • Left 4 Dead 2: Ammunition Upgrades are ammo boxes that can be found, carried, and deployed by players to upgrade their primary weapons with incendiary or explosive rounds depending on the type of upgrade.
  • Marvel Rivals: Rocket Racoon's team-up ability allows him to provide infinite ammo for the Punisher and Winter Soldier (during Season 0-1).
  • Mass Effect 3: In multiplayer, the Demolisher Engineer can deploy a support pylon that periodically spawns thermal clips and grenades that the engineer or other squad members can use to replenish their stock.
  • Mecha BREAK: In Mashmak, players can use Ammo Resupply Beacons to deploy containers to their location with ammunition for their weapons.
  • Metroid: Starting in Metroid II: Return of Samus, Samus can come across stations that can replenish her missile supply. These return in Super Metroid, but only replenish regular missiles and not Super Missiles and Power Bombs. However, Samus' gunship can replenish all of her ammo in addition to her health. Metroid Fusion onward has recharge stations replenish everything no matter what.
    • Metroid: Other M brings back recharge stations but instead of enemies dropping ammo pickups, Samus instead replenishes her own missile supply by using an ability called Concentration.
  • Nintendo Wars: Jess from Black Hole Rising and Dual Strike and Admiral Greyfield from Days of Ruin have CO Powers that replenish ammo and fuel for all of their units.
  • PAYDAY: The Heist: A deployable ammo bag allows players to restore their ammunition, instead of having to find ammo dropped by the police.
  • PAYDAY 2: The Ammo Bag deployable lets players place a bag of ammo for anyone on their team to refill their ammo from. Certain skills increase the effectiveness of it, such as allowing the ammo bag to hold more ammo, allowing the player to place two ammo bags instead of one, and giving the refilling player up to 15 seconds of infinite ammo after using the ammo bag. Ammo bags can also be pre-placed as an asset on most Loud heists, though these don't benefit from skills.
  • Quake III Team Arena: The Ammo-regen will automatically replenish ammunition to starter values, but at a slower rate than what can be fired.
  • Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad: The machine gunner class has the ability to receive additional belts or magazines from other players, with the latter having to simply approach the friendly gunner and then press the F key to supply them with the extra ammo.
  • Rising Storm: Much like the base game, US and Japanese machine gunners can receive extra magazines or belts from friendly players, with the latter simply having to approach the gunner and hand the ammo to them by pressing the F key.
  • Squirrel with a Gun: While riding on a vehicle, the ammunition for whatever gun the squirrel is carrying will slowly replenish.
  • Team Fortress 2:
    • The Engineer can build Dispensers, which both restore the health of nearby teammates and restock their ammo. Upgrading a Dispenser allows it to regenerate health and ammo at a faster rate.
    • In Payload mode, the payload cart acts as a level 1 Dispenser for the characters pushing it.
  • Tie Fighter introduced ships that can be ordered to resupply the player's secondary weapons, appearing on some missions.
  • UFO 50: In Mortol 2, the gunner's special move is leaving behind ammo packs for subsequent allies to collect. These packs refill the ammo completely.
  • Warframe:
    • Squad Ammo Restore is a craftable item that restores ammo over a period of time, the amount of which depends on the size, consisting of small, medium, and large.
    • Cyte-09's Resupply ability throws two Elemental Ammo Packs that instantly refill the active weapon's magazine, while granting the weapon an additional instance of the selected Elemental Damage and Status Effect.
    • Downplayed for Lavos's Transmutation Probe, which in addition to applying status procs and turning all health and energy orbs into universal orbs that restore both, turns all ammo packs on the ground into universal ammo which can be used by anything, including archguns.
    • Protea's Dispensary similarly creates universal ammo packs, in addition to health and energy orbs, though it one-ups Transmutation Probe by making them from effectively nothing besides energy.
    • Certain mods will reload weapons upon being holstered by a certain amount over time, although they don't replenish the ammunition in reserve.
    • Certain weapons such as the Basmu, Shedu, Bubonico, Cycron, and Plinx will gradually replenish their magazine after a certain period of time after not firing.

Non-Video Games

  • Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition:
    • The early game stats for the Lizard Folk portray them as a Barbarian Tribe, including a unique Item Crafting ability to make Blow Gun needles or darts (among other simple weapons) from the body of a slain creature during a short rest.
    • The Artificer's Repeating Shot Infusion allows the ranged weapon it's placed on to magically create a new piece of ammunition automatically whenever it's aimed, which vanishes after the attack has been made.
    • The Dragonwing Bow is a type of magic bow (available as a longbow, shortbow, or crossbow) that automatically makes its own magical ammunition.
  • Generator Rex: Rex's Slam Cannon grabs rubble and shoots that. In one episode, a fight in a bowling alley featured him treating the Pack to a brief bombardment of bowling balls. He also used it to shoot Ben 10 in their crossover.
  • A Hunter or Something: The Type three portable ammunition fabricator, a portable dust-power machine capable of taking different raw materials such as rocks, sticks and pieces of metal and making low-quality dust bullets or simple arrows that allow the user to never run out of ammunition and run for months. Jaune has one that was given to him by his family on his fifteenth birthday.
  • Magical Girl Witch Trials: Nanoka's rifle can only hold six bullets at a time, but is enchanted to replenish ammunition at the rate of one bullet per day. This screws over Sherry in one of the bad endings when they try Counting Bullets, dodging every shot only to let their guard down when they assume she's out of ammo.
  • In the anime version of Medabots, it is possible for Medafighters to transport ammo to their Medabots just as they can parts, and indeed the Medabots themselves; however it is against the rules to do so in the middle of a robattle. But the Rouge Medafighters seen in Season 3 don't care to abide by these rules, and are frequently shown to reload their ammo in the middle of a fight.
  • Princesses of the Pizza Parlor: Gwen's endless quiver of arrows makes its arrows out of magic, presumably remaking them soon after use.
  • Princess: The Hopeful: Firearms created by the Levinbolt Charm generate ammo as they're fired and don't need to reload.
  • The Film/Starship Troopers|1997 miniatures game by Mongoose Publishing had an ammo mechanic for the Mobile Infantry that affected their most powerful weapons (rocket and grenade launchers, mounted cannons and assault rifles if fired on full auto for too long), meaning that purchasing ammo depots as structures or soldiers with the ability to summon ammo drops was necessary in long combats.
