Hungry Shark is a series of arcade-style aquatic survival video games originally developed by Future Games to later be acquired and published by Ubisoft London (prior to Hungry Shark Evolution) and Ubisoft (since Hungry Shark Evolution).
The player controls a shark to eat animals and people, while needing to avoid jellyfishes and mines.
Hungry Shark contains the following tropes:
- Irony: The Evil Genius' "secret" lair has signs that show where it's located.
- Shout-Out: The Evil Genius and his lair contain references to the James Bond movies, notably the lair being a volcano, the trapped agent being lowered to a pool of sharks, and the achievement after killing the Evil Genius being named "Dr. Go" as a pun on the villain name "Dr. No". Additionally, the achievement after eating the rival sharks in the lair pool gives you the achievement "No Lasers", a reference to Austin Powers, while the accolade that occasionally appears upon killing the Evil Genius, "How About No?", is a a quote from the movie Austin Powers in Goldmember.
- Threatening Shark: If the name was obvious...
- You Killed My Father: The Shark Man in the trailer of Part 3 has the remark of "He took my papa!".
