Cursed Princess Club

Go To

This is the story of a princess learning how to love herself, so there's bound to be heartwarming moments abound:

  • The CPC's Big Sister Instinct towards Gwen, in general. Even though she's not actually cursed, Prez invites her to come back because she thinks they can help her with her issues. When Gwen ends up sobbing after revealing she overheard Frederick calling her ugly, Syrah encourages her to let it all out, while the other princesses either comfort her or point out she shouldn't take that lying down.
  • In Chapter 45, after seeing the Plaid maids' horrific makeover of Gwen for Lance's 20th birthday bash (they did try their best to make Gwen look beautiful, but her hair and complexion had a severe reaction to the same styling products they used for her sisters), Maria and Lorena step in to give Gwen a more flattering makeover. And it works to the point that Gwen doesn't even see her cracked reflection in the mirror.
  • Queen Lilyth (Leelathae)’s reaction to seeing Gwen looking exactly like her after giving birth to her. She had been so worried about her children not being beautiful, but she instantly deemed Gwen beautiful the moment she laid eyes on her. Gwen's birth is the point where Leelathae learns to truly love herself.
  • Gwen wakes up from the 'eternal slumber' curse, not with "true love's kiss" from Frederick, but from herself after Leelathae's spirit assures her she's truly beautiful and gets her to do that by making Gwen kiss a Humpty Dumpty that has her face on it.
  • When word gets out about a prized crystal that has the ability to permanently remove a single curse that is being sold off at a raffle ticket event at the Cursed Ball, the CPC becomes obsessed over getting it in the slim hope that it actually works. Gwen walks in on everyone fighting and arguing over who gets to use it... But they're all arguing about why someone else in the CPC should get it instead of themselves.
    • Saffron argues that Abbi deserves it more because she should get to enjoy her youth without looking like an old lady, but Abbi counters that her curse is mainly superficial since she's still as young and healthy as any other 15-year-old.
    • Abbi argues that Syrah deserves it more since her nose makes her cursed status obvious when it grows, to which Syrah retorts that the only benefit she'll get from getting her curse removed will just enable her to lie more.
    • Syrah argues that Thermidora deserves it most since her curse renders her unable to reunite with her lobster lover under the sea. Thermidora counters that lobsters love eternally and live past a hundred years, so she's in no rush to be transformed back and knows Benedict still loves only her.
    • Thermidora proposes that the crystal should go to Aurelia, so she can finally have her true love's kiss without her lover's face melting off. Aurelia points out that she doesn't have any suitors lined up to kiss her at the moment and doesn't need that type of pressure on her.
    • Aurelia argues that the crystal should go to Prez, since her were-spider curse is dangerous to others and she openly admitted to hating it. Prez argues back that the crystal shouldn't be wasted on her since she only turns into a giant spider five days a month at most, and she's already found a way to contain her spider-self that's been foolproof so far with Curtis' help.
    • When the pressure of deciding who should get the crystal falls onto Gwen, and the crystal turns out to be nothing but a cheap piece of junk, Gwen admits that had the crystal been real, she would have given it to Nell, so she'd finally be free of her painful seizure-like premonitions of misfortune and death. Everyone is visibly touched, including Nell, who reassures her it's no big deal while everyone else agrees with her reasoning.
  • Nell and Jolie, a pair of cursed princesses, have a steady romantic relationship despite them being polar opposites in terms of personality and temperament. At the Curses Ball, Nell approaches Jolie's parents to ask for their blessing to give her their daughter's hand in marriage (they do, happily) while Jolie proposes by pulling a ring box and a "Marry Me Nell" banner out of her eye sockets, and the series finale shows them getting Happily Married.
    • The fact that Jolie's parents, the King and Queen of the Lace Kingdom, are Good Parents who still love and support their daughter despite her curse (which they were indirectly responsible for) can count as this, considering several other cursed princesses' parents either neglect them at best (Prez's, initially, and Renee's) or abuse them at worst (Nell's parents) due to said curses. Syrah's, Saffron's and Monika's families are also shown to be happy to see them at the Cursed Ball.
    • Judging from the way Jolie's father sweeps Nell up into a hug and happily welcomes her to the family after she accepts Jolie's proposal, he and his wife will be better family for Nell than her own Abusive Parents.
  • For all of Leland's faults, the one thing he could never do was call Leelathae ugly. Even when Jack was at his lowest and Leland in the future could have called her ugly to shatter him, he couldn't bring himself to do it. Even in the present day, among his plans for bitter vengeance, he gets extra angry when one of his sons dares call Gwen ugly, because she's so much like her mother.
  • Once Jack returns home, he reveals he realised from the blackmail note about how much he hurt his children and has given up honouring his late wife's wishes. He doesn't have the clam, and instead brought back something else: Leelathae's family and friends from the Braided Island so they can finally meet her children. They even got souvenirs for the kids that match each of the Pastel Royal children's characters!
    • He also states that if they wish so, he'll let them meet his birth parents, despite them parting on bad terms.
  • The "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue has some very notable points through 6 months Time Skip, such as:
    • Once Jack learned that Leelathae's spirit was still with them through a magical portrait, he cried for a whole week.
    • The kids are getting along with their newfound family, and Jamie and Leopold made more artwork so Leelathae could travel around the castle.
    • Jack held a celebration to acknowledge the people who helped defend the castle from the invasion by the Plaid Kingdom that was led by Leland.
    • While the citizens don't clap for the Cursed Princess Club members at first, their friends and families automatically do.
    • The forest of the Cursed Princess Club was declared a protected area by Jack, so it's never in danger of being invaded or torn down again.
    • Remember Themidora's lobster lover, Benedict? Turns out he willingly got himself cursed to be part human as well so he can be with her! Awww.... So sweet!
    • Aurelia turns out to have gotten together with Celso after their meeting at the castle, and it seems their relationship is going strong.
    • Maria got to fulfil her dream of singing her recital for everyone, which caught the eye of her idol, and they made a collab album together. Blaine is also shown to be attending, showing he hasn't forgotten her.
    • With the growing acknowledgement and support for the Cursed Princess Club, Prez is looking to expand the CPC help more people who are cursed, starting with the construction of an official multipurpose building right in the middle of town. Monika and Gwen also find a way to contribute and pursue their interests by opening up their own jewellery and bakery market stands in there, respectively.
    • As for Gwen, she no longer sees cracks in her reflection in the mirror and is happy with Frederick, who has also already overcome his fear of sunflowers.
  • The final words of the story are Leelathae's note for her children that was kept hidden in her portrait, which perfectly captures the message of self-love and inner beauty this webcomic series has been about:
Lilyth: To my darlings... If you are reading this, then all has gone well, and I have been able to witness you becoming the wonderful people you are today. This letter is for everyone to read, but as the current reigning queen of the Pastel Kingdom, I have a duty to deliver this message to you girls... Just as Jack's mother, the former Pastel Queen, did for me within the walls of this palace... regarding this family's longstanding quest for everlasting beauty. I am proud to inform you that when the four of you were born, their dreams finally came to fruition... for you, my darlings, are the most beautiful in all the land. But contrary to their treatises, eternal beauty has nothing to do with the birds that flock to be near you, nor is it the flowers that bloom in your path, or the light that stands all around you. These are all incredible blessings of beauty. And they will fade with time. But one has the ability to glow stronger with each year... and it is a light that radiates inside each of you. That light might go unseen by most. But when you love someone, just as I love all of you, you notice it in every little moment... the joy in your voice when you sing your favorite song, the courage you have when you face the world, the insatiable love you possess for all you hold dear, and the kindness in your heart. My hope is that one day you see this too. For the secret to eternal beauty... is to see it within yourself, where you come from, and everything you are. With this, my darlings, I have no doubt in my heart... that wherever you go.. and whoever you meet... you will surely find your happily-ever-after.
